Book Synopsis Digital Filtering in One and Two Dimensions by : M. Ahmadi
Download or read book Digital Filtering in One and Two Dimensions written by M. Ahmadi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been conceived to extend the generally published work on one- and two-dimensional digital filters in order to include some of the more recently developed ideas. It is intended to supplement and build on the classical books which cover the fundamental concepts of the topic. As a consequence of this, the basic theory is stated in a compact manner and is not developed thoroughly, as this would result in considerable duplication of existing books. The main theme of the book has been to provide a comprehensive background to the methods available for the realization of both recursive and nonrecursive digital filters, and to give an insight into some of the more recent implementation procedures. The book is planned to cover one- and two-dimensional systems in parallel, showing the techniques which are applicable in both areas, and also the limitations and constraints necessary when a one-dimensional technique is extended to systems of higher dimensionality. The theme of the book commences with several chapters on the design of filter transfer functions to meet given specifications. This is followed by a discussion of methods of implementing these in a practical system and the limitations imposed as a result of noise and finite word length. Finally, a discussion of some applications is included.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Digital Filters by : Ioannis Pitas
Download or read book Nonlinear Digital Filters written by Ioannis Pitas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The function of a filter is to transform a signal into another one more suit able for a given purpose. As such, filters find applications in telecommunica tions, radar, sonar, remote sensing, geophysical signal processing, image pro cessing, and computer vision. Numerous authors have considered deterministic and statistical approaches for the study of passive, active, digital, multidimen sional, and adaptive filters. Most of the filters considered were linear although the theory of nonlinear filters is developing rapidly, as it is evident by the numerous research papers and a few specialized monographs now available. Our research interests in this area created opportunity for cooperation and co authored publications during the past few years in many nonlinear filter families described in this book. As a result of this cooperation and a visit from John Pitas on a research leave at the University of Toronto in September 1988, the idea for this book was first conceived. The difficulty in writing such a mono graph was that the area seemed fragmented and no general theory was available to encompass the many different kinds of filters presented in the literature. However, the similarities of some families of nonlinear filters and the need for such a monograph providing a broad overview of the whole area made the pro ject worthwhile. The result is the book now in your hands, typeset at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Toronto during the summer of 1989.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Digital Filters by : Julius Orion Smith
Download or read book Introduction to Digital Filters written by Julius Orion Smith and published by Julius Smith. This book was released on 2007 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A digital filter can be pictured as a "black box" that accepts a sequence of numbers and emits a new sequence of numbers. In digital audio signal processing applications, such number sequences usually represent sounds. For example, digital filters are used to implement graphic equalizers and other digital audio effects. This book is a gentle introduction to digital filters, including mathematical theory, illustrative examples, some audio applications, and useful software starting points. The theory treatment begins at the high-school level, and covers fundamental concepts in linear systems theory and digital filter analysis. Various "small" digital filters are analyzed as examples, particularly those commonly used in audio applications. Matlab programming examples are emphasized for illustrating the use and development of digital filters in practice.

Book excerpt: The book is not an exposition on digital signal processing (DSP) but rather a treatise on digital filters. The material and coverage is comprehensive, presented in a consistent that first develops topics and subtopics in terms it their purpose, relationship to other core ideas, theoretical and conceptual framework, and finally instruction in the implementation of digital filter devices. Each major study is supported by Matlab-enabled activities and examples, with each Chapter culminating in a comprehensive design case study.

For years, Image Processing has been the foundational text for the study of digital image processing. The book is suited for students at the college senior and first-year graduate level with prior background in mathematical analysis, vectors, matrices, probability, statistics, linear systems, and computer programming. As in all earlier editions, the focus of this edition of the book is on fundamentals. The 4th Edition is based on an extensive survey of faculty, students, and independent readers in 5 institutions from 3 countries. Their feedback led to expanded or new coverage of topics such as deep learning and deep neural networks, including convolutional neural nets, the scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT), MERS, graph cuts, k-means clustering and superpiels, active contours (snakes and level sets), and each histogram matching. Major improvements were made in reorganising the material on image transforms into a more cohesive presentation, and in the discussion of spatial kernels and spatial filtering. Major revisions and additions were made to examples and homework exercises throughout the book.
