Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The applied research indicates that, to improve awareness, park education programs should be targeted specifically to the user groups primarily through outreach programs. Further, the Park's management programs should be highlighted, particularly the beneficial, tangible products and services (benefits) the Park provides to each user group... The closer the tie between reef conditions and business earnings, the greater the users' support for reef conservation." Coral reefs are sometimes referred to as "canaries of the sea" because of their early warning ability to show near-shore oceanic stress. Because of their biological diversity, they are also called "rainforests of the sea." Coral reefs are vital to the well being of millions of people. Coral reef managers and government officials trying to save their valuable national resources have turned to research on coral reefs for help. The research presented in this publication merits a great deal of notice because the output is useful for decision support and training tools in integrated coastal zone management (ICZM). The work on cost-effectiveness analysis has developed integrated economic and ecological models, relying extensively on fuzzy logic procedures to model impacts and effects of interventions within the reef environment. By contrast, the marine system valuation work provides economic valuations of coral reefs, demonstrating the use of different modeling methods and treating key policy issues within this context. This publication will interest coastal zone experts and managers worldwide

Book excerpt: This guide aims to provide practical tools to non specialists-essentially water resources planners, river basin managers, non-governmental organizations and private sector operators. It links the most recent practice on payments for hydrological services to current discourse on integrated water resources management and looks into the different aspects to consider when exploring the potential feasibility of establishing reward or payments for ecosystem services related to water security. Pay demystifies concepts and jargon, and through a series of tools, case studies and stories from around the world, describes pitfalls to avoid and provides hints to fill gaps in knowledge. It is based on a demand-driven approach, linking text, tools and illustrations to key questions emerging from current and potential practitioners.

This book was released on 2023-02-02 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the evolution of the construction systems and the required materials in Ecuador from 1980 to 2020, from different perspectives including environmental, economic, thermal behaviour, modulation design, and integrity of construction. It focuses on the relationship between energy and the evolution of construction in the Andean region of Ecuador. The theoretical framework of the book shows the extent of quantitative data collected from several sources and experimental data from studies carried out in local buildings. It gives a heritage-environmental perspective of building materials from Cuenca city, which has received the nomination of Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This book will help construction industry professionals, architects, and designers to make sustainable decisions for future construction, focused on different components of a building. Readers can extract a set of guidelines aimed at solving thermal, environmental, aesthetic, and even heritage issues of the construction sector of this region, from the specific perspective of building materials.
