Book Synopsis The Shadows of Type by : Angelina Bennet
Download or read book The Shadows of Type written by Angelina Bennet and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychological type systems such as the Myers-Briggs® are incredibly useful in helping people to improve their self-awareness and awareness of others. However the current models do not explain how well somebody uses their type, why two people of the same type can differ greatly in their effectiveness, or how we can maximise the potential of our type? The ‘Shadows of Type’ model provides the answers to these questions by placing psychological type back into its original Jungian context, ‘upgrading’ this to set it within the psychosynthesis model, and then combining it with ego development theory. This leads to detailed descriptions of the 16 psychological types through seven levels of ego development. Using the suggested coaching techniques and applications, individuals can gain more insight into how they are using their type and the traps that they can fall into, and coaches are enabled to work with psychological type developmentally, transformationally and transpersonally.
Book Synopsis The Book of Light by : Lucille Clifton
Download or read book The Book of Light written by Lucille Clifton and published by Copper Canyon Press. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a powerful introduction by Ross Gay and a moving afterword by Sidney Clifton, this special anniversary edition of The Book of Light offers new meditations and insights on one of the most beloved voices of the 20th century. Though The Book of Light opens with thirty-nine names for light, we soon learn the most meaningful name is Lucille—daughter, mother, proud Black woman. Known for her ability to convey multitudes in few words, Clifton writes into the shadows—her father’s violations, a Black neighborhood bombed, death, loss—all while illuminating the full spectrum of human emotion: grief and celebration, anger and joy, empowerment and so much grace. A meeting place of myth and the Divine, The Book of Light exists “between starshine and clay” as Clifton’s personas allow us to bear the world’s weight with Atlas and witness conversations between Lucifer and God. While names and dates mark this text as a social commentary responding to her time, it is haunting how easily this collection serves as a political palimpsest of today. We leave these poems inspired—Clifton shows us Superman is not our hero. Our hero is the Black female narrator who decides to live. And what a life she creates! “Won’t you celebrate with me?”

Download or read book Shadow-Makers written by Stephen Kite and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The making of shadows is an act as old as architecture itself. From the gloom of the medieval hearth through to the masterworks of modernism, shadows have been an essential yet neglected presence in architectural history. Shadow-Makers tells for the first time the history of shadows in architecture. It weaves together a rich narrative – combining close readings of significant buildings both ancient and modern with architectural theory and art history – to reveal the key places and moments where shadows shaped architecture in distinctive and dynamic ways. It shows how shadows are used as an architectural instrument of form, composition, and visual effect, while also exploring the deeper cultural context – tracing differing conceptions of their meaning and symbolism, whether as places of refuge, devotion, terror, occult practice, sublime experience or as metaphors of the unconscious. Within a chronological framework encompassing medieval, baroque, enlightenment, sublime, picturesque, and modernist movements, a wide range of topics are explored, from Hawksmoor's London churches, Japanese temple complexes and the shade-patterns of Islamic cities, to Ruskin in Venice and Aldo Rossi and Louis Kahn in the 20th century. This beautifully-illustrated study seeks to understand the work of these shadow-makers through their drawings, their writings, and through the masterpieces they built.
