Book excerpt: This historical analysis is followed by a theoretical discussion of its implications for such issues as the mode of production operative in Kenya, the type of class analysis which is appropriate for the country, the role of the state in capital accumulation and class formation, and the possible relevance of Marxist value theory to the analysis of exploitation in Kenya. This book sets new standards for the study of the process of 'drift into dependency' and of the role of the state in the direction of a political economy. Download or read book Wages and Employment in Africa written by Dipak Mazumdar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: Analyzing labour market trends in sub-Saharan Africa since 1970, this volume employs data collected from the International Labor Organization (ILO), United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and World Bank (the RPED surveys). It examines the economics of the labour market against the presistent decline in real wages over some 20 years in some of these countries. Setting the African story against the background of wage-employment trends in other regions of the world, the author proceeds to examine the impact of this decline on the rural-urban earnings gap. The consequences of the declining wage levels on the lifetime earnings of workers and on trends in labour productivity are then discussed, followed by an analysis of the employment and wage structure in African manufacturing firms.

Book Synopsis Labour Markets in Low-Income Countries by : David Lam
Download or read book Labour Markets in Low-Income Countries written by David Lam and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-09 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Employment and job creation are key components in achieving economic growth and sustainable development, particularly in low-income countries. The growing size of the working-age population in many developing regions underscores the need to further strengthen labour market structures in the world's poorest countries. Despite the importance of studying emerging labour markets, and investigating which policies are more successful, the evidence is rather limited. Against this backdrop, the joint IZA/FCDO Growth and Labour Markets in Low Income Countries (GLM|LIC) programme was established and has taken important steps to close this gap. Covering topics such as poverty, informality and rural labour, skills training and behaviour, gender inequality, youth and child labour, and migration, this volume presents key takeaways from most recent research in the field. Which development policies will work, which strategies will fail? The authors provide an in-depth discussion of current development programmes, based on the results of new evaluation studies, and derive important policy lessons"--Publisher's description.
Book Synopsis Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Rehabilitation Sciences by : Adria Quigley
Download or read book Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Rehabilitation Sciences written by Adria Quigley and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-12-12 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of race, sex, gender, disability, and socioeconomic status on health and quality of life has been well established. Now, perhaps more than ever, there is a demand for equitable and timely access to rehabilitation. Incorporating principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility into clinical practice and research is essential for addressing the unique needs of rehabilitation clients. There is also a need to critically examine the integration of anti-oppressive and anti-racist frameworks into rehabilitation care. Strategies that promote accessible and affordable participation, health promotion, technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration in rehabilitation are also needed. The impact of gender, sexual orientation, race and religion, and socioeconomic status on rehabilitation service delivery and outcomes is less well known. Within the context of rehabilitation science, we need to understand these differences and illuminate how to better serve equity-deserving groups.
