There is an imperative need to protect the natural reserves as per the approved norms of National Forest Policy to have a proper carbon sink for the mitigation of excess emission of greenhouse gases. Pollution is on the rise. The air and oceans are highly polluted by the presence of plastics, acids, chemicals, greenhouse gases and other elements. There are changes in the sea temperature due to El Nino and La Nina factors that cause adverse climatic conditions.

Sustainable development ensures responsible interface with the environment to minimize the depletion or degradation of natural resources and ensure long term environmental quality. It involves integrated approaches in understanding the importance of environmental management systems and policy inventions leading to improved environmental performance. The present book is proposed to address the environmental concerns associated with economic development and approaches involved to attain sustainable economic development, which include monitoring of the quality of air, deforestation, quality of water resources, soil erosion and degradation of the natural environment.

Whether is in the form of air and water pollution, deforestation and soil erosion or the extraction of natural resources itself, the fact is that developing countries are currently accounting for remarkable depletion of natural resources. It seems evident that much of the economic growth activities enforced by governments, account for significant resources depletion. Additionally, developing countries remain largely dependent on exports of natural resources to generate economic dividends. Withstanding, pulling raw material from forests to fulfill exportation needs is subject to enormous domestic and international pressure, causing overexploitation of the natural resource base. Furthermore, it is highly relevant to add that the disproportional level of resources exploitation being caused due to economic policies. Resource utilization has always been part of human history; however, the acceleration of economic growth activities together with the pursuit of an urgent economic development is the core cause of resources overexploitation. In conclusion, one may argue that economic growth and associated development usually results in increased levels of resources exploitation. However, that is not to say that an inevitable consequential relationship exists between these trends. It seems evident that developing countries pursuing rapid economic growth disregard environmental concerns.

Book excerpt: By 2050, humanity could devour an estimated 140 billion tons of minerals, ores, fossil fuels and biomass per year three times its current appetite unless the economic growth rate is decoupled from the rate of natural resource consumption. Developed countries citizens consume an average of 16 tons of those four key resources per capita (ranging up to 40 or more tons per person in some developed countries). By comparison, the average person in India today consumes four tons per year. With the growth of both population and prosperity, especially in developing countries, the prospect of much higher resource consumption levels is far beyond what is likely sustainable if realised at all given finite world resources, warns this report by UNEP's International Resource Panel. Already the world is running out of cheap and high quality sources of some essential materials such as oil, copper and gold, the supplies of which, in turn, require ever-rising volumes of fossil fuels and freshwater to produce. Improving the rate of resource productivity (doing more with less) faster than the economic growth rate is the notion behind decoupling, the panel says. That goal, however, demands an urgent rethink of the links between resource use and economic prosperity, buttressed by a massive investment in technological, financial and social innovation, to at least freeze per capita consumption in wealthy countries and help developing nations follow a more sustainable path.

Then, it's economic growth will be better in the year. Due to GDP is the country whole year income financial performance indicator. It will concern the country's economic growth level in the year.Environmental pollution is an important issue in the process of economic growth. Instance, China has obtained remarkable economic growth with an average annual growth rate of 9.6% in gross domestic product (GDP) from 1979 year to 2004 year. Despite the impressive economic performance, the environment qualities have become worse during the past two decades. China government began to concern about to following these questions: will the high economic growth be able to sustain within environmental constraints or without exceeding ecological system? What is the effect of economic growth on environment quality? Are there any tradeoff between attaining high economic growth and protecting environment? And will the environment conditions become improved automatically at higher income level? What should the government do to the environmental degradation? When environmental sustainability, due to the increasing scarcity or overuse of renewable natural resources, arisen non renewable commodities, such as fossil fuels or industrial metals which cause problems, such as water and air pollution, atmosphere or the ozone layer. Thus these bad happening(result) have cause-effect relationship between pollution and public health.
