Book Synopsis Lectures on Kähler Geometry by : Andrei Moroianu
Download or read book Lectures on Kähler Geometry written by Andrei Moroianu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-29 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kähler geometry is a beautiful and intriguing area of mathematics, of substantial research interest to both mathematicians and physicists. This self-contained graduate text provides a concise and accessible introduction to the topic. The book begins with a review of basic differential geometry, before moving on to a description of complex manifolds and holomorphic vector bundles. Kähler manifolds are discussed from the point of view of Riemannian geometry, and Hodge and Dolbeault theories are outlined, together with a simple proof of the famous Kähler identities. The final part of the text studies several aspects of compact Kähler manifolds: the Calabi conjecture, Weitzenböck techniques, Calabi–Yau manifolds, and divisors. All sections of the book end with a series of exercises and students and researchers working in the fields of algebraic and differential geometry and theoretical physics will find that the book provides them with a sound understanding of this theory.

Book Synopsis Complex Spaces in Finsler, Lagrange and Hamilton Geometries by : Gheorghe Munteanu
Download or read book Complex Spaces in Finsler, Lagrange and Hamilton Geometries written by Gheorghe Munteanu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-03 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a historical point of view, the theory we submit to the present study has its origins in the famous dissertation of P. Finsler from 1918 ([Fi]). In a the classical notion also conventional classification, Finsler geometry has besides a number of generalizations, which use the same work technique and which can be considered self-geometries: Lagrange and Hamilton spaces. Finsler geometry had a period of incubation long enough, so that few math ematicians (E. Cartan, L. Berwald, S.S. Chem, H. Rund) had the patience to penetrate into a universe of tensors, which made them compare it to a jungle. To aU of us, who study nowadays Finsler geometry, it is obvious that the qualitative leap was made in the 1970's by the crystallization of the nonlinear connection notion (a notion which is almost as old as Finsler space, [SZ4]) and by work-skills into its adapted frame fields. The results obtained by M. Matsumoto (coUected later, in 1986, in a monograph, [Ma3]) aroused interest not only in Japan, but also in other countries such as Romania, Hungary, Canada and the USA, where schools of Finsler geometry are founded and are presently widely recognized.
Book Synopsis Hodge Theory and Complex Algebraic Geometry I: by : Claire Voisin
Download or read book Hodge Theory and Complex Algebraic Geometry I: written by Claire Voisin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-12-20 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a modern introduction to Kaehlerian geometry and Hodge structure. Coverage begins with variables, complex manifolds, holomorphic vector bundles, sheaves and cohomology theory (with the latter being treated in a more theoretical way than is usual in geometry). The book culminates with the Hodge decomposition theorem. In between, the author proves the Kaehler identities, which leads to the hard Lefschetz theorem and the Hodge index theorem. The second part of the book investigates the meaning of these results in several directions.
Book Synopsis Lectures on Differential Geometry by : Shiing-Shen Chern
Download or read book Lectures on Differential Geometry written by Shiing-Shen Chern and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a translation of an authoritative introductory text based on a lecture series delivered by the renowned differential geometer, Professor S S Chern in Beijing University in 1980. The present translation is aimed at a wide audience, including (but not limited to) advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics, as well as physicists interested in the diverse applications of differential geometry to physics. In addition to a thorough treatment of the fundamentals of manifold theory, exterior algebra, the exterior calculus, connections on fiber bundles, Riemannian geometry, Lie groups and moving frames, and complex manifolds (with a succinct introduction to the theory of Chern classes), and an appendix on the relationship between differential geometry and theoretical physics, this book includes a new chapter on Finsler geometry and a new appendix on the history and recent developments of differential geometry, the latter prepared specially for this edition by Professor Chern to bring the text into perspectives.
Book Synopsis DIFFERENTIAL GEOMETRY OF MANIFOLDS by : QUDDUS KHAN
Download or read book DIFFERENTIAL GEOMETRY OF MANIFOLDS written by QUDDUS KHAN and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-09-03 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curves and surfaces are objects that everyone can see, and many of the questions that can be asked about them are natural and easily understood. Differential geometry is concerned with the precise mathematical formulation of some of these questions, while trying to answer them using calculus techniques. The geometry of differentiable manifolds with structures is one of the most important branches of modern differential geometry. This well-written book discusses the theory of differential and Riemannian manifolds to help students understand the basic structures and consequent developments. While introducing concepts such as bundles, exterior algebra and calculus, Lie group and its algebra and calculus, Riemannian geometry, submanifolds and hypersurfaces, almost complex manifolds, etc., enough care has been taken to provide necessary details which enable the reader to grasp them easily. The material of this book has been successfully tried in classroom teaching. The book is designed for the postgraduate students of Mathematics. It will also be useful to the researchers working in the field of differential geometry and its applications to general theory of relativity and cosmology, and other applied areas. KEY FEATURES Provides basic concepts in an easy-to-understand style. Presents the subject in a natural way. Follows a coordinate-free approach. Includes a large number of solved examples and illuminating illustrations. Gives notes and remarks at appropriate places.
Book Synopsis Visual Complex Analysis by : Tristan Needham
Download or read book Visual Complex Analysis written by Tristan Needham and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This radical first course on complex analysis brings a beautiful and powerful subject to life by consistently using geometry (not calculation) as the means of explanation. Aimed at undergraduate students in mathematics, physics, and engineering, the book's intuitive explanations, lack of advanced prerequisites, and consciously user-friendly prose style will help students to master the subject more readily than was previously possible. The key to this is the book's use of new geometric arguments in place of the standard calculational ones. These geometric arguments are communicated with the aid of hundreds of diagrams of a standard seldom encountered in mathematical works. A new approach to a classical topic, this work will be of interest to students in mathematics, physics, and engineering, as well as to professionals in these fields.

Book Synopsis Differential Geometry, Lie Groups, and Symmetric Spaces by : Sigurdur Helgason
Download or read book Differential Geometry, Lie Groups, and Symmetric Spaces written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1979-02-09 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book is intended as a textbook and reference work on three topics in the title. Together with a volume in progress on "Groups and Geometric Analysis" it supersedes my "Differential Geometry and Symmetric Spaces," published in 1962. Since that time several branches of the subject, particularly the function theory on symmetric spaces, have developed substantially. I felt that an expanded treatment might now be useful.
