Book Synopsis Pathology of Rheumatic Diseases by : H.G. Fassbender
Download or read book Pathology of Rheumatic Diseases written by H.G. Fassbender and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pathology is no longer the" dead science" it was reputed to be a few decades ago. The famous Canadian pathologist, William Boyd, expressed the newer attitude aptly when he stated that pathology should no longer be concerned simply with describing the" WHAT" of disease, but must be increasingly con cerned with the "HOW" and the "WHY". By this he implied that the preoccupa tion of the usual student of disease in the architecture of diseased tissues and descriptions of participating cells, their staining characteristics, etc. , must give way to study and understanding of the dynamics of each disease process, the pathogenetic mechanisms producing the changes in body tissues. This study is not limited simply to etiologic factors and portals of entry to the site of the lesion, but includes the physical and chemical factors involved, the variations of host response conditioned by immunologic reactions of differing intensities, enzymatic excesses or deficiencies, and a host of other variables of little known character such as the prostaglandins which definitely affect the disease process. No longer is the pathologist one who looks at sections of diseased tissue merely for differentiation of disease, but truly a pathologist studies disease.

This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheumatic diseases are a group of diseases that cause varying degrees of disability, involving bones, joints, muscles and surrounding soft tissues. In the last two decades, increasing research on rheumatic diseases has been conducted. Nevertheless, the etiology and pathogenesis of these diseases have not been fully elucidated. It is generally recognized that the onset and development of rheumatic diseases are the result of a combination of multiple factors, such as genetic, environmental and immune abnormalities, etc. Among these factors, the influence of immune abnormalities in rheumatic diseases has been extensively explored in depth nowadays. Moreover, as the influence of genetic and environmental factors on public health is gaining more attention, studies on the role of these two types of factors in rheumatic diseases have become an important direction.

Book Synopsis Comorbidity in Rheumatic Diseases by : Yasser El Miedany
Download or read book Comorbidity in Rheumatic Diseases written by Yasser El Miedany and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores comorbidity in patients with rheumatic diseases and details both care and treatment options in standard clinical practice. Patients with rheumatic diseases are clinically complex, and the interplay of their disease activity with associated conditions may lead to increased morbidity and mortality. Recently there have been major advances in the management of rheumatic diseases, however, without addressing the potential comorbid conditions, including cardiovascular disease; pulmonary disease; and depression; outcomes remain poor. With its 19 chapters, covering the management of major rheumatic diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus , and osteoarthritis), potential comorbidities and treatment recommendations, as well as possible interactions between conditions; this book addresses the gap between textbook medicine and day to day patients' care. Authors also discuss the new hot issue of the comorbidity index, comparing the standard tools to the recently developed indices and how they can assist the rheumatologists in determining disease burden, prognosis, and comorbidity probability. This book is an ideal clinical guide and reference that enables rheumatologists, internal medicine physicians, and residents to address the full clinical expression of these rheumatic diseases with views towards prevention or early management of comorbid conditions.
