Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electric and Magnetic Measurements Errors of various kinds arise in making measurements, the most important of which are the following: Errors of observation, due to lack of ability on the part of the observer to make accurate readings. Simple mistakes, which grow less troublesome as the observer gains in training and experience. Instrumental errors, due to incorrect calibration of scales or to faulty adjustment of comparison standards. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electric and Magnetic Measurements and Measuring Instruments The following volume has been written for the use of those who have to do with electrical and magnetic measurements in one form or another, and as these must be made in practically all branches of the profession, from the simple testing out of lines and resistances to the most elaborate determination of designs, it is hoped that its Sphere of usefulness will be quite large. The subjects have, throughout, been approached with a View toward their use by users, not manufacturers, of measuring apparatus, that is to say the book is in no sense intended as a treatise on the design and construction of instruments, the circle interested being decidedly limited. Descriptions are, however, given of apparatus as well as of methods of test, because knowl edge of the manner in which a principle is utilized in concrete instruments often suggests, to one having a determination to make but is at the same time without the particular form of appliance ordinarily employed for that purpose, means of adap ing thereto some other device which is at hand. Further, in illustrating examples of instruments for different kinds of work, there has been in mind the idea that these will enable engineers to decide, with the aid of their general engineering knowledge, which are the best suited to their particular requirements. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fees for Electric, Magnetic, and Photometric Testing Measurements of power' in watts are of course also in terms of resistance standards and standard cells. Alternating current, voltage, and power are measured by instruments calibrated by direct-current instruments, and hence are in terms of the same standards. Alternating - current instruments are used in turn to calibrate the standards used in radio measurements. T here are no international standards in magnetism, ail measure ments being in terms of electric current and electromotive force. Book Synopsis Characterization and Measurement of Magnetic Materials by : Fausto Fiorillo
Download or read book Characterization and Measurement of Magnetic Materials written by Fausto Fiorillo and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2004-12-07 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Correct and efficient measurements are vital to the understanding of materials properties and applications. This is especially so for magnetic materials for which in last twenty years, our understanding and use have changed dramatically. New or improved materials have been created and have reached the market. The Soft amorphous alloys, the Fe-based rare-earth magnets and the giant magnetorestrictive and magnetoresistive materials have all posed challenges to measurement. At the same time new digital measurement techniques have forced a change in laboratory and commercial measuring setups. A revision of measuring standards also occurred in the 1990s with the result that there is now a lack of up-to-date works on the measurement of magnetic materials. The basic objective of this work is to provide a comprehensive overview of the properties of the hard and soft magnetic materials relevant to applications and of thoroughly discussing the modern methodologies for employed in the measurement of these properties. The balance of these topics results in a complete text on the topic, which will be invaluable to researchers, students and practitioners in industry. It will be of significant interest not only to scientists working in the fields of power engineering and materials science but also to specialists in measurement who be able to easily find all the information they need. Comprehensive overview of the properties of the hard and soft magnetic materials Provides applications and discusses thoroughly the modern methodologies for employed in the measurement of these properties Provides the latest up-to-date works on the measurement of magnetic materials
