Download or read book The Mind of the Guru written by Rajiv Mehrotra and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Mind of the Guru, Rajiv Mehrotra presents dialogues with several contemporary sages and masters who have illumined the minds of millions around the world. Ranged here are gurus as diverse as B. K. S. Iyengar, who brought yoga from the world of the esoteric to our living rooms; Swami Ramdev, who has democratized yoga via television; and Mata Amritanandamayi, whose mere presence invokes an overwhelming awareness of love. There is Deepak Chopra discussing a quantum healing of mind and body, Sogyal Rinpoche encouraging us to look at death so that we might live a better life and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar reaffirming each person’s right and access to happiness. And there is the unique and contrary voice of U. G. Krishnamurti telling us that all talk of transformation is poppycock. There are no grand narratives or final solutions, only guides who can show the way to the light within. Here you learn from voices as diverse as that of Thich Nhat Hanh, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Baba Amte and Stanislav Grof. Underlying the dialogues is their wisdom on how we can make ourselves unhappy – and guidance on how we can turn our lives around to achieve happiness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Guru Tradition: India’s Spiritual Heritage discusses the natures and roles of both the guru and the śiṣya, or disciple, as depicted in the Upaniṣads and Dharma Śāstras. The entirety of this analysis, of guru and disciple, is developed into a paradigm by which both the ancient and modern Guru Tradition can be more thoroughly understood. Four pivotal gurus from the twentieth century who have impacted the spiritual fabric of both East and West —Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Sri Aurobindo, Ramana Maharshi, and Paramahansa Yogananda— are juxtaposed and discussed alongside this paradigm. This study is conducted from the perspective of Advaita Vedānta, the Indian philosophical system of nondualism.

Book Synopsis A Dialogue with Truth by : Madan Mohan Verma
Download or read book A Dialogue with Truth written by Madan Mohan Verma and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today the world is witnessing greater conflicts among people of the same beliefs, religions, cultures, and ideologies. Many are fighting in the name of God and yet killing his people despite the fact that no religion flows from the barrel of a gun, and no sacred scriptures sanction the killing of the innocent in the name of God. In the face of such conflict, no religion can afford to overlook the spirituality and legitimacy of these truths. A Dialogue with Truth explores the way major world religions can have the potential to counteract the negative forces of conflict in the world and instead usher in an era of fellowship. Every religion advocates universal human values, and they each speak to a basic message for humankindin fact, the origin and meaning of all prophetic revelation is the same, as these revelations have been revealed by God. Author Madan Mohan Verma shows how we can overcome conflict between religions by understanding each religion in its own distinctiveness and see its contribution to the unity of humankind. The foundations of a pluralistic societyits culture and its legal and educational systemsrequire an acceptance of universal human values derived from spiritual scriptures and human experience. Therefore, the path forward is one where we seek positive dialogue at all levels and appreciate each others points of view while upholding the spirit of oneness.
Book Synopsis The Transformative Philosophical Dialogue by : Shai Tubali
Download or read book The Transformative Philosophical Dialogue written by Shai Tubali and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores dialogue as a transformative form of philosophical practice by unveiling the method behind the unique dialogue developed by mystic and thinker Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895–1986). While Krishnamurti himself generally rejected the cultivation of systems and techniques, Shai Tubali argues that there are easily identifiable patterns through which Krishnamurti strove to realize his dialogical aims. For this reason, he refers to this method, whose existence has evaded Krishnamurti’s followers and scholars alike, as the Krishnamurti dialogue. He suggests that these discursive patterns serve to broaden our understanding of the possibilities of philosophical and religious dialogues and further illuminate established forms of dynamic discourse, such as the Socratic method. Inspired by Pierre Hadot’s revolutionary reading of the classical Greco-Roman texts, the author centers his attention on Plato’s Socratic dialogues and the guru–disciple conversations in the Hindu Upanishads, which fall within the scope of what may be termed ‘the transformative dialogue’: dialogues that have been written with the intention of bringing about a transformation in the mind of the interlocutor and reader and reorienting their way of life. This text appeals to students as well as researchers and suggests that the Krishnamurti dialogue is not only a continuation and development of the transformative dialogue, but that it also amalgamates ingredients of classical Western philosophy and South Asian mysticism. Moreover, this type of dialogue encourages readers to revisit the lost practice of transformative philosophy, in that it reveals new pathways of philosophical and religious inquiry that bear thought-provoking practical implications.
