Book Synopsis Current Trends in Cryobiology by : Audrey U. Smith
Download or read book Current Trends in Cryobiology written by Audrey U. Smith and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past 20 years there have been amazing developments in low temperature physics, engineering, and biology. They form part of the very rapid post-war growth in pure and applied sciences of every kind. During this period several branches of biology including immunology, molecular biology and, of course, cryobiology, have split off from their parent disciplines. One result of this splintering has been the development of separate jargons used by the specialists and sometimes incomprehensible to those working in closely allied fields. The pure physicists, chemists, and the applied scientists, including physicians, surgeons, and pathologists, find the new jargons particularly baffling. We have attempted in this monograph to present to cryogenic engineers a picture of cryobiologists and their problems using as few strange technical words as possible. We hope that this book will help to bridge the gap which has already formed between them in spite of the opportunities for collaboration in many projects. We hope that it may also be useful to scientific research workers and postgraduate students of many kinds united only by curiosity about cryobiology. We are very much indebted to Dr. K. Mendelssohn, who insti gated us to produce a monograph and who reassured us that cryogenic engineers are as keen to understand the current trends in biology, and particularly in cryobiology, as we are to enlist their help. We have had much help in preparing this book.

Book Synopsis Current Advances in Drug Delivery Through Fast Dissolving/Disintegrating Dosage Forms by : Vikas Anand Saharan
Download or read book Current Advances in Drug Delivery Through Fast Dissolving/Disintegrating Dosage Forms written by Vikas Anand Saharan and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017-05-11 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fast Dissolving/Disintegrating Dosage Forms (FDDFs) have been commercially available since the late 1990s. FDDFs were initially available as orodispersible tablets, and later, as orodipsersible films for treating specific populations (pediatrics, geriatrics, and psychiatric patients). Granules, pellets and mini tablets are among latest additions to these dosage forms, which are still in the development pipeline. As drug delivery systems, FDDFs enable quicker onset of action, immediate drug delivery, and sometimes offer bioavailability benefits due to buccal/sublingual absorption. With time, FDDF have evolved to deliver drugs in a sustained and controlled manner. Their current market and application is increasing in demands with advances in age adapted dosage forms for different patients and changing regulatory requirements that warrant mandatory assessments of new drugs and drug products before commercial availability. This book presents detailed information about FDDFs from their inception to recent developments. Readers will learn about the technical details of various FDDF manufacturing methods, formulation aspects, evaluation and methods to conduct clinical studies. The authors also give examples of marketed fast disintegrating/dissolving drug products in US, Europe, Japan, and India. This reference is ideal for pharmacology students at all levels seeking information about this specific form of drug delivery and formulation.

Download or read book Heat Transfer written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat Transfer: Current Applications of Air Conditioning deals with problems and applications of air conditioning. The discussions are organized around non-stationary heat transfer through walls; study of confined rooms or enclosures; calculation of cooling loads; heat transfer with two-phase refrigerants; measurement of thermal conductivity and water vapour permeability of insulating materials; and tests on air handling equipment (room air-conditioners, induction or fan coil air-conditioners). This book is comprised of 60 chapters and begins with an assessment of the unit-system controversy in the United States and the quest for an ultimate resolution. The following chapters explore the resolution of conductive heat transfer problems using the finite element method; thermal behavior of composite walls under transient conditions; thermal and electrical models for solving problems of non-stationary heat transfer through walls; and use of a radiometer to measure the average temperature of a wall. Experimental results for mixed air convection along a vertical surface are also presented. This monograph will be a valuable resource for electronics engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FREEZE DRYING OF FOOD PRODUCTS An accessible guide to safely dehydrating food Freeze drying, or lyophilization, is a method for dehydrating food or other substances through the use of pressure instead of heat. This allows for the preservation and storage of high-value food products without altering their essential properties or causing a reduction in quality or value. For these reasons, freeze drying is the most reliable method for preserving and distributing high-quality products. Freeze Drying of Food Products provides a concise, accessible overview of freeze-drying techniques and their modern applications. Beginning with the basic principles and processes of freeze drying, it incorporates specific discussion of freeze-drying different categories of food products, before moving to an analysis of recent developments in freeze-drying technology. The result is a key publication in the fight to extend the shelf-life of food products and expand the distribution of high-quality freeze-dried foods. Freeze Drying of Food Products readers will also find: An editorial team with a wide range of pertinent research experience Detailed discussion of different freeze-drying processes such as vacuum drying, atmospheric drying, and spray drying Commercial applications of freeze-dried food products Freeze Drying of Food Products is ideal for researchers and industry professionals involved in food production, food distribution, or food biotechnology, as well as students studying these and other related fields.
