Book excerpt: This book presents the ability to bring together a single work of scientific articles from the best minds of the Institute of Environment and Energy of the University of São Paulo to analyze the legal, regulatory, and technical architecture of the natural gas exploration chain in Brazil. The theme is current and relevant, considering that global conflicts are relevant to the energy issue and access to means of energy generation. Also, with the change of the Brazilian regulatory framework for the gas market, to promote its deconcentration and facilitate the entry of new entrants, knowledge of the current rules is of paramount importance for scholars on the subject. The deconcentration of the market will result in increased competitiveness and investment by the private sector in the gas sector, resulting in a reduction in fuel prices. Hope the readers enjoy it!

This book was released on with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The brazilian CFIA model as a mechanism for enhancing protection and respect for socio-economic rights by : Marina Martins Martes
Download or read book The brazilian CFIA model as a mechanism for enhancing protection and respect for socio-economic rights written by Marina Martins Martes and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2023-09-28 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research evaluates whether the new model of investment agreement developed by Brazil (CFIA) is a mechanism for enhancing protection and respect for social and economic rights. The research starts by exploring the origins of investment treaties, their development and main characteristics. It examines why investment treaties and socio-economic rights are related, by mapping cases in which investment treaties have already impaired the protection of such rights. The research then analyzes how these two issues shall be jointly handled. It considers international organizations? initiatives to regulate business and human rights and investment treaties? frameworks that foster sustainable development, as well as new investment agreements? models developed by different countries, and then suggests criteria for evaluating whether an investment treaty is adequate from the socio-economic rights standpoint. Finally, this research investigates the CFIA model, brings a brief historical overview, evaluates CFIAs? wording, and examines how some CFIAs? institutional mechanisms consider corporate social responsibility issues. In conclusion, this research asserts that the CFIA model can be a mechanism for enhancing protection and respect for socio-economic rights, but some concerns (particularly related to safeguarding States? regulatory space and providing for stronger obligations to investors and States to protect human rights) need to be addressed.

Book Synopsis Global Waste Management by : Kamila Pope
Download or read book Global Waste Management written by Kamila Pope and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER: 2020 International Solid Waste Association Publication Award Among other factors, rapid global population growth, our development model and patterns of production and consumption have increased waste generation worldwide to unsustainable rates. This rise has led to crises in many countries where waste management practices are no longer sound. Global Waste Management outlines the emerging global waste crisis considering the perspectives of developed and developing countries around the world and the international relationships between them. This book provides an ecological viewpoint as well as studying these problems from a legal and justice standpoint. Global Waste Management contextualises the problems faced when dealing with waste including the causes and origins. Focus is given to cross border waste transfer, as an ongoing and controversial practice, making waste management a global matter. This book scrutinizes existing international, European and Brazilian regulation on waste to highlight the complexity of the subject and the weaknesses of the law. Using a critical and socio-ecological approach, the book proposes an original model of governance to support a new system of global waste management that takes into account ecological sustainability and social justice to overcome the waste crisis. To create these models, a theoretical framework on socio-ecological justice is developed and combined with different discourses and theories described throughout the book. This is the essential guide to understanding the global waste crisis and the future of waste management.

This book was released on 2020-03-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present, in depth, updated information on soil and microbial processes involved in mixed plantations of Eucalyptus and N2-fixing species, especially Acacia mangium, focusing on Forestry, Soils, Biology, Ecosystem Services and Sustainability. The potential of substituting chemical N fertilizer by a consortium of leguminous species that fix atmospheric nitrogen is an interesting solution for a more sustainable, economically and environmentally sound forest system. Among the main topics, we present reference topics on soil microbiology, as biological nitrogen fixation, the role of mycorrhiza in mixed plantations, bio-indicators of soil quality, and plantgrowth promoting bacteria with biotechnological potential. Here we discuss Ecosystem services and ecological benefits of these systems, the invasive potential of A.mangium, as well as the regulations and perspectives of land use policies for mixed forests and their role in the sustainability of the system.
