Book Synopsis Determinants of Innovation by : Alfred Kleinknecht
Download or read book Determinants of Innovation written by Alfred Kleinknecht and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-11-08 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micro-econometric analyses cover a wide range of new innovation 'input' and 'output' indicators. Among the robust findings about determinants of innovation is evidence on the importance of technological opportunity, of appropriability of innovation benefits, and of Schmooklerian demand-pull effects. As opposed to the evidence from standard R&D data, small firms appear more innovative and the impact of market power on innovation is, in the best case, modest.
Book Synopsis Managing Corporate Innovation by : Adalberto Rangone
Download or read book Managing Corporate Innovation written by Adalberto Rangone and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-14 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes a valuable contribution to innovation management in the form of an interdisciplinary analysis of contemporary international approaches. By introducing the concept of a 'techno-corporate gap,' it also highlights the crucial role that companies play in creating and managing innovation in order to increase (or decrease) the technological gap between countries, and in their economic development. The originality of the book lies in its systems thinking oriented approach to the techno-corporate gap and technological gap, and their relation to corporate governance. These aspects are analyzed in detail, and not merely from an economic standpoint, but also with regard to innovativeness and regional social development.

Book Synopsis Wealth from Knowledge by : J. Langrish
Download or read book Wealth from Knowledge written by J. Langrish and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 1972-01-19 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on a study of 84 technological innovations that won Queen's Awards in 1966 and 1967. Nearly 40 of these are presented as well-documented but readable case histories. The topics range from new antibiotics to fast patrol boats, from an improved way of making bread to aircraft equipment, from new building materials and techniques to scientific instruments, from automatic gearboxes to guided missiles. Many points of interest are covered in the discussion. Is innovation more often 'pushed' by scientific or technological discoveries or more often 'pulled' by the needs of the market or of management? Is is true that outstanding individuals are necessary for success? Is it true that the time-lag between discovery and exploitations is shortening? Can one specify optimum sizes for research teams? What is the role of basic reseach? These are some of the issues raised in the course of a wide-ranging discussion of factors affecting technological innovation.

Book Synopsis Determinants of Innovative Activity in Canadian Manufacturing Firms by : John R. Baldwin
Download or read book Determinants of Innovative Activity in Canadian Manufacturing Firms written by John R. Baldwin and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines how several factors contribute to innovative activity in the Canadian manufacturing sector. First, it investigates the extent to which intellectual property right protection stimulates innovation. Second, it examines the contribution that R&D makes to innovation. Third, it considers the importance of various competencies in the area of marketing, human resource, technology and production to the innovation process. Fourth, it examines the extent to which a larger firm size and less competition serve to stimulate competition-the so-called Schumpeterian hypothesis. Fifth, the effect of the nationality of a firm on innovation is also investigated. Finally, the paper examines the effect of an industry's environment on a firm's ability to innovate. Several findings are of note. First, the relationship between innovation and patent use is found to be much stronger going from innovation to patent use than from patent use to innovation. Firms that innovate take out patents; but firms and industries that make more intensive use of patents do not tend to produce more innovations. Second, while R&D is important, developing capabilities in other areas, such as technological competency and marketing, is also important. Third, size effects are significant. The largest firms tend to be more innovative. As for competition, intermediate levels of competition are the most conducive to innovation. Fourth, foreign-controlled firms are not significantly more likely to innovate than domestic-controlled firms once differences in competencies have been taken into account. Fifth, the scientific infrastructure provided by university research is a significant determinant of innovation.

Book Synopsis Innovation and Scaling for Impact by : Christian Seelos
Download or read book Innovation and Scaling for Impact written by Christian Seelos and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2017-01-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovation and Scaling for Impact forces us to reassess how social sector organizations create value. Drawing on a decade of research, Christian Seelos and Johanna Mair transcend widely held misconceptions, getting to the core of what a sound impact strategy entails in the nonprofit world. They reveal an overlooked nexus between investments that might not pan out (innovation) and expansion based on existing strengths (scaling). In the process, it becomes clear that managing this tension is a difficult balancing act that fundamentally defines an organization and its impact. The authors examine innovation pathologies that can derail organizations by thwarting their efforts to juggle these imperatives. Then, through four rich case studies, they detail innovation archetypes that effectively sidestep these pathologies and blend innovation with scaling. Readers will come away with conceptual models to drive progress in the social sector and tools for defining the future of their organizations.
