Book excerpt: The Discipleship Quad Process is four people of the same gender who meet weekly for about a year to reflect on Scripture and Church teaching so as to encourage each other to be a more faithful disciple of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church through tangible actions and, when finished, continue the discipleship chain by starting the process again with three new people. It is more than a book, more than a Bible study, and more than a catechesis on Catholic doctrine. At its heart, it is about brothers helping brothers and sisters helping sisters become more joyful disciples of Jesus Christ. Through this, your faith will grow stronger. Your prayer will grow deeper. Your witness to others will be more fruitful. The friendships you make will be life changing and long lasting. Broken into four parts, the Discipleship Quad Guidebook is a 44-week reflection on the Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church. It is driven primarily by Scripture. Each week provides a substantial reading from the Bible with smaller readings spread throughout the week. Written reflections compliment the Scriptures and include quotes from The Catechism of the Catholic Church, Church documents, saints, and other inspirational writers. This is brought to you from Franciscan University of Steubenville as part of its mission, "to educate, to evangelize, and to send forth joyful disciples." Numerous years of research and testing by a collaborative team went into the development of the Discipleship Quad Process. The Guidebook was written and designed by Dr. Bob Rice, Professor of Catechetics at Franciscan University of Steubenville. Kristina Scheerbaum, who served at the Steubenville Conferences for over a decade, was the Chief Researcher and Editor. Mark Joseph, Vice President for Outreach and Evangelization at Franciscan University, oversaw the project. The Discipleship Quad Process is a means through which the Holy Spirit will help fulfill the mission Jesus gave to St. Francis to "Rebuild my church"... one disciple at a time. This Guidebook is part one of four. More information about the Discipleship Quad Process can be found at https://steubenvilleconferences.com/discipleship-quads where you can download this FOR FREE! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why Another Discipleship Book?Let's face it. There are a ton of discipleship books out there on the market. Why in all of Christendom do we need another discipleship book? Let me give you a few reasons why this discipleship book is important and how it is different from any other discipleship book you will get. 1.Discipleship Is Important. - When a person reads the New Testament, discipleship is written all over it. Whether Jesus is leading his disciples, Paul is making disciples, or the church is being called to make disciples, discipleship is there. Discipleship in the New Testament is done in a small group or one-on-one, with one believer leading another to know and follow God. This book is designed to do that. This is not another Bible study or life guide. This is not a preaching series to work through. This book is a guide for one believer to lead another in order to help them know and follow God through studying the text of the Bible.2.God's Word Is Important. - When you look at all the different materials labeled as discipleship you can be overrun with options. Some formats are DVD driven, some are book driven, others are conversation-driven. But the real basis of teaching people to know and follow God is God's Word. Therefore, this resource is Text-Driven Discipleship. The guide is designed to help a disciple-maker lead their disciple to discuss and understand God's Word and to help the disciple begin to study God's Word for themselves.3.God's People Are Important. - When Christians look at the church, they should see a group of people committed to making disciples. Making disciples is the Commission of every Christian and the marching orders of the Church (Matt 28:18-20). Thus, this resource was written in order to help Christians do what they were called to do. This guide is to help God's people teach the Bible to others.

It not only brings to life the famous moments of the Gospels, it also goes where they are silent: What miracles occurred when Simon Peter and the other disciples were sent off two by two? How did he know that Jesus was the Christ? And what was he thinking when he denied him? Led to experience things beyond his wildest imagination, Simon Peter felt torn between being a fisherman and a "fisher of men," caught between the Savior and the sea.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How we experience space by listening: the concepts of aural architecture, with examples ranging from Gothic cathedrals to surround sound home theater. We experience spaces not only by seeing but also by listening. We can navigate a room in the dark, and "hear" the emptiness of a house without furniture. Our experience of music in a concert hall depends on whether we sit in the front row or under the balcony. The unique acoustics of religious spaces acquire symbolic meaning. Social relationships are strongly influenced by the way that space changes sound. In Spaces Speak, Are You Listening?, Barry Blesser and Linda-Ruth Salter examine auditory spatial awareness: experiencing space by attentive listening. Every environment has an aural architecture. The audible attributes of physical space have always contributed to the fabric of human culture, as demonstrated by prehistoric multimedia cave paintings, classical Greek open-air theaters, Gothic cathedrals, acoustic geography of French villages, modern music reproduction, and virtual spaces in home theaters. Auditory spatial awareness is a prism that reveals a culture's attitudes toward hearing and space. Some listeners can learn to "see" objects with their ears, but even without training, we can all hear spatial geometry such as an open door or low ceiling. Integrating contributions from a wide range of disciplines—including architecture, music, acoustics, evolution, anthropology, cognitive psychology, audio engineering, and many others—Spaces Speak, Are You Listening? establishes the concepts and language of aural architecture. These concepts provide an interdisciplinary guide for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of how space enhances our well-being. Aural architecture is not the exclusive domain of specialists. Accidentally or intentionally, we all function as aural architects.

Too often discipleship of the mind is overlooked if not ignored altogether. In this lively and enlightening book, two authors who are experienced in college youth ministry show students how to be faithful in their studies, approaching education as their vocation. This revised edition of the well-received The Outrageous Idea of Academic Faithfulness includes updates throughout, two new substantive appendixes, personal stories from students, a new preface, and a fresh interior design. Chapters conclude with thought-provoking discussion questions.

Book excerpt: DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible. The first study in the program is DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a thirty-four week overview of the entire Bible. Commitment and Time Involved Three and one-half to four hours of independent study each week (40 minutes daily for leaders and 30 minutes daily for group members) in preparation for weekly group meetings. Attendance at weekly 2.5 hour meetings. Study Manual Each member of the group needs a study manual and a Bible. The Bible is the text for the study and the study manual will guide group members in their study and preparation for the weekly group session. The study manual also includes suggestions for individual and study-related activities. Space is provided for taking notes while reading Scripture, for recording thoughts and questions arising out of daily study, and for notes during the weekly group session. The titles of the sessions along with theme words and theme verses, and major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of the participants. The principal Scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. We recommend the New Interpreters Study Bible More Questions? Visit www.cokesbury.com/disciple.
