Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of Afropessimism does not refer to Black people, but rather to the likelihood of white society overcoming its own negrophobia, and to a radical distrust in white narratives of inclusivity. What if the ideas and reforms we regard as progressive were just the new and shiny face of racism? In the time of Black Lives Matter, the unswerving dehumanization and killing of Black people form the bedrock of our civilization. But a vast anti-Black collective feeling also manifests itself as a more insidious shared unconscious, hidden from view by the doctrines we deem as emancipatory. This book challenges the simplistic and pacifying aspects of current African American thought. It puts forward alternatives to intersectionality, poststructuralism, and radical democracy, which are often prioritized in the Black analysis of race, gender, and class. Accessible, historically informed, and politically alert, this book offers a critical analysis of the groundbreaking theories and strategies that radically reimagine the future of Black lives throughout the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction I am writing and dedicating this book "Dark Skinned Sisters (Stigma of Black Skin)" to my beautiful daughter, Polly and grand daughter, Amber. This book is to educate them how God made everything so they will understand their complexions and be proud to be beautiful women. In the beginning God created all living things on Earth and he gave each it's color as not to be superior to another. We do not know why he gave each thing it's specific color, but I believe he gave each thing it's color for a reason to camouflage or protect it from danger in his own grand wisdom. The color of black and white are present in all species; in some instances black and white are given to them. The color of being black is not a curse and that's a fact. However, each author may say his or her writing is inspired by God. It is up to the reader to accept or reject that concept to be believable or just a fictitious creation of his or her work. This book's purpose is to inform and educate people of the World on how evolution might have really began and evolved into the World of today. Once the facts are presented in an intelligent and intellectual manner to fully understand how exploitation and manipulation were inflicted upon humans. Read the book I published: "Overcoming Ham's Curse." One of the greatest thing God gave us was the freedom of thought to accept or reject any condition or belief one may fine himself or herself in. There still is only true or false statement, not half true or half false. However, Black Americans endured that stigma for Centuries echoing the slogan: "We Shall overcome I truly believe we shall overcome." That meaning finally became a reality when President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into Law with a meaning, that we are truly equal under the Law. Words to Ponder: "When history of a people is portrayed as insignificant, history may mean very little to them. When role models of their likeness are presented in a positive way, it will decrease resentment and inferiority from being breaded into them. When a people discovers positive contributions their forebears contributed to Society, it gives hope and pride to them; then they can grasp what the color of Black really means. Black people had to overcome discrimination since the beginning of time from hardships and struggles which were inflicted upon their race for Centuries for being the color of Black. However nothing last forever. This book will make you pride if you are a freedom loving individual who cherish the freedom of all mankind. " Therlee Gipson

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Putting the New Materialist figure of diffraction to use in a set of readings – in which cultural texts are materially read against their contents and their themes, against their readers or against other texts – this volume proposes a criticalintervention into the practice of reading itself. In this book, reading and reading methodology are probed for their materiality and re-considered as being inevitably suspended between, or diffracted with, both matter and discourse. The history of literary and cultural reading, including poststructuralism and critical theory, is revisited in a new light and opened-up for a future in which the world and reading are no longer regarded as conveniently separate spheres, but recognized as deeply entangled and intertwined. Diffractive Reading ultimately represents a new reading of reading itself: firstly by critiquing the distanced perspective of critical paradigms such as translation and intertextuality, in which texts encountered, processed or otherwise subdued; secondly, showing how all literary and cultural readings represent different ‘agential cuts’ in the world-text-reader constellation, which is always both discursive and material; and thirdly, the volume materializes, dynamizes and politicizes the activity of reading by drawing attention to reading’s intervention in, and (co)creation of, the world in which we live.

Book excerpt: Have you avoided treating black skin, or having your own skin treated due to a lack of skincare confidence for black skin? Would you like to overcome your apprehension to using skincare products? Are you wanting and ready to see real change in skin health equity? Like you, I've been misguided when it came to my skin. Prior to entering the industry, I shunned the use of any professional skincare simply due to the well-meaning, but harmful traditions passed on to me by my family. When I went to the drug stores or beauty counters, I was always let down by the inappropriate products that were recommended for my skin type and skin colour. It is stories such as my own and many others why I entered the industry to effectively bring truth and awareness for change. If you've struggled getting the right care or with caring for black skin, you're not alone. According to the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, only 4 percent of practicing dermatologists identify as Hispanic, and only 3 percent identify as Black or African descent. Alarming. This lack of understanding for darker skin proliferates beyond the skin health industry but also involves the medical field. According to Janice A. Sabin, PhD, "40% of first- and second-year medical students in the US still endorsed the belief that 'black people's skin is thicker than white people's', a relic belief from the early 19th century." This work is one small but significant step towards rectifying that malady. In this book you will discover: - Surprising truths about black/darker skin. - The #1 common misconception and myth surrounding darker skin, plus many more. - The illustrious history of the Beauty industry and darker skin. - What top tier skin pros from around the world today, had to say about treating black clients. - How to level up your know-how on skincare ingredients and skincare routines. - Effective treatments for darker skin. - The Ten Commandments for black Skin. As a skin professional or as a novice, this book will further support you understanding of darker skin, even if you haven't had much success in the past

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Race in the Anthropocene provides a radical new perspective on the importance of race and coloniality in the Anthropocene. It forwards the Black Horizon as a critical lens which places at its heart the importance of ontological concerns fundamental to problematising the violences and exclusions of the antiblack world. At present, multiple new approaches are emerging through the shared problem field of Anthropocene thought and policy, offering to save not just the world, but the practice of governance, the business of Big Data, the progress of development, and the dream of peace. It is against this backdrop that Race in the Anthropocene unsettles not just the already shaky foundations of modernity but also the affirmative visions of its critics, by directing our gaze to how race and coloniality are baked into the grounding concepts of international thought. This book is essential reading for students of International Relations, particularly those interested in international politics, security, and development. It is also of relevance for those interested in contemporary social, political, and environmental debates and policy practices.

Book excerpt: An immensely persuasive work of literary criticism that opens a new chapter in the American dialogue on race—and promises to change the way we read American literature—from the acclaimed Nobel Prize winner Morrison shows how much the themes of freedom and individualism, manhood and innocence, depended on the existence of a black population that was manifestly unfree--and that came to serve white authors as embodiments of their own fears and desires. According to the Chicago Tribune, Morrison "reimagines and remaps the possibility of America." Her brilliant discussions of the "Africanist" presence in the fiction of Poe, Melville, Cather, and Hemingway leads to a dramatic reappraisal of the essential characteristics of our literary tradition. Written with the artistic vision that has earned the Nobel Prize-winning author a pre-eminent place in modern letters, Playing in the Dark is an invaluable read for avid Morrison admirers as well as students, critics, and scholars of American literature.
