Book excerpt: Dark Blue Down South is a historical novel about the Germans of the Central Texas Hill Country and other Texans who chose to fight for the North in the Civil War. The Texas Germans organized several companies of infantry and started for the Mexican border expecting to sail from Mexico to the North to join a Northern Army. They were intercepted by a Texas Cavalry unit near the Rio Grande River where a fight occurred. A small number of Germans survived the battle, and the execution of prisoners that followed the battle, and crossed into Mexico. These men managed to get to New Orleans, which had just fallen to the North, and joined the United States First Texas Cavalry which was being created from Texans who had chosen to fight for the North. This novel places two young men in this situation, has them hide from the Confederate conscription, flee to the Mexican border with the German infantry, make the voyage to New Orleans, join the U.S. First Texas Cavalry and then fight with that Northern unit for the remaining three years of the Civil War

The author has answered the above vexing questions based on an intensive study of Archaeology, Epigraphy, Numismatics, original records in different languages and the travelogues of foreign visitors.(Translator’s Note).

Be it playing, watching or managing, Steve 'Worthy' Worthington's life in football has never been easy. Having suffered an almost fatal road accident in the week before his ninth birthday, any aspirations for glocal stardom as a player were crushed beneath the wheels of a speeding Triumph Spitfire in 1971. As a spectator he fared no better. Over the years Manchester City and England addicts have experienced many disappointments - most of which he was there to see. As manager of his beloved Sunday League club Lee Athletic, success was a word used only on the odd occasion when he persuaded his team to turn up sober and in time for kick-off. But two things that have always kept him going were his love of the local 'Indie' music scene and an ability to find humour during the darkest of times. Join him n a vivid journey that takes you into the beating heart of 1960s and '70s working class Manchester: through give decades of football (and a bit of cricket), music and people, in the eyes and ears of an everyday bloke who turned constant failure into final triumph.

Book excerpt: Take a deep breath Steve Backshall was nine years old the first time he saw a shark, while on holiday with his family in Malaysia. It was the beginning of a life-long fascination with these 'lords of the sea', and the oceanic life around them. His career as one of the world's most popular naturalists and explorers has taken him to countless underwater places, many never before seen by others. And he's also been witness to the startling decline in fortune of our oceans' wild inhabitants over the past fifty years. Deep Blue is a book a lifetime in the making: a remarkable blend of memoir, travel, and marine and environmental science that takes us on an unforgettable tour of the many worlds of aquatic life: from underwater deserts and rainforests to the evolution of ocean heroes like the sea turtle and the Great White, from the genesis of ocean life to the rapidly declining state of white polar seas and coral reefs. It's both a love letter to our precious oceans and rallying cry for what we must to do save them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: British forces have had a presence in British Honduras, Belize, or the wider Caribbean since the mid-17th century. This presence has included Royal Navy, Royal Marine, Army and, more recently, the RAF. Over the years, force levels increased and decreased depending on the political situation with Guatemala at the time, and the inherent threat of a possible Guatemalan border confrontation. At times, force levels reached roughly Brigade strength with additional RAF and RN support. Serving in Belize during this time was an exciting experience for most young men. On the one hand you had relatively poor living conditions in some of the camps nearer the Guatemalan border; the harsh and inhospitable jungle when carrying out patrols; the routine task of manning isolated observation posts on the tops of the Maya and Toledo mountains overlooking the Guatemalan border. Once away from the duties of securing the border you had the opportunity to see the gentler side of Belize. From the Jungle to the Deep Blue Sea is a down to earth book about individual memories and experiences of servicemen in Belize.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “To Touch the Crown” is a deeply spiritual fiction story, based on a truth: non-fiction times the earth was in. The road begins into a drive entering the darker side of life and the uprising and commercializing of the Seattle rave scene (years 1998-2002)... ...The main story begin with Jameson (James) who grew up somewhat of a leader, living for love, but money seemed to be blinding him from the only way to receive what he’d never had. He ventures in search of a girl he found in his senior prom, where high-school is the farthest thing from the groove. James enters the dark-world where raving is the freedom. ... Brian was following the footsteps of his best friend Jameson, drifting along under the wings of money, lost in the silhouette of status. He was clueless about life and the future road in front him, good times after work seemed to be the only thing that made life worth living. A date with Ashley comes, that would change his life forever. ... Jason wakes up in world he’s never been, under a new face, not knowing who he is. His identification shows his face, one that he’s never seen before, under a name he’s never heard of... ...We step into the shell of these characters feeling what they feel, intertwining in their thoughts and emotions as youths become young adults trying to find themselves, and their meaning. They face decisions that can alter the lives of many, choices that can never be changed when chosen; choices where the only choice, is to make the choice. ... In their search for love, they see the worse the world has to offer, and the light of heaven’s above in a find for truth and reason... This book also contains a non-fiction news excerpt for “world salvation” and ending “The Sorcery War”.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At five out of the last six Olympic Games team GBR has been the top nation in sailing, a result of strong leadership from the Royal Yachting Association and very talented sailors and coaches. But Barry Pickthall, formerly the Yachting Correspondent of The Times observes: "If one man deserves recognition for Britain's remarkable success within the sailing Olympic arena, it is Jim Saltonstall – the coach who has cajoled, encouraged and inspired so many youngsters towards world stardom over the past 3 decades." This is the story of Jim Saltonstall and his contribution to the success of British sailing. It starts in his home county of Yorkshire and the seaside town of Bridlington where he learnt to sail. It goes through his experiences in the Royal Navy, which he joined aged 15, with tours all around the world but, particularly, sailing with the Royal Navy team and becoming the Royal Navy Sailing Coach. This led to his appointment as the first RYA National Yacht Racing Coach, the development of the GBR Race Training Scheme and, in due course, great success at youth, world and Olympic levels. The 31 Olympic medals won by the 19 sailors who give glowing praise to Jim in the Foreword confirms his contribution to this success. Jim retired from his Team GBR role in 2000, after the Sydney Olympics, but it is a testimony to him that two of the gold medallists from Tokyo 2020 (which took place in 2021 – in elite sports a lifetime since Jim retired) credit him in their success, saying he was a 'huge inspiration' and they 'couldn't help be motivated' by him. On top of twice winning the Yachting Journalists' Association Yachtsman of the Year Award (1984 and 1995), Jim was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 British Yachting Awards. The story is told as modestly as a Yorkshireman can, and is interspaced with tales of cars, car journeys and one or two parties! Jim also takes time out of the story to give his thoughts on all aspects of youth training, competing internationally and coaching. Anyone involved in race training will benefit from the wisdom he provides in these pieces.

Book excerpt: After moving from small-town USA to Hawaii at the tender age of 14, SCUBA diving introduced Tony to a fascinating new world of thrills and adventure that would shape the course of his life forever. He never let the fact that he was the only black kid involved deter him in his quest to explore the underwater world. This autobiography describes the exciting, true, and oftentimes humorous story of how he overcame being the product of a broken family, stereotyping, numerous challenges, several close calls, and countless other eye-opening events to become the only black American commercial deep sea diver to work in the demanding offshore oilfields in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa in the a80s and a90s, where, at the slightest mistake, the rich oil companies were ready to send a diver packing his bags and heading back to shore, never to be hired again.
