Book Synopsis Design, Analysis, and Construction of EBR-II Primary Tank and Associated Structures by : R. W. Seidensticker
Download or read book Design, Analysis, and Construction of EBR-II Primary Tank and Associated Structures written by R. W. Seidensticker and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The entire EBR-II primary coolant system and fuel-handling system are submerged in about 80,000 gallons of sodium at 700 degrees F, all contained in a large double-walled vessel (primary tank). This report describes in detail the design, fabrication, and erection of the primary tank and its support structure. Special features of the design peculiar to this system are emphasized, particularly the fabrication and erection of the several large machined weldments employed in the system. Design philosophy for the structural system is developed, and typical design calculations presented. The thermal deformations of the primary tank at elevated temperatures are treated theoretically. Elevated temperature tests performed both before and after filling the tank with sodium are described, and test results summarized. The thermal design of the primary tank is discussed.

Book Synopsis The Physics Design of the EBR-II by : W. B. Loewenstein
Download or read book The Physics Design of the EBR-II written by W. B. Loewenstein and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics design problems of the EBR-II are summarized. These include analysis of the EBR-II engineering design as well as applicable zero-power critical experiments. Pertinent reactor safety problems are reviewed. Safety considerations bearing on normal plant operation and manipulations within the reactor are emphasized. The implication of controlled in-pile meltdown experiments is considered. Irradiation damage and metallurgical phase phenomena are summarized and related to reactivity. The nuclear performance of the system is considered in terms of actual plant operation. The predicted shift of both power and reactivity from core to radial reflector is described.

Download or read book The Design and Construction of the EBR-II Initial Fuel Loading Facility written by James E. Ayer and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for the first core for EBR-II resulted in the design and construction of the Initial Fuel Loading Facility for this reactor. The plant was built to provide the required initial loading, to train personnel, and to test prototype equipment for the remote reprocessing of fuel materials in the EBR- II Fuel Cycle Facility. The facilities include: remotely manipulated melting, casting, and pin processing equipment, a degreaser, hoods and their atmospheric control system, a gas-purification system, fuel-element-assembly equipment, mold- preparation and balance room, bonding furnaces, a maintenance shop, and a change area.

Download or read book Experimental Breeder Reactor-II (EBR-II) written by Leonard J. Koch and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Koch, former manager of the Experimental Breeder Reactor-II (EBR-II), offers a first-hand account of the development, design, construction, and initial operation of this facility, which has contributed to the foundation of knowledge for all fast reactors. He explains why certain design choices were made while others were rejected. He also outlines how he thinks that future sodium cooled fast reactors should be designed, based on the experience gained with EBR-II. An appendix traces the lineage of EBR-II, including original memos and meeting notes, beginning with Enrico Fermi and Walter Zinn and progressing to the formation of the EBR-II project. B&w photos and illustrations are included. The book is of interest to designers of future fast reactors. There is no subject index.

Download or read book EBR-II written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Breeder Reactor II (EBR-II) has been operating for nearly 20 years as part of the foundation of the US Department of Energy's LMFBR development program. During that time, the EBR-II fuel-handling system has performed extremely well, especially considering the conditions under which much of the system operates and the reliability required to maintain the high plant factor routinely demonstrated by EBR-II. Since EBR-II is a pool-type reactor, much of the fuel handling is done remotely within the sodium-filled primary tank at 371°C. Activities involved in locating a misplaced fuel subassembly in the primary tank are described.
