Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Monograph of Diseases of the Nose and Throat It has been the author's aim in the succeeding pages to present in concise form a Monograph on the Diseases of the Nose and Throat especially adapted to the needs of the student and the general practitioner. The book is the outcome of an experience in the general practice of medicine which was not small, supplemented by several years of exclusively nose, throat and ear work. During the last five years I have been in almost daily contact with students, in the capacity of teacher, and have especially felt the need of a condensed work on the subject dealt with. Few general practitioners have either the time or the inclination to wade through a volume on rhinology and laryngology which deals with exhaustive details, though a working knowledge of the diseases of the nose and throat is absolutely essential to the successful physician. I have, therefore, kept constantly in mind these two classes of readers. Only enough anatomy and physiology is given to enable the reader to comprehend the text. This book was released on 2016-06-26 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Diseases of the Nose and Throat The author desires again to thank the many friends whose kindly interest in this work has brought the opportunity of another revision. Each article has been carefully considered, and changes made to conform to the advances in diagnosis and treatment. Chapter VII., on Diseases of the Accessory Sinus, has been entirely rewritten and many new cuts added, which, it is hoped, will elucidate this interesting part of the subject. It may not be amiss to point out that the purpose of this work, in its successive editions, has been to provide a compact manual answering the needs of both students and practitioners. Special attention has, therefore, been devoted to the more practical sections - namely, those on Examinations, Diagnosis, and Treatment. It is of the first. Importance that the appearances found on examina tion of a patient Should be thoroughly appreciated, and that microscopical and bacteriological investigations should be made where the nature of the morbid process is in doubt. Sufficient guidance in these directions will be found in the Work. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Diseases of the Throat, Nose and Ear (Classic Reprint) written by Dan McKenzie and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Throat, Nose and Ear This book has been written from the practical point of view, and for that reason many interesting scientific problems and issues have necessarily been omitted. On the other hand, considerable attention has been devoted to operative surgery, but here, also, limitation of space has rendered it impossible to describe the many modifications and variations of the operations. In addition to the acknowledgments for the use of illustrations borrowed from other sources, I desire to offer my sincere thanks to Dr. Robert Knox, Dr. Andrew Wylie, Dr. William Hill, Dr. Irwin Moore, Mr. W. M. Mollison, and Mr. J. Gay French for kindly granting me the loan of valuable blocks. The original illustrations are for the most part the production of Mr. S. A. Sewell, who has succeeded admirably in giving pictorial expression to my suggestions and ideas. For the photographs, I am indebted to the careful skill of Mr. J. Peach, of the Central London Throat and Ear Hospital. The original of the coloured frontispiece is one of the drawings executed for Sir Morell Mackenzie by Lennox Browne, for long in the possession of Mr. E. Mayer, of Messrs. Mayer and Phelps, and recently presented by him, together with manuscripts and instruments belonging to Mackenzie, to the Royal Society of Medicine. As far as I am aware, the drawing has never before been reproduced. I am deeply conscious of the debt I owe to Mr. Mayer for his generous permission to use this historical picture, and I am confident that all readers who benefit by its clear and graphic representation of the laryngeal features in recurrent laryngeal paralysis, will share my feeling of gratitude. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Nose, Throat and Ear In response to many requests a section on Diseases of the Ear has been added. The senior author considers himself fortunate in having enlisted the cooperation of Dr. Bryant, to whom he wishes to accord all credit and responsibility for the work done and views expressed in that department. Finally the authors desire to make joint acknowledgment to their colleagues for helpful suggestions and to their publishers for the care with which their ideas have been executed. We owe especial thanks to Dr. Freer, of Chicago, and Dr. Jackson, of Pittsburgh, as well as to various surgical instrument makers for courtesy shown in permission to make use of certain illustrations. Many of those in the pages devoted to the ear are original and are now for the first time published. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Diseases of the Throat and NoseI have departed somewhat from the original plan of the book, in treating of some subjects at considerable length, as laryngeal phthisis, bilateral paralysis of the abductors, etc. I have done this designedly, with the object of introducing per sonal views and methods of treatment which are not given in other works, and which I regard as worthy of consideration.I am under obligation to Dr. J. Solis Cohen, of Phila delphia, for his kindly permission to make use of the excel lent woodcuts which I have borrowed from his work 011 The Throat. I am also under obligation to Dr. Morrell Mackenzie, for the woodcuts which I have appropriated, without permis sion, from his recent work on The Throat and Nose. My ex cuse for this is, that his work appeared in this country after my manuscript had been sent to the printer, and the cuts have been inserted while the book has been going through the press my time was too limited to await a response, and it would not have been a very gracious act to seek his permission to use them after I had already appropriated them.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
