Download or read book Krise und Zukunft des Sozialstaates written by Christoph Butterwegge and published by VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften. This book was released on 2005-10-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Spell of Responsibility by : Frieder Vogelmann
Download or read book The Spell of Responsibility written by Frieder Vogelmann and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people would agree that we should behave and act in a responsible way. Yet only 200 years ago, ‘responsibility’ was only of marginal importance in discussions of law and legal practice, and it had little ethical significance. What is the significance of the fact that ‘responsibility’ now plays such a central role in, for example, work, the welfare state, or the criminal justice system? What happens when individuals are generally expected to think of themselves as ‘responsible’ agents? And what are the consequences of the fact that the philosophical analysis of ‘responsibility’ focuses almost exclusively on conditions of agency that are mostly absent from real life? In this book, Frieder Vogelmann demonstrates how large parts of philosophy have fallen under responsibility’s spell, and he uses a Foucauldian approach in an attempt to break it. The three axes of power, knowledge, and self are used in a detailed analysis of the practical regimes of labour (including the welfare state), criminality (including policing, punishment practices, and criminal proceedings), and philosophy, and of the two subject positions required by ‘responsibility’ – those of the attributors and bearers of responsibility – within them. The power relations between these positions, which Vogelmann carefully excavates from the grounds of our practices, reveal that the deck is stacked unevenly from the start. Book Synopsis A World of Populations by : Heinrich Hartmann
Download or read book A World of Populations written by Heinrich Hartmann and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demographic study and the idea of a “population” was developed and modified over the course of the twentieth century, mirroring the political, social, and cultural situations and aspirations of different societies. This growing field adapted itself to specific policy concerns and was therefore never apolitical, despite the protestations of practitioners that demography was “natural.” Demographics were transformed into public policies that shaped family planning, population growth, medical practice, and environmental conservation. While covering a variety of regions and time periods, the essays in this book share an interest in the transnational dynamics of emerging demographic discourses and practices. Together, they present a global picture of the history of demographic knowledge.
Book Synopsis Wirtschaft, Demokratie und soziale Verantwortung by : Wolfgang G. Weber
Download or read book Wirtschaft, Demokratie und soziale Verantwortung written by Wolfgang G. Weber and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2004 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
