Download or read book Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems written by Roberto Tempo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-21 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The presence of uncertainty in a system description has always been a critical issue in control. The main objective of Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems, with Applications (Second Edition) is to introduce the reader to the fundamentals of probabilistic methods in the analysis and design of systems subject to deterministic and stochastic uncertainty. The approach propounded by this text guarantees a reduction in the computational complexity of classical control algorithms and in the conservativeness of standard robust control techniques. The second edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect recent research and new applications with chapters on statistical learning theory, sequential methods for control and the scenario approach being completely rewritten. Features: · self-contained treatment explaining Monte Carlo and Las Vegas randomized algorithms from their genesis in the principles of probability theory to their use for system analysis; · development of a novel paradigm for (convex and nonconvex) controller synthesis in the presence of uncertainty and in the context of randomized algorithms; · comprehensive treatment of multivariate sample generation techniques, including consideration of the difficulties involved in obtaining identically and independently distributed samples; · applications of randomized algorithms in various endeavours, such as PageRank computation for the Google Web search engine, unmanned aerial vehicle design (both new in the second edition), congestion control of high-speed communications networks and stability of quantized sampled-data systems. Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems (second edition) is certain to interest academic researchers and graduate control students working in probabilistic, robust or optimal control methods and control engineers dealing with system uncertainties. The present book is a very timely contribution to the literature. I have no hesitation in asserting that it will remain a widely cited reference work for many years. M. Vidyasagar

Book Synopsis Robust Control of Uncertain Dynamic Systems by : Rama K. Yedavalli
Download or read book Robust Control of Uncertain Dynamic Systems written by Rama K. Yedavalli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-05 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook aims to provide a clear understanding of the various tools of analysis and design for robust stability and performance of uncertain dynamic systems. In model-based control design and analysis, mathematical models can never completely represent the “real world” system that is being modeled, and thus it is imperative to incorporate and accommodate a level of uncertainty into the models. This book directly addresses these issues from a deterministic uncertainty viewpoint and focuses on the interval parameter characterization of uncertain systems. Various tools of analysis and design are presented in a consolidated manner. This volume fills a current gap in published works by explicitly addressing the subject of control of dynamic systems from linear state space framework, namely using a time-domain, matrix-theory based approach. This book also: Presents and formulates the robustness problem in a linear state space model framework. Illustrates various systems level methodologies with examples and applications drawn from aerospace, electrical and mechanical engineering. Provides connections between lyapunov-based matrix approach and the transfer function based polynomial approaches. Robust Control of Uncertain Dynamic Systems: A Linear State Space Approach is an ideal book for first year graduate students taking a course in robust control in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.

Book Synopsis Deterministic and Stochastic Time-Delay Systems by : El-Kebir Boukas
Download or read book Deterministic and Stochastic Time-Delay Systems written by El-Kebir Boukas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most practical processes such as chemical reactor, industrial furnace, heat exchanger, etc., are nonlinear stochastic systems, which makes their con trol in general a hard problem. Currently, there is no successful design method for this class of systems in the literature. One common alterna tive consists of linearizing the nonlinear dynamical stochastic system in the neighborhood of an operating point and then using the techniques for linear systems to design the controller. The resulting model is in general an approximation of the real behavior of a dynamical system. The inclusion of the uncertainties in the model is therefore necessary and will certainly improve the performance of the dynamical system we want to control. The control of uncertain systems has attracted a lot of researchers from the control community. This topic has in fact dominated the research effort of the control community during the last two decades, and many contributions have been reported in the literature. Some practical dynamical systems have time delay in their dynamics, which makes their control a complicated task even in the deterministic case. Recently, the class ofuncertain dynamical deterministic systems with time delay has attracted some researchers, and some interesting results have been reported in both deterministic and stochastic cases. But wecan't claim that the control problem ofthis class ofsystems is completely solved; more work must be done for this class of systems.

Book Synopsis Linear Matrix Inequalities in System and Control Theory by : Stephen Boyd
Download or read book Linear Matrix Inequalities in System and Control Theory written by Stephen Boyd and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors reduce a wide variety of problems arising in system and control theory to a handful of convex and quasiconvex optimization problems that involve linear matrix inequalities. These optimization problems can be solved using recently developed numerical algorithms that not only are polynomial-time but also work very well in practice; the reduction therefore can be considered a solution to the original problems. This book opens up an important new research area in which convex optimization is combined with system and control theory, resulting in the solution of a large number of previously unsolved problems.

Book Synopsis Robustness in Identification and Control by : M. Milanese
Download or read book Robustness in Identification and Control written by M. Milanese and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects most of the papers presented at the International Workshop on Robustness in Identification and Control, held in Torino (Italy) in 1988. The main focal point of the workshop was Unknown But Bounded uncertainty and associated robustness issues in identification and control. Recent years have seen a growing interest in studying models which include un known but bounded uncertainty. The motivation for dealing with such models is derived from robustness considerations. In many applications, some performance specification must be met for all admissible variations of the uncertain parameters. A second motivation for models with this type of uncertainty stems from the fact that the statistical description of uncertain variables may not be well known or even not suitable. For example, in some cases, only a small number of measurements is available and the resulting errors are due to analog-digital conversion, modelling ap proximation or round-off, so that a statistical description may actually be unreliable. The interest in unknown but bounded setting is certainly not new. In fact, en gineering practice demands for appropriate algorithms in dealing with finite sample properties, finite parameter variations, tolerance analysis, etc. Despite the natural need for such methods, the lack of sufficiently well assessed theoretical results and algorithms prevented a systematic use of these procedures until recent years. How ever, in the last few years, important advances have been made both in estimation theory and in stability analysis.
Book Synopsis Mechanics and Control by : R.S. Guttalu
Download or read book Mechanics and Control written by R.S. Guttalu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop on Control Mechanics has been held at the University of South ern California annually since 1988 under the leadership of late Professor Janislaw M. Skowronski. The primary goal of Professor Skowronski in organizing this series of work shops was to promote the use of advanced mechanics method in control theory with a special emphasis on the control of nonlinear mechanical systems subject to uncertainty. This goal has been achieved through a consistent participation of a large number of researchers in the field of control and mechanics and an intensive exchange of their ideas. Professor Skowronski passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 1992, after the conclusion of the Fifth Workshop. The great success of the Fifth Workshop as well as the entire Control Mechanics Workshops over the years is almost exclusively due to his dedication, enthusiasm, and organizational capabilities. His untimely demise is a great loss to us and to the mechanics and control community. The proceedings of the Fifth Workshop presented in this volume are dedicated to Professor Angelo Miele, one of the pioneers and ,a leading contributor in many fields of control theory and its applications. His contribution spans a wide range of topics such as optimization theory, flight mechanics, astrodynamics, ocean engineering, and numerical methods. The presentations in the workshop reflected many of the areas in which Professor Miele has been active. The papers included in this volume are divided into three major groups of topics.
