With the exception of cities where the Church has been headquartered, it can be argued that no American city has had more influence on the history of the Church than the nation's capital. Beginning with Joseph Smith's earliest interactions with the federal government in the 1830s, the Church's progress has been shaped by leaders and members interacting in Washington. In 2019, faculty from the Department of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University traveled to Washington to study that history. This volume is filled with their essays on many of the topics they explored.
