Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus invites people to a life pulsing with love, purpose, and the promise of unending joy. He calls this narrow-road journey discipleship and says, "Follow me." The first generations to believe in Jesus knew that following him--and his ways--was an essential part of their faith. They self-identified as disciples. Today many people are disconnected from this journey--or unsure of where to start. Disciple Gate is a thoughtful, practical, and down-to-earth guide to discipleship that can help change that. Through Scripture, story, and personal testimony, readers explore five key moments in this adventure with Jesus. Stepping through seasons of beauty and struggle, they learn to develop a resilient and reproductive faith. They move into life with Jesus and friendship with God. "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." --Jesus (Matt 7:13-14)
Book Synopsis Disciple's Diary by : Cinthia W. Pratt
Download or read book Disciple's Diary written by Cinthia W. Pratt and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disciples Diary is the second book in Cindees series written for women journeying to become all that God has created them to be. This edition is a collection of poems, devotional teachings, and reflective narrative, intended to encourage and to provoke thought in those discipled daughters; who may discover that they are now traveling across terrain much like the territories that the heroine in the story crosses. Her Valley of Shadows may be found sitting at the bedside of a terminally ill loved one. Her Wide Wilderness of Want may appear in the form of a bankruptcy or through the loss of a business or a home. Divorce-court proceedings may compose the walls of the dark pit of loneliness, in which the disciple daughter now sits trapped as she watches the fogs of confusion and doubt begin to roll in overhead. A rebellious child, an unfaithful spouse, and seemingly countless unanswered prayers may all contribute to the tangled briers and twisted branches of the wilderness thicket that blocks the suns warmth and light from the path on which the present-day sojourner now travels. Such is the terrain that might be traced on the map of a modern-day disciple daughter. Fearfully Female and Wonderfully Woman: Becoming All That God Created is the first book in Cindee's series and is designed to be a navigational guide for Christian women of all ages and backgrounds. While Disciples Diary is designed as a devotional collection; this book is more informational in format. Topics addressed in this study include body image, self -esteem, developing healthy friendships, growing old in a youth oriented culture, developing our spiritual gifts, and finding our place of ministry. Fearfully Female and Wonderfully Woman would be a valuable reference tool as well as a guide for individual or small group study. http://bookstore.westbowpress.com/Products/SKU-000466986/Fearfully-Female-and-Wonderfully-Woman.aspx

Book Synopsis Discipleship in the Postmodern Age by : Dan Kohn
Download or read book Discipleship in the Postmodern Age written by Dan Kohn and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-02-20 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a “missing link” in most churches today. There is a significant gap between membership and active involvement in ministry. What is missing is what Jesus modeled in His earthly ministry—disciple making. In the absence of this model from Christ, churches struggle to maintain membership and ministry. Underequipped members lack the enthusiasm and insight to truly be a part of active ministry. The reverse is also true—when members are trained as active disciples, the ministry potential of the church can follow that of the early Christian church outlined in the book of Acts. Yes, the model works, as the Holy Spirit works in the transformed lives of today’s disciples as He has throughout the history of the church. This book will give you practical insights for developing a discipleship process in your church.

It is a book to read and recommend to any servant of God cognizant of the glorious mission that the Lord Jesus Christ has entrusted to His church: "Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations …" Finally, the making of disciples is all about the work of transforming a sinner into a repentant sinner, a repentant sinner into a convert, a convert into a young disciple, leading the young disciple to spiritual maturity and, finally, helping him to become a disciple-maker. Book Synopsis The Bodhidharma Anthology by : Jeffrey L. Broughton
Download or read book The Bodhidharma Anthology written by Jeffrey L. Broughton and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early part of this century, the discovery of a walled-up cave in northwest China led to the retrieval of a lost early Ch'an (Zen) literature of the T'ang dynasty (618-907). One of the recovered Zen texts was a seven-piece collection, the Bodhidharma Anthology. Of the numerous texts attributed to Bodhidharma, this anthology is the only one generally believed to contain authentic Bodhidharma material. Jeffrey L. Broughton provides a reliable annotated translation of the Bodhidharma Anthology along with a detailed study of its nature, content, and background. His work is especially important for its rendering of the three Records, which contain some of the earliest Zen dialogues and constitute the real beginnings of Zen literature. The vivid dialogues and sayings of Master Yuan, a long-forgotten member of the Bodhidharma circle, are the hallmark of the Records. Master Yuan consistently criticizes reliance on the Dharma, on teachers, on meditative practice, and on scripture, all of which lead to self-deception and confusion, he says. According to Master Yuan, if one has spirit and does not seek anything, including the teachings of Buddhism, then one will attain the quietude of liberation. The boldness in Yuan's utterances prefigures much of the full-blown Zen tradition we recognize today. Broughton utilizes a Tibetan translation of the Bodhidharma Anthology as an informative gloss on the Chinese original. Placing the anthology within the context of the Tun-huang Zen manuscripts as a whole, he proposes a new approach to the study of Zen, one that concentrates on literary history, a genealogy of texts rather than the usual genealogy of masters.
