Book Synopsis Disequilibrium Foundations of Equilibrium Economics by : Franklin M. Fisher
Download or read book Disequilibrium Foundations of Equilibrium Economics written by Franklin M. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most common mode of analysis in economic theory is to assume equilibrium. Yet, without a proper theory of how economies behave in disequilibrium, there is no foundation for such a practice. The necessary step in proposing a foundation is the formulation of a theory of stability, and in this 1984 book, Professor Fisher is primarily concerned with this subject, although disequilibrium behavior itself is analyzed. The author first undertakes a review of the existing literature on the stability of general equilibrium. He then proposes a more satisfactory general model in which agents realize their state of disequilibrium and act on arbitrage opportunities. The interrelated topics of the role of money, the nature of quantity constraints, and the optimal behaviour of arbitraging agents are extensively treated.
Book Synopsis Disequilibrium Economics by : Tönu Puu
Download or read book Disequilibrium Economics written by Tönu Puu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-02 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses mathematical models for various applications in economics, with a focus on non-linear dynamics. Based on the author’s over 50 years of active work in the field, the book has been inspired by models from the period between 1920 and 1950. Following a brief introduction to economics for mathematicians and other modelers, it assembles a repository of useful specific functions for global dynamic modeling. Furthermore, twelve “research stubs” – outlined research agendas that have not yet been fully worked on – are suggested for further study and could even be expanded to entire research projects. The book is a valuable resource, particularly for young scientists who are skilled in mathematical and computational techniques and are looking for applications in economics.

Book Synopsis Equilibrium and Disequilibrium in Economic Theory by : G. Schwödiauer

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the result of a conference held at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna. There is still a gap reflected both in fundamental meth odological differences and in the style of analysis between the Walrasian (and Edgeworthian) tradition of general equilibrium theory and the theo retical and policy problems raised in the framework of Keynesian and post-Keynesian macroeconomics. The conference succeeded in bringing together economic theorists working in fields ranging from abstract prob lems of mathematical equilibrium analysis to applied macroeconomic theory, and it is hoped that the present volume will contribute to bridging the above-mentioned hiatus. As organizer of the meeting and editor of its proceedings I want to thank the Institute for Advanced Studies for providing facilities and funds. I am also sincerely grateful to all my colleagues from the Institute for their generous help, in particular to Mrs Monika Herkner without whose assistance and organizational talent the conference would certainly not have been the success it in fact - in the opinion of all participants - turned out to have been. Furthermore, I wish to express my gratitude towards all participants in the meeting and contributors to the volume whose patient support of the whole enterprise proved indispensable. To Mrs Elfriede Auracher I am deeply indebted for her skillful and effective general management of the editorial work and her invaluable assistance in compiling the indexes.

Book Synopsis Models of Disequilibrium and Shortage in Centrally Planned Economies by : C.M. Davis
Download or read book Models of Disequilibrium and Shortage in Centrally Planned Economies written by C.M. Davis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The centrally planned economies (CPEs) of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe have experienced severe imbalances in domestic and external markets over the past several decades. As a result, they have been chronically afflicted by problems such as excess demand, repressed inflation, deficits of commodities, queues, waiting lists, and forced savings. Economists have responded to these phenomena by developing appropriate theoretical and empirical models of CPEs. Of particular note have been the pioneering studies of Richard Portes on disequilibrium econometric models and Janos Kornai on the shortage economy. Each approach has attracted followers who have produced numerous, innovative macro- and microeconomic models of Poland, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, and the USSR. These models have proved to be of considerable value in the analysis of the causes, consequences and remedies of disequilibrium phenomena. Inevitably, the new research has also generated controversies both between and within the schools of shortage and disequilibrium modelling, concerning the fundamental nature of the socialist economy, theoretical concepts and definitions, the specification of models, estimation techniques, interpretation of empirical findings, and policy recommend ations. Furthermore, the research effort has been energetic but incomplete, so many gaps exist in the field.
Book Synopsis How Markets Work by : Israel M. Kirzner
Download or read book How Markets Work written by Israel M. Kirzner and published by IEA Hobart Paper. This book was released on 1997 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last hundred years or so, the neo-classical school has come to dominate microeconomic thinking. Economists concerned with competition have taken refuge in increasingly complex models which emphasize the end-state of competitive equilibrium. This paper presents, in non-technical terms, an 'Austrian' view of how a market economy works. The writer of this book follows in the Austrian tradition as he tries to crystallize the theory of entrepreneurial discovery and of its implications for economic understanding and policy.
Book Synopsis A Disequilibrium Model of Real and Financial Accumulation in an Open Economy by : Giancarlo Gandolfo
Download or read book A Disequilibrium Model of Real and Financial Accumulation in an Open Economy written by Giancarlo Gandolfo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth version of a model that five years ago we set out to build and estimate along the lines of the continuous time approach clarified In chapter 1. Previous versions appeared in journal articles and conference proceedings, where the space is notoriously limited. Therefore we welcome the possibility of publishing a book-length treatment of this fourth version, so that we can describe its theoretical and empirical aspects in some detail. Although we have worked closely together and accept joint responsibility for the whole book, chs. 1 and 2 and appendix I have been written by G. Gandolfo, whilst chs. ] and 4 and appendix II have been written by P.c. Padoan. Different parts of this version of the model have been discussed In various lectures at the European University Institute (Florence) in 1984, In a seminar organized by the Bank of Italy (Sadiba, Perugia, Italy, February 16-18, 1984), in the second Viennese Workshop on Economic Applications of Control Theory (Vienna, May 16-18, 1984), and in the sixth annual Conference of the Society for Economic Dynamics and Control (Nice, France, June 13-15, 1984). In all of these we received helpful comments; similarly helpful were the comments of Clifford R .. Wymer, who, however, is absolved of any responsibility.
Book Synopsis Global Disequilibrium in the World Economy by : Mario Baldassarri
Download or read book Global Disequilibrium in the World Economy written by Mario Baldassarri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US twin deficit, Western European economic integration, Eastern Europe's transition towards a market economy, the debt burden of the Less Developed Countries, the growing and deepening discrimination against the rest of the world by new homogeneous areas such as the North America free trade area, the new Europe, and Japan are the issues at the heart of global disequilibrium in the world economy. This book brings together leading economists to analyse these issues and further the debate on the need for sound economic policies to avoid a crash on a global scale.
Book Synopsis Open Economy Macrodynamics by : Toichiro Asada
Download or read book Open Economy Macrodynamics written by Toichiro Asada and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-10 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first part of this book, we treat interacting and small open economies. We do this from an historical perspective, starting from the Classical model of the gold standard and the specie-flow mechanism and aim to show there that the Dornbusch IS-LM-PC approach, with or without rational expectations, can still be considered as a (if not the) core contribution to contemporaneous open economy macrodynamics, also on the level of structural macroeconometric model building. In the second part we then extend this analysis to the incorporation of more disequilibrium on the real markets, prominent further feedback channels of the macrodynamic literature and integrated macromodel building. We start from the closed economy, consider large open economies in a fixed exchange rate system, small open economies subject to high capital mobility, and finally two large interacting economies like the USA and Euroland. Our macrofounded approach extends and integrates non-market clearing traditions to macrodynamics and can be usefully compared with the New Keynesian approaches which are generally rigorously microfounded, but often much more limited in scope in capturing full market and agent interactions.

Book Synopsis Towards Operational Disequilibrium Macro Economics by : J.C. Siebrand
Download or read book Towards Operational Disequilibrium Macro Economics written by J.C. Siebrand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most re cent contributions to disequilibrium theory have a high level of abstraction. Empirical studies explicitly based on disequilibrium are still relatively scarce. However, empirical macro economics anticipated the theoretical development, and amalgamated classical and Keynesian elements often without a clear-cut formal base. Now a theoretical integration of neo-classical and neo-Keynesian economics seems under way. There is a renewed interest in the micro-economic foundations of macroeconomics with a special focus on the behaviour of economic agents operating in non-clearing markets. In some instances these theoretical developments offer an ex post justification for empirical macro-economic practices. Generally however, they call for new ways of empirical macro-economic model building. This study operates on the border line between empirical macro economics and theoretical disequilibrium macro-economic theory. Our interest in macro-economic disequilibrium originates from the empirical side. Foreign trade relations for several countries revealed significant pressure of demand effects. Hence, the spillover of excess demand in domestic markets to foreign markets seemed a rather general phenomenon. This fact could be explained by a theory that states that actual demand for products from domestic ftrms will gene rally and systematically differ from the ex ante demand as suggested by equilibrium analysis. This latter demand concept comes close to Clower's 'notional demand' and Patinkin's 'potential demand'.
Book Synopsis Disequilibrium Sports Economics by : Wladimir Andreff
Download or read book Disequilibrium Sports Economics written by Wladimir Andreff and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2015-09-25 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, sports economics has been set within the framework of equilibrium economics, in particular when modelling team sport leagues. Based on a conviction that this does not reflect real life, this book addresses a gap in the literature and opens up a new research area by applying concepts drawn from disequilibrium economics. It is divided into two parts, the first of which focuses on economic disequilibrium in sports markets and competitive imbalance in sporting contests. The second part concentrates on soft budget constraints and their consequences for club governance and management.
