Book excerpt: In this breakneck thriller, the New York Times–bestselling author introduces Mossad agent David Morton—a man as dangerous as the terrorists he hunts. In the aftermath of the 1990-1991 Gulf War, a megalomaniac terrorist holds the world hostage, threatening to poison every major city with a deadly virus. He has the means—a form of anthrax capable of wiping out millions in minutes—and demonstrates its potency by adding a small vial of it to the drinking water in a small South African town, killing all of the inhabitants. With only seven days to meet his demands, the world’s leaders call on David Morton, a brilliant and ruthless Mossad agent. The result is a tense global chase, leading from China to Athens, London, Libya, South Africa, Tel Aviv, and New York, drawing good and evil closer and closer in a battle to the death. Deadly Perfume penetrates the real world of intelligence-gathering to reveal its secret subculture, with its hidden loyalties and agendas. Gordon Thomas has imagined a world so terrifyingly real that it poses the question, Is it imagined at all? “[A] horribly convincing thriller . . . Intelligence agent David Morton deals with the psychodynamics of terrorism, with modern technology at his fingertips and the ears of Western politicians at his command. I was left hoping that we have some real Mortons at our disposal.” —Daily Mail

Download or read book Deadly Paradise written by Kate Valery and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2007-10-16 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel DEADLY PARADISE tells about obsessive love, hatred and the power struggle between the wealthy and powerful Blue Creek Condominium president, Mr. Robert Howards, and the simple, but attractive, Russian immigrant caretaker, Nina. The book is set in a first class high-rise building in Pittsburgh, PA. It is the backdrop for the gripping and frantic story of Rob and Nina's relationship. Intertwined, as well, are the stories of the staff and residents who live in the building. The novel explores many human emotions as well as a variety of characters. The adventures in the narrative include: stories of immigrant life, a struggle with cancer, pure love as contrasted with horrible sadistic love, abuse and harassment. The main dramaturgic line is the deep psychological tragedy and sufferings of a tyrannical man, who was a dictator ruling the kingdom of slaves. Rob finds his only true love in a woman from another culture, a different social class and a completely opposite character. But she keeps him at arms length and unconsciously completely ruined his kingdom which everyone hates and scares. Nina doesn't rebel openly against the oppressive atmosphere, but seeks freedom and democracy in her own way, by living and enjoying her life and singing. She continues to be full of love for the whole world. In this way she wins people's affection and undermined Rob's power in the company. The story culminates when Rob shot Nina in the triumphal hour of her victory.

Download or read book The Fornax Drive written by Steven Burgauer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008-05-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet the inventor of light-speed travel, Fornax Nehrengel. Smart, brave, a reluctant hero. Caught up in an intense, light-speed adventure that zooms from the moon to Mars and back again. With him is an undercover Secret Service agent, a crusty old economics professor, a nefarious brother and a hot-blooded young woman. And chasing them? A power-hungry elite intent on stealing from him what could be mankind's most important invention since the internal combustion engine. ====================================================================== The year 2425: His boots heavy with mud, Fornax Nehrengel marched zombie-like through the bleak and raw dawn. He wore the face of exhaustion, wincing as each step brought forth a fresh dose of pain from the untreated blister oozing puss from between his toes. His dark skin and hair were grimy; his legs and arms sore. From deep within his belly an unheated breakfast of gruel protested its confinement. Indifference deadened his spirit and his eyelids drooped with fatigue. The black scowl etched on his face said it all. Fear. Exhaustion. Pain. Through chapped and broken lips Fornax Nehrengel silently cursed his plight. He was not a brave man. Indeed, he found it curiously ironic that he should be fighting to defend a flag he paid scant allegiance to or risking his life to support cherished ideals he barely endorsed. Fornax resented being here and desertion was on his mind! ====================================================================== And so it began. Humanity's first push into space has been a disaster, this despite some noteworthy successes at the outset. Indeed, mankind's initial attempt at colonization has been a total bust, accomplishing nothing more than making the moon a convenient dumping ground for our nuclear wastes. Offering promise for the future course of space-travel, however, Fornax Nehrengel has identified a means for harnessing this otherwise useless radioactive sludge in a battery, a battery so advanced that crossing the solar system soon becomes a trip measured in hours rather than in months or years. On a par with the internal combustion engine or the microchip in its potential impact on human civilization, this breakthrough immediately attracts the attention of a power-hungry elite. Now Fornax must run for his life as the future of space progress hangs in the balance!

Book excerpt: An erotic masterpiece of twentieth century fiction - a tale of sensual obsession and bloodlust in eighteenth century Paris 'An astonishing tour de force both in concept and execution' Guardian In eighteenth-century France there lived a man who was one of the most gifted and abominable personages in an era that knew no lack of gifted and abominable personages. His name was Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, and if his name has been forgotten today. It is certainly not because Grenouille fell short of those more famous blackguards when it came to arrogance, misanthropy, immorality, or, more succinctly, wickedness, but because his gifts and his sole ambition were restricted to a domain that leaves no traces in history: to the fleeting realm of scent . . . 'A fantastic tale of murder and twisted eroticism controlled by a disgusted loathing of humanity . .. Clever, stylish, absorbing and well worth reading' Literary Review 'A meditation on the nature of death, desire and decay . . . A remarkable début' Peter Ackroyd, The New York Times Book Review 'Unlike anything else one has read. A phenomenon . . . [It] will remain unique in contemporary literature' Figaro 'An ingenious and totally absorbing fantasy' Daily Telegraph 'Witty, stylish and ferociously absorbing' Observer
