Book Synopsis Introduction to Psychology by : Wadsworth Publishing
Download or read book Introduction to Psychology written by Wadsworth Publishing and published by Wadsworth Publishing Company. This book was released on 2000-07-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revitalized, redesigned, and thoroughly updated Ninth Edition of his best-selling text, Dennis Coon presents psychology in a way readers will find fascinating, relevant, and above all, accessible. Built into every chapter are a number of features-originated by Coon-that help readers grasp major concepts, develop a broad understanding of psychology's diversity, and see for themselves how psychology relates to the challenges of everyday life. Dennis Coon's delight in the subject matter of psychology and in the readers' curiosity, insights, imagination, and interest is apparent on every page. In a course where professors are frequently confronted by students who haven't actually read their textbooks, Coon's text offers a solution. Coon effectively presents the latest research, the latest controversies, and the key scientific content in an involving way that gets students "hooked" on psychology and eager to read on. Because readers become actively involved with the material, they develop a basic understanding of psychology that they take with them into their future courses and careers. Coon was the first textbook author to make effective use of cognitive principles to teach psychology by building each chapter around the SQ3R study-reading formula: survey, question, read, recite, and review. In the Ninth Edition, Coon has added a fourth "R"-Relate-to create an SQ4R structure, designed to help students better retain the material by encouraging them to relate it directly to their own lives. A new subtitle-Gateways to Mind and Behavior-highlights the relevance of psychology to everyday life. There are certain takeaway concepts (or "Gateways") within each area of introductory psychology (and infused within each chapter) that, once mastered, will provide students with the ability to unlock a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them, throughout the course and beyond.

Book Synopsis Insolación: Historia amorosa by : Graham Whittaker
Download or read book Insolación: Historia amorosa written by Graham Whittaker and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emilia Pardo Bazán, the most prolific and influential Spanish female writer of the nineteenth century, was a very controversial figure, vilified for her embracement of naturalism and her robust feminist stance. When Insolación was published in 1889 it provoked a litany of negative comments and personal insults. This subtle, psychological novel, drawing on many aspects of its author's personal life, deals with the relationship between Asís, a respectable Galician widow, and Pacheco, a feckless womaniser from Andalucía. Although they scarcely know each other, Asís accepts Pacheco's invitation to visit the San Isidro Fair, where a heady cocktail of sun, alcohol and revelry causes her to behave in an uncharacteristic manner. Insolación explores the conflict between Asís's self-recrimination and concern for the 'qué dirán' and her nascent sexuality. Finally, despite her determination to banish Pacheco from her mind and her intention to go back to Galicia, the couple sleep together and decide to marry. The perceived promiscuity of this work of fiction scandalised the reading public as well as many leading critics. Pereda considered Asís's behaviour reprehensible and Clarín dismissed the novel as a pseudo-erotic boutade. Nowadays, Insolación is recognised as an important novel.

Book Synopsis Chimneys in the Desert by : Fernando Rocchi
Download or read book Chimneys in the Desert written by Fernando Rocchi and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2005-12-23 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers new topics and new perspectives on the economic history of Argentina before the 1930 Depression. It focuses on the evolution of early industrialization in a country primarily associated with cattle-ranching and agriculture, and single-mindedly characterized as a case of a successful export economy. Taking an original approach, the book cross-examines traditional economic issues such as production and finances, and new cultural patterns, such as consumption, the role of women, paternalism, and ideology. The first years of Argentina’s industrialization, from the 1870s to the 1920s, coincided with a time of great innovation, a brisk turn from tradition, and quick modernization. This book shows that industry not only helped Argentina’s economy along, but spearheaded its modernization. It challenges the long-lasting “canonical version” that industry was a victim of a capital market and a state extremely hostile to manufacturing. Access to financing for industrial endeavors was much easier than previously thought, while the state supported industry through tariffs.

Download or read book The Dare written by Harley Laroux and published by . This book was released on 2023-10-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jessica Martin is not a nice girl. As Prom Queen and Captain of the cheer squad, she'd ruled her school mercilessly, looking down her nose at everyone she deemed unworthy. The most unworthy of them all? The "freak," Manson Reed: her favorite victim. But a lot changes after high school. A freak like him never should have ended up at the same Halloween party as her. He never should have been able to beat her at a game of Drink or Dare. He never should have been able to humiliate her in front of everyone. Losing the game means taking the dare: a dare to serve Manson for the entire night as his slave. It's a dare that Jessica's pride - and curiosity - won't allow her to refuse. What ensues is a dark game of pleasure and pain, fear and desire. Is it only a game? Only revenge? Only a dare? Or is it something more? The Dare is an 18+ erotic romance novella and a prequel to the Losers Duet. Reader discretion is strongly advised. This book contains graphic sexual scenes, intense scenes of BDSM, and strong language. A full content note can be found in the front matter of the book.
