Dans le premier chapitre les principes fondamentaux de l'analyse en composantes principales linéaire sont présentés. L'ACP est utilisée pour la modélisation des processus en fonctionnement normal. Dans le deuxième chapitre le problème de détection et localisation de défauts par ACP linéaire est abordé. A partir de l'analyse des indices de détection classiques, un nouvel indice de détection de défaut basé sur les dernières composantes principales a été développé. Pour la localisation de défauts, les méthodes classiques, utilisant par exemple le principe de reconstruction ou encore le calcul des contributions à l'indice de détection, ont été adaptées à l'indice de détection proposé. Le troisième chapitre est consacré à l'ACP non-linéaire (ACPNL). Une extension de l'ACP pour des systèmes non-linéaires, combinant l'algorithme des courbes principales et les réseaux RBF, est proposée. Pour la détermination du nombre de composantes à retenir dans le modèle ACPNL, une extension du critère basé sur la variance de l'erreur de reconstruction a été proposée. Une application réalisée dans le cadre d'une collaboration avec le réseau de surveillance de la qualité de l'air en Lorraine AIRLOR fait l'objet du quatrième chapitre. Cette application concerne, la détection et la localisation de défauts de capteurs de ce réseau en utilisant la procédure de détection et de localisation développée dans le cas linéaire.

Initialement conçue pour analyser les données liées par des relations linéaires, l'Analyse en Composantes Principales (ACP) est couplée aux méthodes à noyau pour détecter, localiser et estimer l'amplitude des défauts sur des systèmes non linéaires. L'ACP à noyau consiste à projeter les données par l'intermédiaire d'une application non linéaire dans un espace de dimension élevée dénommé espace des caractéristiques où l'ACP linéaire est appliquée. Ayant fait la projection à l'aide de noyaux, la détection peut facilement être réalisée dans l'espace des caractéristiques. Cependant, l'estimation de l'amplitude du défaut nécessite la résolution d'un problème d'optimisation non linéaire. Une étude de contributions permet de localiser et d'estimer ces amplitudes. La variable ayant la plus grande contribution est susceptible d'être affectée par un défaut. Dans notre travail, nous avons proposé de nouvelles méthodes pour les phases de localisation et d'estimation des défauts pour lesquelles les travaux existants ont des limites. La nouvelle méthode proposée est basée sur les contributions sous contraintes permettant d'obtenir une reconstruction parcimonieuse des variables. L'efficacité des méthodes proposées est montrée sur un réacteur à agitation continue (CSTR).

Computation of the principal components reduces to the solution of an eigenvalue-eigenvector problem for a positive-semidefinite symmetrie matrix. Thus, the definition and computation of principal components are straightforward but, as will be seen, this apparently simple technique has a wide variety of different applications, as weIl as a number of different deri vations. Any feelings that principal component analysis is a narrow subject should soon be dispelled by the present book; indeed some quite broad topics which are related to principal component analysis receive no more than a brief mention in the final two chapters.

Book excerpt: This superb text describes a novel and powerful method for allowing design engineers to firstly model a linear problem in heat conduction, then build a solution in an explicit form and finally obtain a numerical solution. It constitutes a modelling and calculation tool based on a very efficient and systemic methodological approach. Solving the heat equations through integral transforms does not constitute a new subject. However, finding a solution generally constitutes only one part of the problem. In design problems, an initial thermal design has to be tested through the calculation of the temperature or flux field, followed by an analysis of this field in terms of constraints. A modified design is then proposed, followed by a new thermal field calculation, and so on until the right design is found. The thermal quadrupole method allows this often painful iterative procedure to be removed by allowing only one calculation. The chapters in this book increase in complexity from a rapid presentation of the method for one dimensional transient problems in chapter one, to non uniform boundary conditions or inhomogeneous media in chapter six. In addition, a wide range of corrected problems of contemporary interest are presented mainly in chapters three and six with their numerical implementation in MATLAB (r) language. This book covers the whole scope of linear problems and presents a wide range of concrete issues of contemporary interest such as harmonic excitations of buildings, transfer in composite media, thermal contact resistance and moving material heat transfer. Extensions of this method to coupled transfers in a semi-transparent medium and to mass transfer in porous media are considered respectively in chapters seven and eight. Chapter nine is devoted to practical numerical methods that can be used to inverse the Laplace transform. Written from an engineering perspective, with applications to real engineering problems, this book will be of significant interest not only to researchers, lecturers and graduate students in mechanical engineering (thermodynamics) and process engineers needing to model a heat transfer problem to obtain optimized operating conditions, but also to researchers interested in the simulation or design of experiments where heat transfer play a significant role.
