This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the Government Accountability Office, sustainment of weapon systems accounts for approximately 70 percent of the total life-cycle costs. When sustainment is not considered early in the development process or as an integral part of the systems engineering design, it can negatively affect the ability of the Air Force to maintain and improve the weapon system once it enters service. At the request of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, Weapons Systems Sustainment Planning Early in the Development Life Cycle identifies at what point or phase of the development of a weapons system sustainment planning should be integrated into the program; examines and provides recommendations regarding how sustainment planning should be evaluated throughout the development process; investigates and describes the current challenges with sustainment planning and determines what changes have occurred throughout the acquisition process that may have eroded sustainment planning; and identifies opportunities for acquisitions offices to gain greater access to sustainment expertise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the project is to explore the relationship of the computer software subsystem to the overall system undergoing acquisition. A brief history of digital computers in weapons system is presented and current DOD and Air Force management policies are presented. The development approach of four Air Force Programs is discussed and selected life cycle development and maintenance guidelines are discussed. Numerous recommendations for use by the Program/System Manager in managing a software development effort are identified for selective application. A large bibliography of thirty-nine readings is presented on the subject. (Author).

Book excerpt: This study focuses primarily on a comparison of test-phase results with the subsequent operational experience of the A-7D attack aircraft to determine when component reliability and maintenance problems were revealed, what kinds of problems showed up in the various stages of the weapon-System life cycle, and the impact these problems had on operational availability and operating cost. It is found that earlier correction of critical problems should reduce operational and maintenance costs and increase the capability of the system enough to permit a net improvement in the overall capability life-cycle cost of the system. An extended, comprehensive initial Operational Test and Evaluation would allow identification of additional reliability and maintenance problems. A better approach to development of avionics components and related software is needed. Finally, data systems should be improved as necessary and exploited more fully.

Download or read book Life Cycle Training Cost Model written by J. R. Skeen and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training costs have been and increasing contributor to the life cycle costs of military weapon systems. As the concepts of training has broadended and alternative approaches to training have become available through the development of new technologies, the difficulties of determining and projecting training costs have increased. The objective of this effort was to develop a model for determining the cost of all training activities required to support a Navy weapon system during its entire life cycle. The weapon system life cycle phases and their associated training requirements were examined. To organize the many kinds of training was chosen for a model. The unit was the single iteration of a course defined as a three-dimensional matrix whose axes are course (development) phases, training activities, and cost elements. This course was then expanded across iterations and modifications in its evolution through the life cycle of the weapon system. The purpose of the cost model is to identify those training elements having significant cost implications for initial and follow-on hardware system training. Through the use of such a model, training costs can be predicted and used in early-effectiveness assessment studies to assess more accurately the cost implications of alternative hardware systems.

Doro-on and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-27 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides multifaceted components and full practical perspectives of systems engineering and risk management in security and defense operations with a focus on infrastructure and manpower control systems, missile design, space technology, satellites, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and space security. While there are many existing selections of systems engineering and risk management textbooks, there is no existing work that connects systems engineering and risk management concepts to solidify its usability in the entire security and defense actions. With this book Dr. Anna M. Doro-on rectifies the current imbalance. She provides a comprehensive overview of systems engineering and risk management before moving to deeper practical engineering principles integrated with newly developed concepts and examples based on industry and government methodologies. The chapters also cover related points including design principles for defeating and deactivating improvised explosive devices and land mines and security measures against kinds of threats. The book is designed for systems engineers in practice, political risk professionals, managers, policy makers, engineers in other engineering fields, scientists, decision makers in industry and government and to serve as a reference work in systems engineering and risk management courses with focus on security and defense operations.
Book Synopsis Life Cycle Cost Guide for Major Weapon Systems by : NAVAL WEAPONS ENGINEERING SUPPORT ACTIVITY WASHINGTON DC.
Download or read book Life Cycle Cost Guide for Major Weapon Systems written by NAVAL WEAPONS ENGINEERING SUPPORT ACTIVITY WASHINGTON DC. and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document provides guidance for preparing life cycle cost estimates of major weapon systems. It provides a framework for objective comparison of research and development, investment, and operating and support costs of program, design or support alternatives, using consistent methodologies and terminology. A suggested cost breakdown structure (CBS) is presented, a general methodology for life cycle cost-estimating is described, and a description of the FLEX computer program used to facilitate the computations is provided. The guidance presented herein is intended to aid in achieving a consistent framework for estimating life cycle costs of major weapon systems. The material contained in this document should be considered a guide - an update of the Naval Material Command Life Cycle Cost Guide for Major Weapons Systems originally published 1 January 1977 - not a rigid specification for Life Cycle Cost analysis.
