This book was released on 2021-01-23 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the advances in mine hydrogeology in terms of the development of new technologies and sustainable mining to prevent water inrush disasters during coal-mine construction and production in China. It presents holistic topics that balance safe coal mining and the minimization of impacts on the environment and human beings. Systematically describing the methods and techniques used in China’s coal mines to predict, prevent and mitigate water inrushes, it includes nine case studies to illustrate the practical engineering solutions using state-of-art methods and technologies under various conditions. It also discusses how the approaches could help solve the world’s water problems, not only in mining, but also in tunneling, disposing of nuclear waste, storing natural gas, and sequestering CO2, as well as their impact on mining industries and related fields around the world. The book intended for students, researchers and practitioners working in the mining industries.
Book Synopsis Design of Stainless-steel and Aluminum Slide Gates Based on a Combined Analytical and Finite Element Approach by : Sufian H. Natsheh
Download or read book Design of Stainless-steel and Aluminum Slide Gates Based on a Combined Analytical and Finite Element Approach written by Sufian H. Natsheh and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slide gates, also known as sluice gates, are commonly used in treatment plants and water channels to control water flow under different conditions (depth, size, supports, etc.). These gates need to resist stresses and deformations caused by water pressure and prevent leakage. The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has prepared standards that guide structural gate designers with certain safety and operational requirements. In particular, AWWA produced C561-14 standard [1] for fabricated stainless-steel slide gates, and C562-14 standard [2] for fabricated aluminum slide gates. These two standards provide minimum requirements for vertical mounted fabricated stainless-steel and aluminum gates that include material, design, manufacturing, testing and inspection, respectively. WACO incorporated is one of the leading manufacturer of fabricated metals, which include marine, environmental and industrial products. Part of their environmental products are slide gates for treatment plants. To increase the accuracy and efficiency of its slide gate design, a detailed structural review for each gate component/part is needed. Hence, analytical and finite element analyses are required. In this study, a programmed tool has been developed inside the "Visual Basic for Application" (VBA) environment to analyze stresses/forces in each of the gate's components and compare them with their strength capacity. The tool's calculations are based on simplified static stress/forces analyses for each structural element of the gate, starting with the gate's plate, to weldment and mounting. The tool is also capable of comparing the factors of safety of each critical section with the corresponding required factors of safety from design guides and manufacturer specifications. Moreover, the tool provides charts for preliminary sizing of gates for application engineers.
