Book Synopsis WORKMAN STREET: Wretched Lives In A Land Of Plenty by : Jean Ovide Bourdeau

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although highlighted by a premeditated murder this is nevertheless the story of a people living a life without expectations during the Thirties, Forties and Fifties in urban ghettos of Montréal, condemned by circumstances to live a life of misery without history and future. Observed by a boy, caught up in the same poverty trap and wounded intellectually for a few years with a massive indoctrination program of servile obedience and enforced acceptance without question to a dogmatic belief system - in this case the French-Canadian medieval version of Roman Catholicism of olden days. In the end, it brings out a ray of hope by suggesting that, similar to the first group of entrepreneurs of the Beauce region - those original and inspiring 'can do' people of Québec - a generalized underground movement has at last begun an original creativity and economic development, bypassing the previous limits of language, stifling religion, and the ideological self-imposed traditional barriers to entrepreneurship and business.

Download or read book Justified Lives written by Michael Bliss and published by SIU Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first book to critically examine each of the fourteen feature films Sam Peckinpah directed during his career, Michael Bliss stresses the persistent moral and structural elements that permeate Peckinpah’s work. By examining the films in great detail, Bliss makes clear the moral framework of temptation and redemption with which Peckinpah was concerned while revealing the director’s attention to narrative. Bliss shows that each of Peckinpah’s protagonists is involved with attempting, in the words of Ride the High Country’s Steve Judd, "to enter my house justified." The validity of this systematic method is clearly demonstrated in the chapter devoted to The Wild Bunch. By enumerating the doublings and triplings of action and dialogue found in the film, Bliss underscores its symbolic and structural complexity. Beginning the chapters treating Junior Bonner and The Getaway with analyses of their important title sequences, Bliss shows how these frequently disregarded pieces present in miniature the major moral and narrative concerns of the films. In his chapter on The Osterman Weekend, Bliss makes apparent Peckinpahs awareness of and concern with the self-reflexive nature of filmmaking itself. Bliss shows that like John Ford, Peckinpah moved from optimism to pessimism. The films of the director’s early period, from The Deadly Companions to Cable Hogue, support the romantic ideals of adventure and camaraderie and affirm a potential for goodness in America. In his second group of films, which begins with Straw Dogs and ends with Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, both heroes and hope have vanished. It is only in The Osterman Weekend that Peckinpah appears finally to have renewed his capacity for hope, allowing his career to close in a positive way.
Download or read book Journey of Life written by Terry Lawrence and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-01-07 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Journey of Life is a look inside a man, who walked along evils path, but was chosen by God to experience an awareness of righteousness and an awakening of his soul. It chronicles the Angel that He commissioned upon and into this mans heart and spirit, knowing that the goodness within needed to be saved from the abyss of evil. The instrument that God chose was Love. It records the first moment of meeting Gods Angel, and accounts the three years of trials and tribulations, loneliness and fear, happiness and joy, and the eventual recognition of a life long image. Through poetry, it conveys how love effected change. How an image of a man was transformed to goodness by the persistence, dedication, faith and unwavering love the Angel possessed for him. It reveals the iniquity that was inside him and the hurt that he imposed upon others, including the Angel. It shows how love does prevail, despite the obstacles of life, regardless of the circumstances of negativity, and in spite of actions or events that were intended to destroy that which God intended to provide. It illustrates the bond between two individuals, where a foundation of love was undeniable and an unexplainable connection was impassioned. It describes how a man became closer to God, appreciated life more than ever before, recognized himself, sought and achieved change, learned integrity, honor, and truth from the whispers of an Angel, , and was rewarded with everlasting love.

In this candidly-written memoir, Sloan chronicles her journey from being the “fat kid,” teased in grade school, to being an internationally acclaimed fitness model, fueled by a deep-rooted sense of inadequacy. Sloan takes a sledgehammer to the societal pressures we put on girls and women to look perfect— and teaches you how to burn the rule book and reclaim your power. Her story illuminates how to ultimately love and respect your body and yourself in a way that says, “someone I love lives here.” Book Review: "Raw, brutally honest, funny, and powerful. Book Synopsis The Passion of the Ruby Cat ‘On Life’ by : Maril Ozanne Garrison
Download or read book The Passion of the Ruby Cat ‘On Life’ written by Maril Ozanne Garrison and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-07-11 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry is powerful and necessary! Blake has said, “In sum, the poet is someone that humans cannot do without.” Poetry is beauty, practicality, grace, structure, gentleness and power that gives us peace, simplicity and wisdom. Poetry does nothing to earn its keep, no more than a singing bird. Yet it defines our roles, levels our road, empowers our spirits, and fills our hearts with courage. Mrs. Garrison has loved, taught and defined poetry over the years as she has studied and read many of the former poets, soaking up their styles and commenting on their writing. Poetry is like music without music. Easy to memorize, and easy to write if you pay attention to the masters, especially Poe. Poetry is a short, condensed mode of writing; it can be beautiful, loud, soft, invigorating, soul-filled and vibrant. RUBY CAT (The Passion of the Ruby Cat) is a collection of poems (rubaiyat) on life, plus a collection of quatrains and haikus. It is the third poetry book after the first two (THE PASSION OF POETRY and PASSION LAUGHS OUTLOUD!) that are all general poetry. There is a glossary in the end of each of these books giving definitions of not often used words to help the reader quickly enjoy every whimsical glance and nod.
