Book Synopsis Essentials of Geophysical Data Processing by : Clark R. Wilson
Download or read book Essentials of Geophysical Data Processing written by Clark R. Wilson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-21 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise introduction to geophysical data processing - many of the techniques associated with the general field of time series analysis - for advanced students, researchers, and professionals. The textbook begins with calculus before transitioning to discrete time series via the sampling theorem, aliasing, use of complex sinusoids, development of the discrete Fourier transform from the Fourier series, and an overview of linear digital filter types and descriptions. Aimed at senior undergraduate and graduate students in geophysics, environmental science, and engineering with no previous background in linear algebra, probability, or statistics, this textbook draws scenarios and datasets from across the world of geophysics, and shows how data processing techniques can be applied to real-world problems using detailed examples, illustrations, and exercises (using MATLAB or similar computing environment). Online supplementary resources include datasets for students, and a solutions manual and all the figures from the book as PowerPoints for course instructors.

This book was released on 2017-08-14 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between modern image processing practices by the scientific community at large and the world of geology and reflection seismology This book covers the basics of seismic exploration, with a focus on image processing techniques as applied to seismic data. Discussions of theories, concepts, and algorithms are followed by synthetic and real data examples to provide the reader with a practical understanding of the image processing technique and to enable the reader to apply these techniques to seismic data. The book will also help readers interested in devising new algorithms, software and hardware for interpreting seismic data. Key Features: Provides an easy to understand overview of popular seismic processing and interpretation techniques from the point of view of a digital signal processor. Presents image processing concepts that may be readily applied directly to seismic data. Includes ready-to-run MATLAB algorithms for most of the techniques presented. The book includes essential research and teaching material for digital signal and image processing individuals interested in learning seismic data interpretation from the point of view of digital signal processing. It is an ideal resource for students, professors and working professionals who are interested in learning about the application of digital signal processing theory and algorithms to seismic data.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Geophysical Potential Fields by : P.S. Naidu
Download or read book Analysis of Geophysical Potential Fields written by P.S. Naidu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-06-19 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When some useful information is hidden behind a mass of unwanted information we often resort to information processing used in its broad sense or specifically to signal processing when the useful information is a waveform. In geophysical surveys, in particular in aeromagnetic and gravity surveys, from the measured field it is often difficult to say much about any one specific target unless it is close to the surface and well isolated from the rest. The digital signal processing approach would enable us to bring out the underlying model of the source, that is, the geological structure. Some of the tools of dsp such as digital filtering, spectrum estimation, inversion, etc., have found extensive applications in aeromagnetic and gravity map analysis. There are other emerging applications of dsp in the area of inverse filtering, three dimensional visualization, etc.The purpose of this book is to bring numerous tools of dsp to the geophysical community, in particular, to those who are entering the geophysical profession. Also the practicing geophysicists, involved in the aeromagnetic and gravity data analysis, using the commercially available software packages, will find this book useful in answering their questions on "why and how?". It is hoped that such a background would enable the practising geophysicists to appreciate the prospects and limitations of the dsp in extracting useful information from the potential field maps. The topics covered are: potential field signals and models, digital filtering in two dimensions, spectrum estimation and application, parameter estimation with error bounds.

Book Synopsis Geophysical Data Analysis: Discrete Inverse Theory by : William Menke
Download or read book Geophysical Data Analysis: Discrete Inverse Theory written by William Menke and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geophysical Data Analysis: Discrete Inverse Theory is an introductory text focusing on discrete inverse theory that is concerned with parameters that either are truly discrete or can be adequately approximated as discrete. Organized into 12 chapters, the book's opening chapters provide a general background of inverse problems and their corresponding solution, as well as some of the basic concepts from probability theory that are applied throughout the text. Chapters 3-7 discuss the solution of the canonical inverse problem, that is, the linear problem with Gaussian statistics, and discussions on problems that are non-Gaussian and nonlinear are covered in Chapters 8 and 9. Chapters 10-12 present examples of the use of inverse theory and a discussion on the numerical algorithms that must be employed to solve inverse problems on a computer. This book is of value to graduate students and many college seniors in the applied sciences.

This book was released on 1983-10-31 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The first phase of geophysical exploration is carried out on the subsurface. The subsurface in this phase is inaccessible to direct observation. D.W. Strangway presents an interesting and effective method: audiofrequency magnetotelluric (AMT) sounding. In the second phase where observations can be made, D.J Buchanan writes of fault detection in coal seams, and A. Hussain writes about of gravity surveys.Other contributions include, improvement of geophysical logs by filtering and a troublesome problem which can appear in either phase of exploration-discovery and exploration of caves and abandoned mine workings.'
