Book Synopsis Protein-protein Recognition by : Colin Kleanthous
Download or read book Protein-protein Recognition written by Colin Kleanthous and published by Frontiers in Molecular Biology. This book was released on 2000 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of Protein-Protein Recognition is to bring together concepts and systems pertaining to protein-protein interactions in a single unifying volume. In the light of the information from the genome sequencing projects and the increase in structural information it is an opportune time totry to make generalizations about how and why proteins form complexes with each other. The emphasis of the book is on heteromeric complexes (complexes in which each of the components can exist in an unbound state) and will use well-studied model systems to explain the processes of formingcomplexes. After an introductory section on the kinetics, thermodynamics, analysis, and classification of protein-protein interactions, weak, intermediate, and high affinity complexes are dealt with in turn. Weak affinity complexes are represented by electron transfer proteins and integrincomplexes. Anti-lysozyme antibodies, the MHC proteins and their interactions with T-cell receptors, and the protein interactions of eukaryotic signal transduction are the systems used to explain complexes with intermediate affinities. Finally, tight binding complexes are represented by theinteraction of protein inhibitors with serine proteases and by nuclease inhibitor complexes. Throughout the chapters common themes are the technologies which have had the greatest impact, how specificity is determined, how complexes are stabilized, and medical and industrial applications.
Book Synopsis Structure Correlation by : Hans-Beat Bürgi
Download or read book Structure Correlation written by Hans-Beat Bürgi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 936 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book leaves the conventional view of chemical structures far behind: it demonstrates how a wealth of valuable, but hitherto unused information can be extracted from available structural data. For example, a single structure determination does not reveal much about a reaction pathway, but a sufficiently large number of comparable structures does. Finding the 'right' question is as important as is the intelligent use of crystallographic databases. Contributions by F.H. Allen, T.L. Blundell, I.D. Brown, H.B. Bürgi, J.D. Dunitz, L. Leiserowitz and others, authoritatively discuss the structure correlation method as well as illustrative results in detail, covering such apparently unrelated subjects as * Bond strength relations in soldis * Crystal structure prediction * Reaction pathways of organic molecules * Ligand/receptor interactions and enzyme mechanisms This book will be useful to the academic and industrial reader alike. It offers both fundamental aspects and diverse applications of what will surely become a powerful branch of structural chemistry.

Book Synopsis Synthesis and Characterization of Glycosides by : Marco Brito-Arias
Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Glycosides written by Marco Brito-Arias and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-22 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition is a comprehensive and extended study about the best known approaches for preparing the main types of glycosides, covering the classic and more recent glycosylation reactions used for preparing simple and challenging glycosides currently used as potent antiviral and antineoplastic drugs, or fluorogenic substrates used for enzymatic detection in cell biology. Besides, this new edition provides more examples of the glycosidic methodologies followed for preparing complex glycoconjugates such as glycoproteins and glycosphingolipids and gangliosides used as adjuvants or as synthetic vaccines candidates. Also, additional mechanistic evidence is presented for better understanding of the glycosylation reaction, trying to identify the variables mainly depending on protecting and leaving groups, as well as catalyst and reaction condition which altogether directs the anomeric stereo control. A chapter on the glycoside hydrolysis is included in view of the increasing interest in the use of biomass as a natural and renewable source for obtaining important intermediates or products used in food or valuable materials. The author includes information in the characterization of glycosides section with the aim of giving additional tools for the structural assignment through NMR, X-Ray and mass spectra techniques.
