Book Synopsis Reaction Rate Theory by : Royal Society of Chemistry
Download or read book Reaction Rate Theory written by Royal Society of Chemistry and published by Faraday Discussions. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reaction rate theory is essential for understanding and simulating chemical reactions. Progress in this field has been rapid recently, and has included the development of completely new techniques for including quantum effects in chemical reactions (including coupled proton-electron transfer), the application of rate theory to enzymes, and the development of efficient simulation techniques for treating very large systems. Many of these exciting recent developments are the result of ideas transferring between branches of the subject that used to be considered distant from each other: for example, classical simulation techniques are now used in quantum rate calculations. This volume brings together the research of leading scientists from various fields that use reaction rate theory, including theoretical and physical chemistry, molecular biology, solid state physics and bio-physics.
Book Synopsis Ultrafast Photoinduced Energy and Charge Transfer by : Royal Society of Chemistry, The
Download or read book Ultrafast Photoinduced Energy and Charge Transfer written by Royal Society of Chemistry, The and published by Faraday Discussions. This book was released on 2019-07-24 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrafast energy and charge transfer events dictate the functionality of a broad range of molecular, aggregate and nanomaterial systems. Impressive recent advances in the commercialisation of ultrafast laser technology and on many theoretical fronts, plus the societal emphasis on solar energy, have led to a surge of research in this community, encompassing spectroscopists, biophysicists, computational and theoretical chemists, physicists and materials scientists. Ambitions have evolved beyond studies of simple molecular systems, and increasingly focus on the underlying molecular mechanisms prevailing in nanomaterial, native protein and hybrid systems. Many working in this area share a common aim, to address and answer one of the most pressing issues currently facing the scientific community: the photophysics underlying efficient light capture, energy transport and efficient charge carrier generation, water splitting, photo-protection and photo-damage, proton transfer and/or molecular re-organisation. This volume discusses the following themes: Energy and charge-transfer in natural photosynthesis Photovoltaics and bio-inspired light harvesting Photo-induced electron transfer Photo-protection/photo-damage in natural systems

Book Synopsis Exploratory Experiments by : Friedrich Steinle
Download or read book Exploratory Experiments written by Friedrich Steinle and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2016-06-12 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nineteenth century was a formative period for electromagnetism and electrodynamics. Hans Christian Ørsted’s groundbreaking discovery of the interaction between electricity and magnetism in 1820 inspired a wave of research, led to the science of electrodynamics, and resulted in the development of electromagnetic theory. Remarkably, in response, André-Marie Ampère and Michael Faraday developed two incompatible, competing theories. Although their approaches and conceptual frameworks were fundamentally different, together their work launched a technological revolution—laying the foundation for our modern scientific understanding of electricity—and one of the most important debates in physics, between electrodynamic action-at-a-distance and field theories. In this foundational study, Friedrich Steinle compares the influential work of Ampère and Faraday to reveal the prominent role of exploratory experimentation in the development of science. While this exploratory phase was responsible for decisive conceptual innovations, it has yet to be examined in such great detail. Focusing on Ampère’s and Faraday’s research practices, reconstructed from previously unknown archival materials, including laboratory notes, diaries, letters, and interactions with instrument makers, this book considers both the historic and epistemological basis of exploratory experimentation and its importance to scientific development.
