Download or read book Data Analysis in Biochemistry and Biophysics written by Magar Mager and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data Analysis in Biochemistry and Biophysics describes the techniques how to derive the most amount of quantitative and statistical information from data gathered in enzyme kinetics, protein-ligand equilibria, optical rotatory dispersion, chemical relaxation methods. This book focuses on the determination and analysis of parameters in different models that are used in biochemistry, biophysics, and molecular biology. The Michaelis-Menten equation can explain the process to obtain the maximum amount of information by determining the parameters of the model. This text also explains the fundamentals present in hypothesis testing, and the equation that represents the statistical aspects of a linear model occurring frequently in this field of testing. This book also analyzes the ultraviolet spectra of nucleic acids, particularly, to establish the composition of melting regions of nucleic acids. The investigator can use the matrix rank analysis to determine the spectra to substantiate systems whose functions are not known. This text also explains flow techniques and relaxation methods associated with rapid reactions to determine transient kinetic parameters. This book is suitable for molecular biologists, biophysicists, physiologists, biochemists, bio- mathematicians, statisticians, computer programmers, and investigators involved in related sciences

This book was released on 2009-06-05 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to two important aspects of modern bioch- istry, molecular biology, and biophysics: computer simulation and data analysis. My aim is to introduce the tools that will enable students to learn and use some f- damental methods to construct quantitative models of biological mechanisms, both deterministicandwithsomeelementsofrandomness;tolearnhowconceptsofpr- ability can help to understand important features of DNA sequences; and to apply a useful set of statistical methods to analysis of experimental data. The availability of very capable but inexpensive personal computers and software makes it possible to do such work at a much higher level, but in a much easier way, than ever before. TheExecutiveSummaryofthein?uential2003reportfromtheNationalAcademy of Sciences, “BIO 2010: Transforming Undergraduate Education for Future - search Biologists” [12], begins The interplay of the recombinant DNA, instrumentation, and digital revolutions has p- foundly transformed biological research. The con?uence of these three innovations has led to important discoveries, such as the mapping of the human genome. How biologists design, perform, and analyze experiments is changing swiftly. Biological concepts and models are becoming more quantitative, and biological research has become critically dependent on concepts and methods drawn from other scienti?c disciplines. The connections between the biological sciences and the physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science are rapidly becoming deeper and more extensive.

Book Synopsis A Practical Approach to Microarray Data Analysis by : Daniel P. Berrar
Download or read book A Practical Approach to Microarray Data Analysis written by Daniel P. Berrar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past several years, DNA microarray technology has attracted tremendous interest in both the scientific community and in industry. With its ability to simultaneously measure the activity and interactions of thousands of genes, this modern technology promises unprecedented new insights into mechanisms of living systems. Currently, the primary applications of microarrays include gene discovery, disease diagnosis and prognosis, drug discovery (pharmacogenomics), and toxicological research (toxicogenomics). Typical scientific tasks addressed by microarray experiments include the identification of coexpressed genes, discovery of sample or gene groups with similar expression patterns, identification of genes whose expression patterns are highly differentiating with respect to a set of discerned biological entities (e.g., tumor types), and the study of gene activity patterns under various stress conditions (e.g., chemical treatment). More recently, the discovery, modeling, and simulation of regulatory gene networks, and the mapping of expression data to metabolic pathways and chromosome locations have been added to the list of scientific tasks that are being tackled by microarray technology. Each scientific task corresponds to one or more so-called data analysis tasks. Different types of scientific questions require different sets of data analytical techniques. Broadly speaking, there are two classes of elementary data analysis tasks, predictive modeling and pattern-detection. Predictive modeling tasks are concerned with learning a classification or estimation function, whereas pattern-detection methods screen the available data for interesting, previously unknown regularities or relationships.
Book Synopsis Statistical Analysis in Proteomics by : Klaus Jung
Download or read book Statistical Analysis in Proteomics written by Klaus Jung and published by Humana Press. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This valuable collection aims to provide a collection of frequently used statistical methods in the field of proteomics. Although there is a large overlap between statistical methods for the different ‘omics’ fields, methods for analyzing data from proteomics experiments need their own specific adaptations. To satisfy that need, Statistical Analysis in Proteomics focuses on the planning of proteomics experiments, the preprocessing and analysis of the data, the integration of proteomics data with other high-throughput data, as well as some special topics. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, the chapters contain the kind of detail and expert implementation advice that makes for a smooth transition to the laboratory. Practical and authoritative, Statistical Analysis in Proteomics serves as an ideal reference for statisticians involved in the planning and analysis of proteomics experiments, beginners as well as advanced researchers, and also for biologists, biochemists, and medical researchers who want to learn more about the statistical opportunities in the analysis of proteomics data.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Analysis of Physiological Data by : Holger Kantz
Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Physiological Data written by Holger Kantz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is more than a standard proceedings volume, although it is an almost direct result of the workshop on "Nonlinear Analysis of Physiologi cal Time Series" held in Freital near Dresden, Germany, in October 1995. The idea of the meeting was, as for previous meetings devoted to related topics, such as the conference on dynamical diseases held near Montreal in February 1994 (see CHAOS Vol. 5(1), 1995), to bring together experts on the techniques of nonlinear analysis and the theory of chaos and applicants from the most fascinating field where such methods could potentially be useful: the life sciences. The former group consisted mainly of physicists and mathe maticians, the latter was represented by physiologists and medical researchers and practitioners. Many aspects of this workshop were unusual and not previously expe rienced. Also, the hosting institution, the Max Planck Institute for Physics of Complex Systems (MPIPKS), at this time was brand new. The organiz ers' rather unconventional intention was to bring specialists of both groups together to really work together. Therefore, there was an excessive availabil ity of computers and the possibility to numerically study time series data sets practitioners had supplied from their own fields, e. g. electrocardiogram (ECG) data, electroencephalogram (EEG) data, data from the respiratory system, from human voice, human posture control, and several others. These data formed a much stronger link between theoreticians and applicants than any of the common ideas.
Book Synopsis The Analysis of Biological Data by : Michael C. Whitlock
Download or read book The Analysis of Biological Data written by Michael C. Whitlock and published by Macmillan Higher Education. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 2074 pages.
