Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reissue, first published in 1980, is based on the experiences of the International Extension College in developing distance teaching. The volume begins by reviewing the world problems of educational quality and quantity, and then examines the ways in which print, broadcasts and group study have been used to train teachers, to improve classroom education, to teach by correspondence out of school, and to support rural development. It then considers how that experience can be used, perhaps by creating a network of radio colleges, to supplement and extend existing schools and colleges. Finally, the book includes a descriptive and annotated bibliography of over 100 distance teaching projects in 65 third world countries.

Download or read book Politics of Educational Innovations in Developing Countries written by Nelly P. Stromquist and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-08-29 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the educational arena, new ideas often compete as solutions to recurrent problems, making the concept of "innovations" a widespread discursive term. While expectations are substantial for each innovation, implementation of ideas has shown them to be more modest in practice. This book examines innovations in several developing countries, presenting case studies of technological, curricular, and organizational innovations selected for their magnitude in financial investment, scope, and duration. The case studies explore the social and political contexts that shaped the features of these innovations and what they accomplished over time in terms of teacher cost reduction, status mobility, access to education, and national unity. The experience of countries such as Brazil, Lesotho, the Philippines, and Namibia, and the influence of international agencies such as the World Bank are described and analyzed against theories of social and organizational change. The case studies themselves also serve as subjects for reflection on the prevailing positivist approaches to research and knowledge. The Politics of Educational Innovations should be of considerable interest to students of educational change, wither in the academic world or in the fields of government and international cooperation.

Book Synopsis Developing Countries in the E-learning Era by : Christian Depover
Download or read book Developing Countries in the E-learning Era written by Christian Depover and published by United Nations Education, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2013 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to reducing geographical isolation, distance education, thanks to its more favourable cost structure, allows the monitoring of social and economic remoteness. It may thus have much to offer for developing countries. Digital technologies not only bring remote populations closer, they also permit the development of adapted and diversified pedagogical models, with an economic approach aiming at more than just economies of scale. This book examines some of the ways developing countries - in particular on the African continent, where needs often exceed resources - might benefit from distance education. The authors give particular attention to the development of higher education, its quality, productivity, and cost control.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, the field of distance education (and e-learning) has substantially strengthened and assumed a more international scope. There has been an impressive growth in the conceptual, empirical and experiential foundations of the field. Trends and Issues in Distance Education: International Perspectives (2nd Ed) captures a representative snapshot of the breadth of current global trends and issues in distance education theory, research, and practice. Through 21 chapters (from over 30 international authors), the book documents new developments in distance education scholarship and practice, presenting a diverse set of viewpoints on the trends and issues affecting this increasingly central discipline. The book is for researchers, practitioners, and students. Chapters speak to the many creative ways in which distance education addresses learning and human development needs around the world. They focus on distance education in dissimilar settings that extend beyond the limitations of the dominating paradigms of the highly developed economies. Contributing authors touch upon conceptual as well as practical issues. They critically reflect on both large- and small-scale distance education initiatives, discussing the use of everything from the most advanced technologies (e.g., 3-D computing) to the most rudimentary technologies (e.g., wind-up radios).
