This book was released on 1965 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of the research was to develop the technology required for the application of the continuous traveling wave concept to provide moving environment simulation of the conditions prevailing in the upper atmosphere between 300,000 and 400,000 feet altitude at velocities between 2,600 and 12,700 meters/sec. The efficient application of the travel concept to large wind tunnel facilites requires that polyphase tuned circuits be matched to appropriate power supplies and used to produce the traveling magnetic field. The design principles and prototype polyphase coil circuit and associated tuning circuitry are described in Section 3. The details of the prototype accelerator and associated power supplies are described in Section 4.

This book was released on 1963 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An electrodeless plasma accelerator is described for use in simulating re-entry environments. Principles of its operation and a technical description of its several parts are given. Descriptions are given of the gas injector, pre-ionizer, magnetic structure, and cooling devices. Only enough of the theory of the accelerator operation necessary to a general understanding of the machine is included. (Author).
Book Synopsis Reviews Of Accelerator Science And Technology - Volume 5: Applications Of Superconducting Technology To Accelerators by : Alexander Wu Chao

This book was released on 2013-01-28 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several decades major advances in accelerators have resulted from breakthroughs in accelerator science and accelerator technology. After the introduction of a new accelerator physics concept or the implementation of a new technology, a leap in accelerator performance followed. A well-known representation of these advances is the Livingston chart, which shows an exponential growth of accelerator performance over the last seven or eight decades. One of the breakthrough accelerator technologies that support this exponential growth is superconducting technology. Recognizing this major technological advance, we dedicate Volume 5 of Reviews of Accelerator Science and Technology (RAST) to superconducting technology and its applications. Two major applications are superconducting magnets (SC magnets) and superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities. SC magnets provide much higher magnetic field than their room-temperature counterparts, thus allowing accelerators to reach higher energies with comparable size as well as much reduced power consumption. SRF technology allows field energy storage for continuous wave applications and energy recovery, in addition to the advantage of tremendous power savings and better particle beam quality. In this volume, we describe both technologies and their applications. We also include discussion of the associated R&D in superconducting materials and the future prospects for these technologies.

This book was released on 1969 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on a traveling wave plasma accelerator for ultimate use as a high altitude, high velocity flow simulation device is reported. The work reported covers: the design, construction and testing of acceleration coils for field levels up to 500,000 ampere turns per meter at 100 KHz; the predicted performance of increasing phase velocity accelerators using equilibrium air at these field levels, computed numerically from the one dimensional equations of motion including friction and heat transfer; analysis of a finite accelerator having a phase velocity which increases with length; a description of model accelerator coils with velocity ratio of 2.5; and methods of eliminating losses connected with the fringing field at the ends of an accelerator coil. Earlier calculations of the performance of an accelerator with a magnetic core are also extended, and experience with extension of the operating power level of the RF plasma source is briefly discussed. Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion by : Dan M. Goebel
Download or read book Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion written by Dan M. Goebel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-22 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout most of the twentieth century, electric propulsion was considered the technology of the future. Now, the future has arrived. This important new book explains the fundamentals of electric propulsion for spacecraft and describes in detail the physics and characteristics of the two major electric thrusters in use today, ion and Hall thrusters. The authors provide an introduction to plasma physics in order to allow readers to understand the models and derivations used in determining electric thruster performance. They then go on to present detailed explanations of: Thruster principles Ion thruster plasma generators and accelerator grids Hollow cathodes Hall thrusters Ion and Hall thruster plumes Flight ion and Hall thrusters Based largely on research and development performed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and complemented with scores of tables, figures, homework problems, and references, Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion: Ion and Hall Thrusters is an indispensable textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students who are preparing to enter the aerospace industry. It also serves as an equally valuable resource for professional engineers already at work in the field.
