This book was released on 1994 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: NOUS NOUS SOMMES INTERESSES A LA CONSTRUCTION ET A L'ETUDE D'UNE CLASSE DE SCHEMAS D'ORDRE TROIS OU QUATRE EN TEMPS ET EN ESPACE, BASES SUR DES FORMULATIONS -SHEMAS DE TYPE VOLUMES FINIS OU ELEMENTS FINIS, POUR DES MAILLAGES BIDIMENSIONNELS EN RECTANGLES OU EN TRIANGLES. NOUS CONSIDERONS DANS UN PREMIER TEMPS DES PROBLEMES HYPERBOLIQUES LINEAIRES, COMME L'EQUATION D'ADVECTION ET LE SYSTEME DE MAXWELL. UNE ETUDE DE STABILITE ET DE PRECISION, A L'AIDE DES EQUATIONS EQUIVALENTES A ETE PRESENTEE, AFIN DE COMPARER LES SCHEMAS ET DE RETENIR LES PLUS PRECIS. EN PARTICULIER, POUR LE SYSTEME DE MAXWELL, UNE CONDITION NECESSAIRE ET SUFFISANTE DE STABILITE A ETE DEMONTREE POUR LE SCHEMA DECENTRE D'ORDRE UN, SUR UN MAILLAGE EN RECTANGLES. NOUS AVONS AUSSI PROPOSE UNE NOUVELLE FORMULATION DU SYSTEME DE MAXWELL, EN RAJOUTANT UN TERME DE VISCOSITE DANS LES EQUATIONS, AFIN QUE NOS SCHEMAS PRENNENT MIEUX EN COMPTE LES RELATIONS DE DIVERGENCE. UNE ETUDE DE STABILITE A PERMIS DE DETERMINER LE PARAMETRE DE VISCOSITE N'INTRODUISANT AUCUNE CONTRAINTE SUPPLEMENTAIRE SUR LE PAS DE TEMPS, ET NOUS AVONS MONTRE A L'AIDE DE RESULTATS NUMERIQUES, POURQUOI LA NOUVELLE FORMULATION ETAIT MEILLEURE. DANS LA DEUXIEME PARTIE, NOUS NOUS SOMMES INTERESSES A DES MODELES HYPERBOLIQUES NON LINEAIRES, COMME LES EQUATIONS D'EULER. NOUS AVONS CHERCHE A CONSTRUIRE DES LIMITEURS D'ORDRE ELEVE AFIN DE RENDRE NOS SCHEMAS POSITIFS. EN PARTICULIER, NOUS AVONS PRESENTE UN NOUVEAU LIMITEUR D'ORDRE TROIS, QUI S'EST AVERE STABLE ET ROBUSTE, POUR DES CALCULS DE TUBE A CHOC ET D'ECOULEMENTS TRANSSONIQUES STATIONNAIRES. NOUS AVONS FINALEMENT CONSIDERE UN MODELE EULERIEN D'ECOULEMENT DIPHASIQUE, HYPERBOLIQUE ET CONSERVATIF, COMPORTANT UN TERME SOURCE RAIDE. LA METHODE CLASSIQUE D'INTEGRATION EN TEMPS EST UNE METHODE DE PAS FRACTIONNAIRES ; TOUTEFOIS, ELLE COMPORTE PLUSIEURS FAIBLESSES, ET NOUS AVONS PROPOSE UNE METHODE COUPLEE, QUI S'AVERE PLUS PRECISE LORSQUE LE RAYON DES PARTICULES DEVIENT PETIT.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homogenization is not about periodicity, or Gamma-convergence, but about understanding which effective equations to use at macroscopic level, knowing which partial differential equations govern mesoscopic levels, without using probabilities (which destroy physical reality); instead, one uses various topologies of weak type, the G-convergence of Sergio Spagnolo, the H-convergence of François Murat and the author, and some responsible for the appearance of nonlocal effects, which many theories in continuum mechanics or physics guessed wrongly. For a better understanding of 20th century science, new mathematical tools must be introduced, like the author’s H-measures, variants by Patrick Gérard, and others yet to be discovered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide an elementary yet systematic description of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equations, their unique symmetry properties and their relation to Green’s function theory. Specifically, it introduces readers to the supercell technique for the solutions of the BdG equations, as well as other related techniques for more rapidly solving the equations in practical applications. The BdG equations are derived from a microscopic model Hamiltonian with an effective pairing interaction and fully capture the local electronic structure through self-consistent solutions via exact diagonalization. This approach has been successfully generalized to study many aspects of conventional and unconventional superconductors with inhomogeneities – including defects, disorder or the presence of a magnetic field – and becomes an even more attractive choice when the first-principles information of a typical superconductor is incorporated via the construction of a low-energy tight-binding model. Further, the lattice BdG approach is essential when theoretical results for local electronic states around such defects are compared with the scanning tunneling microscopy measurements. Altogether, these lectures provide a timely primer for graduate students and non-specialist researchers, while also offering a useful reference guide for experts in the field.

Book excerpt: Contemporary Criminological Issues tackles some of today’s most pressing social issues, from the criminalization of Indigenous peoples to interpersonal violence, border control, and armed conflicts. This book advances cutting-edge theories and methods, with the aim of moving beyond the scholarship that reproduces insecurity and exclusion. The breadth of approaches encompasses much of the current critical criminological scholarship, serving as a counterpoint to the growth of managerial and administrative criminologies and the rise of explicitly exclusionary and punitive state policies and practices with respect to ‘crime’ and ‘security.’ This edited collection featuring two books, one in English and one in French, includes important contributions to knowledge and public policy by eminent experts and emerging scholars. This book is published in English.

Book excerpt: The proceedings of the 9th conference on "Finite Volumes for Complex Applications" (Bergen, June 2020) are structured in two volumes. The first volume collects the focused invited papers, as well as the reviewed contributions from internationally leading researchers in the field of analysis of finite volume and related methods. Topics covered include convergence and stability analysis, as well as investigations of these methods from the point of view of compatibility with physical principles. Altogether, a rather comprehensive overview is given on the state of the art in the field. The properties of the methods considered in the conference give them distinguished advantages for a number of applications. These include fluid dynamics, magnetohydrodynamics, structural analysis, nuclear physics, semiconductor theory, carbon capture utilization and storage, geothermal energy and further topics. The second volume covers reviewed contributions reporting successful applications of finite volume and related methods in these fields. The finite volume method in its various forms is a space discretization technique for partial differential equations based on the fundamental physical principle of conservation. Many finite volume methods preserve further qualitative or asymptotic properties, including maximum principles, dissipativity, monotone decay of free energy, and asymptotic stability, making the finite volume methods compatible discretization methods, which preserve qualitative properties of continuous problems at the discrete level. This structural approach to the discretization of partial differential equations becomes particularly important for multiphysics and multiscale applications. The book is a valuable resource for researchers, PhD and master’s level students in numerical analysis, scientific computing and related fields such as partial differential equations, as well as engineers working in numerical modeling and simulations.
