Book Synopsis The Correspondence of Charles Darwin: Volume 24, 1876 by : Charles Darwin
Download or read book The Correspondence of Charles Darwin: Volume 24, 1876 written by Charles Darwin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 913 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is part of the definitive edition of letters written by and to Charles Darwin, the most celebrated naturalist of the nineteenth century. Notes and appendixes put these fascinating and wide-ranging letters in context, making the letters accessible to both scholars and general readers. Darwin depended on correspondence to collect data from all over the world, and to discuss his emerging ideas with scientific colleagues, many of whom he never met in person. The letters are published chronologically: volume 24 includes letters from 1876, the year in which Darwin published Cross and Self Fertilisation in the Vegetable Kingdom, and started writing Forms of Flowers. In 1876, Darwin's daughter-in-law, Amy, died shortly after giving birth to a son, Bernard Darwin, an event that devastated the family. The volume includes a supplement of 182 letters from earlier years, including a newly discovered collection of letters from William Darwin, Darwin's eldest son.

Book Synopsis The Descent of Darwin by : Alfred Kelly
Download or read book The Descent of Darwin written by Alfred Kelly and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2012-12-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Germany, more than anywhere else, Darwinism was a sensational success. Setting his analysis against the background of popular science, Kelly follows popular Darwinism as it permeated education, religion, politics, and social thought in Germany. He explains how the popularizers changed Darwin's thought in subtle ways and how these changes colored their perceptions of Darwinism. Among the first purveyors of mass culture, the Germans provide valuable clues as to how seminal ideas move through a society. Originally published in 1981. Book Synopsis Cells in Evolutionary Biology by : Brian K. Hall
Download or read book Cells in Evolutionary Biology written by Brian K. Hall and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-12 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first in a projected series on Evolutionary Cell Biology, the intent of which is to demonstrate the essential role of cellular mechanisms in transforming the genotype into the phenotype by transforming gene activity into evolutionary change in morphology. This book —Cells in Evolutionary Biology — evaluates the evolution of cells themselves and the role cells have been viewed to play as agents of change at other levels of biological organization. Chapters explore Darwin’s use of cells in his theory of evolution and how Weismann’s theory of the separation of germ plasm from body cells brought cells to center stage in understanding how acquired changes to cells within generations are not passed on to future generations. Book Synopsis Charles Darwin's Natural Selection by : Charles Darwin
Download or read book Charles Darwin's Natural Selection written by Charles Darwin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1987-11-26 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species is unquestionably one of the chief landmarks in biology. The Origin (as it is widely known) was literally only an abstract of the manuscript Darwin had originally intended to complete and publish as the formal presentation of his views on evolution. Compared with the Origin, his original long manuscript work on Natural Selection, which is presented here and made available for the first time in printed form, has more abundant examples and illustrations of Darwin's argument, plus an extensive citation of sources.
