Book Synopsis Dimensional Instability by : R. E. Maringer
Download or read book Dimensional Instability written by R. E. Maringer and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The point of the memorandum is to emphasize the danger in accepting engineering data at face value. The definition of units used in the measurement of engineering parameters related to solid materials is discussed. A major portion of the memorandum is concerned with micromechanical strength parameters in solids such as yield strength, elastic limit, and proportional limit. Variation of elastic 'constants' in ordinary engineering materials under various conditions is discussed. A final section of the memorandum discusses variation of the thermal expansion coefficient in materials. (Author).

Book Synopsis On the Three-dimensional Instability of Laminar Boundary Layers on Concave Walls by : Henry Görtler
Download or read book On the Three-dimensional Instability of Laminar Boundary Layers on Concave Walls written by Henry Görtler and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is made of the stability of laminar boundary-layer profiles on slightly curved walls relative to small disturbances that result from vortices whose axes are parallel to the principal direction of flow. The result is an eigenvalue problem by which, for a given undisturbed flow at a prescribed wall, the amplification or decay is computed for each Reynolds number and each vortex thickness. For neutral disturbances (zero amplification) a critical Reynolds number is determined for each vortex distribution. The numerical calculation produces amplified disturbances on concave walls only.

Download or read book Internal Stresses, Dimensional Instabilities and Molecular Orientations in Plastics written by L. C. E. Struik and published by . This book was released on 1990-04-18 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents the results of an investigation conducted at the former TNO Central Laboratory between 1968 and 1973, and also includes more recent data from the literature and the results of ground-breaking research. Increasing demands on precision injection molding, from more stringent requirements, with respect to dimensional and shape stability, to attempts to build Computer Aided Design programs that link processing conditions and product properties, have necessitated a book such as this. Topics discussed range from linear viscoelastic theory to the origin of cooling stresses, to the definition of orientation.
Book Synopsis Instability and Transition by : M.Y. Hussaini
Download or read book Instability and Transition written by M.Y. Hussaini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes contain the proceedings of the workshop on the Institute for Computer Instability and Transition, sponsored by Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) and the Langley Research Center (LaRC), during May 15 to June 9, 1989. The work shop coincided with the initiation of a new, focused research pro gram on instability and transition at LaRC. The objectives of the workshop were to (i) expose the academic community to current technologically important issues of instability and transition in shear flows over the entire speed range, (ii) acquaint the academic com munity with the unique combination of theoretical, computational and experimental capabilities at LaRC and foster interaction with these facilities, (iii) review current state-of-the-art and propose fu ture directions for instability and transition research, (iv) accelerate progress in elucidating basic understanding of transition phenomena and in transferring this knowledge into improved design methodolo gies through improved transition modeling, and (v) establish mech anisms for continued interaction. The objectives (i) to (iii) were of course immediately met. It is still premature to assess whether ob jectives (iv) and (v) are achieved. The workshop program consisted of tutorials, research presenta tions, panel discussions, experimental and computational demonstra tions, and collaborative projects.

Book Synopsis Hydrodynamic Instability and Transition to Turbulence by : Akiva M. Yaglom
Download or read book Hydrodynamic Instability and Transition to Turbulence written by Akiva M. Yaglom and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-18 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a complete revision of the part of Monin & Yaglom's famous two-volume work "Statistical Fluid Mechanics: Mechanics of Turbulence" that deals with the theory of laminar-flow instability and transition to turbulence. It includes the considerable advances in the subject that have been made in the last 15 years or so. It is intended as a textbook for advanced graduate courses and as a reference for research students and professional research workers. The first two Chapters are an introduction to the mathematics, and the experimental results, for the instability of laminar (or inviscid) flows to infinitesimal (in practice "small") disturbances. The third Chapter develops this linear theory in more detail and describes its application to particular problems. Chapters 4 and 5 deal with instability to finite-amplitude disturbances: much of the material has previously been available only in research papers.
Book Synopsis Liquid Rocket Engine Combustion Instability by : Vigor Young
Download or read book Liquid Rocket Engine Combustion Instability written by Vigor Young and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Since the invention of the V-2 rocket during World War II, combustion instabilities have been recognized as one of the most difficult problems in the development of liquid propellant rocket engines. This book is the first published in the United States on the subject since NASA's Liquid Rocket Combustion Instability (NASA SP-194) in 1972. In this book, experts cover four major subject areas: engine phenomenology and case studies, fundamental mechanisms of combustion instability, combustion instability analysis, and engine and component testing. Especially noteworthy is the inclusion of technical information from Russia and China--a first.

Book Synopsis The Origin of Turbulence in Near-Wall Flows by : A.V. Boiko
Download or read book The Origin of Turbulence in Near-Wall Flows written by A.V. Boiko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-01-22 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive survey of the origin of turbulence in near-wall shear layer flows. Instead of going too far into details modern approaches to the problem are discussed in a conceptual treatment. The transition from laminar to turbulent flows in shear layers is described including the generation of flow perturbations, their amplification and development, the breakdown of the initial laminar state, and transformation to a turbulent regime. This book also presents new approaches to boundary-layer transitions with strong external-flow perturbations and to the prediction and control of the presented near-wall transitions to turbulence. This book is addressed to researchers, lecturers and students in engineering, physics and mathematics.
