Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es sein, mithilfe von drei Textbeispielen darzulegen, wie Malinche und die Virgen de Guadalupe in zeitgenössischen Quellen, beziehungsweise in modernerer Literatur dargestellt werden, und ihren Beitrag zur Entwicklung des Frauenbildes in Mexiko aufzuzeigen. Dafür erfolgt zunächst eine Vorstellung beider Figuren sowie ein Abriss zur Entwicklung ihrer Literatur- und Forschungsstände vom 16. bis 20. Jahrhundert. Daraufhin werden drei Beispiele im Hinblick auf die Zielsetzung analysiert. Als kontemporäre Quelle zur Beschreibung Malinches dient dafür die „Historia verdadera de la conquista de la Nueva España“ des Chronisten Bernal Díaz del Castillo aus dem Jahre 1568. Um näher auf das Bild der Virgen de Guadalupe einzugehen, soll auf die indianische Erzählung „Nican Mopohua“ Bezug genommen werden, welche zwischen 1545 und 1550 von Antonio Valeriano verfasst wurde. Aus der aktuelleren Literatur wurde der 1989 veröffentlichte Roman „La casa en Mango Street“ der Chicana-Autorin Sandra Cisneros ausgewählt, um einige der darin auftretenden Frauen(bilder) aus einer anderen zeitlichen Perspektive genauer zu betrachten.
