Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deep exploration of the direct experience of non-dual reality and its lessons for spiritual growth and development • Examines the direct perception of non-dual reality and shows its implications for navigating ordinary reality in an open, compassionate, and ever-maturing way • Shares the author’s most significant awakening experiences and explores their psycho-emotional and psychospiritual foundations • Offers practical teachings for spiritual understanding, emotional development, and the cultivation of compassion Exploring the direct perception of non-dual, “non-ordinary” reality, Paul Weiss shares guidance for navigating ordinary reality in an open, compassionate, and ever-maturing way. He affirms our shared human potential for the “direct experience” of reality--unmediated by our more relativistic mental faculties--and reveals this experience as an essential dimension of our conscious capacity for growth. He shares his most significant awakening experiences and the circumstances leading up to them, exploring the personal and transpersonal dimensions of the experiences and their psycho-emotional and psycho- spiritual foundations. He points to such experiences as part of our ongoing integration as human beings and the essential path of practice that supports our availability to them. Interweaving perspectives from psychology and neuroscience with important lessons from spiritual traditions around the world, Weiss explores how to live a life of integrity, reciprocity, and openness to reality, offering practical teachings for spiritual understanding, emotional development, and the cultivation of compassion, viewed by ancient Buddhist sages as the true meaning of existence. He addresses such human qualities as vulnerability, empathy, reciprocity, openness, and intimacy and shows how they express and participate in deeper conscious truths. The author also examines practical wisdom teachings within both Buddhist and Christian paths to realization. Combining engaged mysticism with transcendent humanism, along with thought- provoking poetry, Weiss offers a living vision of a non-dual way of experiencing the world, a path that supports our functional, emotional, and spiritual maturity.

All of a sudden, you may be faced with challenges such as anxiety, depression, despair, the Dark Night of the Soul, and a multitude of other energetic and spiritual imbalances. Living in a Quantum Reality helps to identify the common side effects of wholeness consciousness and offers a variety of exercises, meditations, and healing methods to cope with having a higher consciousness in a world that is still struggling to catch up. Living in a Quantum Reality helps you understand your “impossible” transpersonal experiences by integrating quantum physics into psychology and offering a user-friendly description of the many layers or spheres of energy and consciousness. This vision of the quantum self synthesizes spiritual thought with an array of scientific disciplines, and is supported by the author’s own direct experiences, as well as her clients’ experiences with larger reality. This book is a step toward advancing the field of psychology, and especially the practice of psychotherapy, to catch up with the latest, more quantum, worldview, one that is more comprehensive for understanding the reaches of our human consciousness and psycho-spiritual experiences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past twenty-five years A. H. Almaas—widely recognized as a leader in integrating spirituality and psychology—has been developing and teaching the Diamond Approach, a spiritual path that integrates the insights of Sufism, Buddhism, Gurdjieff, and other wisdom traditions with modern psychology. In this new work, Almaas uses the metaphor of a "spacecruiser" to describe a method of exploring the immediacy of personal experience—a way of investigating our moment-by-moment feelings, thoughts, reactions, and behaviors through a process of open-ended questioning. The method is called the practice of inquiry, and Spacecruiser Inquiry reveals what it means to engage with this practice as a spiritual path: its principles, challenges, and rewards. The author explores basic elements of inquiry, including the open-ended attitude, the focus on direct knowledge, the experience of not-knowing, and the process of questioning. He describes the experience of "Diamond Guidance"—the inner wisdom that emerges from our true nature—and how it can be realized and applied. In this process Almaas looks at many of the essential forms of Diamond Guidance, including knowing, clarity, truth, love, intelligence, compassion, curiosity, courage, and determination. Also included are exercises and questions and answers from the original talks by Almaas on which the book is based.

Book excerpt: For thousands of years, no book has been more shrouded in mystery than the Zohar, yet no book offers us greater wisdom. The central text of Kabbalah, the Zohar is a commentary on the Bible’s narratives, laws, and genealogies and a map of the spiritual landscape. In The Essential Zohar, the eminent kabbalist Rav P. S. Berg decodes its teachings on evil, redemption, human relationships, wealth and poverty, and other fundamental concerns from a practical, contemporary perspective. The Zohar and Kabbalah have traditionally been known as the world’s most esoteric sources of spiritual knowledge, but Rav Berg has dedicated his life to making this concentrated distillation of infinite wisdom available to people of all faiths so that we may use its principles to live each day in harmony with the divine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AparokshAnubhuti by Shankara is an important and popular work on non-duality in which he accepts contemplation or reflection as a primary means of knowledge. In fact, Shankara declares that an advanced seeker, having a pure mind, can experience reality with this contemplative thought alone. For other seekers, he outlines a unique form of Raja (king of) Yoga, which consists of fifteen parts in quite contrast to eight-fold Yoga of Patanjali. According to him, a regular practice of this Yoga gives rise to an all-encompassing awareness of reality that results in enlightenment.Shankara discusses the nature of our ignorance and gives arguments to show that body is different from self. He, then, based on scriptural statements and reasoning, shows that fundamental reality is all-pervasive and this external world is unreal as a dream. Then, he cites several examples to highlight the inaccurate observation of our sense organs. Thereby he brings in the argument that we cannot trust our eyes, ears, etc. unconditionally. To rectify our observation, he suggests to constantly focus on the cause and discard the effect in everything, just as a goldsmith focuses on the gold and ignores the forms and names of the various golden ornaments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we align our consciousness with God's action in us, we place ourselves in reach of daily miracles. In Beginning Your Spiritual Journey, traditional spirituality from "the science of the saints" joins with advances in the understanding of consciousness from New/Old Age religion and modern psychology. Psychologist, former Catholic priest, and student of religions John Jensen explains how to approach the presence of God and change one's life to align with God's encompassing activity. He asks readers to understand why they want to pursue a spiritual life, and then to engage consciously in a learning process about the nature of God and Soul. Grounding the process in direct experience offers a way to assess progress as it crosses slowly into the intangible. The book addresses from many angles the common difficulty of discerning what's real and true, and the importance of finding a personal spiritual guide to work with on the inner planes as well as outwardly. It explains the critical role of spiritual exercises and the essential daily discipline of withdrawing consciousness away from all forms of negativity-moral, spiritual, emotional, and behavioral--and redirecting it toward God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sri Ramakrishna is widely known as a nineteenth-century Indian mystic who affirmed the harmony of all religions on the basis of his richly varied spiritual experiences and eclectic religious practices, both Hindu and non-Hindu. In Infinite Paths to Infinite Reality, Ayon Maharaj argues that Sri Ramakrishna was also a sophisticated philosopher of great contemporary relevance. Through a careful study of Sri Ramakrishna's recorded oral teachings in the original Bengali, Maharaj reconstructs his philosophical positions and analyzes them from a cross-cultural perspective. Sri Ramakrishna's spiritual journey culminated in the exalted state of "vijñana," his term for the "intimate knowledge" of God as the Infinite Reality that is both personal and impersonal, with and without form, immanent in the universe and beyond it. This expansive spiritual standpoint of vijñana, Maharaj contends, opens up a new paradigm for addressing central issues in cross-cultural philosophy of religion, including divine infinitude, religious pluralism, mystical experience, and the problem of evil. Sri Ramakrishna's vijñana-based religious pluralism--when grasped in all its subtlety--proves to have major philosophical advantages over dominant Western models. Moreover, his mystical testimony and teachings not only cut across long-standing debates about the nature of mystical experience but also bolster recent defenses of its epistemic value. Maharaj further demonstrates that Sri Ramakrishna's unique response to the problem of evil resonates strongly with Western "soul-making" theodicies and contemporary theories of skeptical theism. A pioneering interdisciplinary study of one of India's most important philosopher-mystics, Maharaj's book is essential reading for scholars and students in philosophy of religion, theology, religious studies, and Hindu studies.

Book excerpt: A fascinating examination of how we are both played by language and made by language: the science underlying the bugs and features of humankind’s greatest invention. Language is said to be humankind’s greatest accomplishment. But what is language actually good for? It performs poorly at representing reality. It is a constant source of distraction, misdirection, and overshadowing. In fact, N. J. Enfield notes, language is far better at persuasion than it is at objectively capturing the facts of experience. Language cannot create or change physical reality, but it can do the next best thing: reframe and invert our view of the world. In Language vs. Reality, Enfield explains why language is bad for scientists (who are bound by reality) but good for lawyers (who want to win their cases), why it can be dangerous when it falls into the wrong hands, and why it deserves our deepest respect. Enfield offers a lively exploration of the science underlying the bugs and features of language. He examines the tenuous relationship between language and reality; details the array of effects language has on our memory, attention, and reasoning; and describes how these varied effects power narratives and storytelling as well as political spin and conspiracy theories. Why should we care what language is good for? Enfield, who has spent twenty years at the cutting edge of language research, argues that understanding how language works is crucial to tackling our most pressing challenges, including human cognitive bias, media spin, the “post-truth” problem, persuasion, the role of words in our thinking, and much more.
