Book Synopsis Catalytic Ammonia Synthesis by : J.R. Jennings
Download or read book Catalytic Ammonia Synthesis written by J.R. Jennings and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of catalysis is found in many homogeneous and heterogeneous systems undergoing chemical change, where it effects the rates of approach to the equilibrium state in processes as diverse as those found in the stars, the earth's mantle, living organisms, and the various chemistries utilized by industry. The economies and the living standards of both developed and developing countries depend to varying degrees upon the efficacy of their chemical industries. Con sequently, this century has seen a wide exploration and expansion of catalytic chemistry together with an intensive investigation of specific, essential processes like those contributing to life-supporting agricultures. Prime among the latter must surely be the "fixation" of atmospheric nitrogen by catalytic hydrogenation to anhydrous ammonia, still the preferred synthetic precursor of the nitrogenous components of fertilizers. In each decade contemporary concepts and techniques have been used to further the understanding, as yet incomplete, of the catalyst, the adsorbates, the surface reactions, and the technology of large-scale operation. The contributors to the present volume review the state of the art, the science, and the technology; they reveal existing lacunae, and suggest ways forward. Around the turn of the century, Sabatier's school was extending the descriptive catalytic chemistry of hydrogenation by metals to include almost all types of multiple bond. The triple bond of dinitrogen, which continued to be more resistant than the somewhat similar bonds in carbon monoxide and ethyne, defied their efforts.
Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Hydride Chemistry by : Maurizio Peruzzini
Download or read book Recent Advances in Hydride Chemistry written by Maurizio Peruzzini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-01-30 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been conceived to collect the most important recent advances in all areas of hydride chemistry research, including chemical reactivity, instrumental investigation, theory, and applications in the areas of catalysis, biochemistry and materials science. Many of the chapters have been written by the plenary lecturers of the EURO-Hydrides 2000 conference, but other leading scientists in this field have also been invited to contribute. The first part of the book focuses on the chemistry and catalysis of transition metal hydrides. Another block of chapters illustrates the most recent advances in the application of instrumental techniques to the study of the properties and reactivity of hydride compounds. The final part of the book illustrates the relevance of metal-hydrogen bonds in biochemistry and materials science. All of the chapters of this book have been evaluated by independent reviewers.
Book Synopsis Modern Coordination Chemistry by : G. J. Leigh
Download or read book Modern Coordination Chemistry written by G. J. Leigh and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2002 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Chatt was a pioneering figure in coordination chemistry. Intended as a record of Chatt's life, work, and influence, this book begins with a description of Chatt's career presented by co-workers, contemporaries, and students, then goes on to show that many of today's leading practitioners in the field have been influenced by Chatt. The latest research in coordination chemistry is presented to highlight Chatt's continuing legacy, in sections on the synthesis and reactivity of hydrido and dihydrogen complexes, the chemistry of phosphines, transition metal complexes of olefins and related isolobal ligands, chemistry related to dinitrogen complexes, the biological work of the ARC unit of nitrogen fixation at the University of Sussex, and patterns and generalizations in stability and reactivity. Leigh is affiliated with the University of Sussex, UK, and Winterton is affiliated with the University of Liverpool, UK. The book is distributed in the US by Springer Verlag. Book Synopsis Inorganometallic Chemistry by : Thomas P. Fehlner
Download or read book Inorganometallic Chemistry written by Thomas P. Fehlner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a certain fascination associated with words. The manipulation of strings of symbols according to mutually accepted rules allows a language to express history as well as to formulate challenges for the future. But language changes as old words are used in a new context and new words are created to describe changing situations. How many words has the computer revolution alone added to languages? "Inorganometallic" is a word you probably have never encountered before. It is one created from old words to express a new presence. A strange sounding word, it is also a term fraught with internal contradiction caused by the accepted meanings of its constituent parts. "In organic" is the name of a discipline of chemistry while "metallic" refers to a set of elements constituting a subsection of that discipline. Why then this Carrollian approach to entitling a set of serious academic papers? Organic, the acknowledged doyenne of chemistry, is distinguished from her brother, inorganic, by the prefix "in," i. e. , he gets everything not organic. Organometallic refers to compounds with carbon-metal bonds. It is simple! Inorganometallic is everything else, i. e. , compounds with noncarbon-metal element bonds. But why a new term? Is not inorganic sufficient? By virtue of training, limited time, resources, co-workers, and so on, chemists tend to work on a specific element class, on a particular compound type, or in a particular phase. Thus, one finds element-oriented chemists (e. g.
