Book Synopsis PLANT BREEDING IN 21ST CENTURY by : B.D. Singh
Download or read book PLANT BREEDING IN 21ST CENTURY written by B.D. Singh and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-01 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of plant breeding has undergone transformation due to the assimilation of the rapid developments in molecular biology. The existing books on plant breeding deal mainly with the classical approaches, while specialized books on molecular approaches usually lack discussion of the classical methods. The book Plant Breeding for 21st Century attempts to present the complete picture of plant breeding ranging from the classical to the molecular approaches applied to crop improvement. The book is divided into four sections: Classical Plant Breeding, Transgenic technology, Molecular Markers, and Miscellaneous. The first section deals with the classical plant breeding and is divided into eight chapters. The second section has four chapters and describes transgenic technology. The third section discusses various aspects of molecular markers and is spread over three chapters. The final section has a single chapter dealing with variety release, seed multiplication and intellectual property rights. This book is designed primarily for graduate students, viz., B.Sc. agriculture and B.Sc. science students with botany as one of the subjects, who would get their first exposure to plant breeding. It would also be useful for the post-graduate students, especially in botany, and to teachers of the subject. The book is written in simple and easy to understand language. Illustrations and photographs have been provided wherever they were expected to facilitate comprehension of the subject under discussion.
Book Synopsis Mycotoxins Problem and its Management by : S.M. Reddy
Download or read book Mycotoxins Problem and its Management written by S.M. Reddy and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mycotoxins, secondary metabolites of storage moulds, have been receiving increasing attention in view of their undisputed role in public health. Many books appeared, conferences in different parts of the globe are being conducted which clearly indicate direct relation between the incidence of mycotoxigenic fungi, degree of mycotoxin contamination and their prevalence revealed their relation to some of the human ailments. Out of several mycotoxins, aflatoxins, ochratoxins A and fumonisins are posing serious health hazards specially in Asian countries. Inspite of intensive and extensive studies related to mycotoxins the problems becoming intricate and intriguing and decisive conclusions could not be drawn and clear cut solutions are provided. This book is divided into two parts. First part deals with general aspects of mycotoxins covering areas of natural incidence, taxonomy of mycotoxigenic fungi, analytical techniques, and mechanism of mycotoxins, toxicity epidemiology and management of mycotoxins. The second part deals with individual mycotoxins. The detailed account of producing organisms, detection, biological activity and management practices specific to that of mycotoxins are discussed in individual chapters. An attempt has been made to discuss mycotoxins problem with reference to Indian conditions. In view of voluminous literature only comparatively recent and relevant literature is quoted and may be some important works might have been omitted.

Book Synopsis Diagnosis of Mycotoxicoses by : J.L. Richard
Download or read book Diagnosis of Mycotoxicoses written by J.L. Richard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current problems associated with the mycotoxicoses include the recognition of an animal disease as being a mycotoxicosis and confirmation of diagnosis of the mycotoxicosis by satisfactory laboratory methods. By gathering a vast amount of scientific literature, diagnosticians can provide themselves with suitable informa tion for making such a diagnosis. However, the increased number of reported intoxications caused by fungi, the wide range in diversity of disease conditions and the chemical compounds causing the mycotoxicoses, and the ever-changing and rapid developments in the technology of mycotoxin analysis has made the gathering and assimilation of sufficient information by the diagnostician an insurmountable task. This is the reason for development of the symposium and the publication of this book; the first time that the subject of diagnosis of mycotoxicoses has been assembled in a single publication and as a compilation of topic papers by experts in this subject area. The UJNR panel on toxic microorganisms is interested in all aspects of intox ications by microorganisms as evidenced by its annual joint meetings in either the United States or Japan and its involvement in sponsoring numerous symposia and several publications in this broad scientific area. The overall mission of the National Animal Disease Center includes research efforts in the improvement or establishment of diagnostic methods for animal diseases. The UJNR panel and the NADC provided the funds and encouragement for the development of a symposium on the diagnosis of mycotoxicoses in the United States and . Tapan.

Book Synopsis Cell and Molecular Biology by : Gerald Karp
Download or read book Cell and Molecular Biology written by Gerald Karp and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-10-19 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karp continues to help biologists make important connections between key concepts and experimentation. The sixth edition explores core concepts in considerable depth and presents experimental detail when it helps to explain and reinforce the concepts. The majority of discussions have been modified to reflect the latest changes in the field. The book also builds on its strong illustration program by opening each chapter with “VIP” art that serves as a visual summary for the chapter. Over 60 new micrographs and computer-derived images have been added to enhance the material. Biologists benefit from these changes as they build their skills in making the connection.
Book Synopsis Calcium Entry Channels in Non-Excitable Cells by : Juliusz Ashot Kozak
Download or read book Calcium Entry Channels in Non-Excitable Cells written by Juliusz Ashot Kozak and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calcium Entry Channels in Non-Excitable Cells focuses on methods of investigating the structure and function of non-voltage gated calcium channels. Each chapter presents important discoveries in calcium entry pathways, specifically dealing with the molecular identification of store-operated calcium channels which were reviewed by earlier volumes in the Methods in Signal Transduction series. Crystallographic and pharmacological approaches to the study of calcium channels of epithelial cells are also discussed. Calcium ion is a messenger in most cell types. Whereas voltage gated calcium channels have been studied extensively, the non-voltage gated calcium entry channel genes have only been identified relatively recently. The book will fill this important niche.

Book Synopsis Human Intestinal Microflora in Health and Disease by : David J. Hentges
Download or read book Human Intestinal Microflora in Health and Disease written by David J. Hentges and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Intestinal Microflora in Health and Disease deals with human indigenous intestinal flora, the vast assemblage of microorganisms that reside in the intestinal tract. It contains information on the composition of the flora, its development, metabolic activities, importance to the host, and the consequences of upsetting its ecology. The book is organized into four parts. Part I examines the composition and development of intestinal flora. Part II deals with the metabolic activities of intestinal microflora. These include studies on carbohydrate metabolism in the human colon; the compounds used as nitrogen sources by gastrointestinal tract bacteria; and metabolic transformations of xenobiotic compounds carried out by intestinal flora. Part III examines the importance of intestinal microflora, including its role in intestinal structure and function and in suppressing the growth of pathogens. Part IV discusses the factors that can disrupt the ecology of intestinal microflora, such as antimicrobial agents, pseudomembranous colitis, and dietary and environmental stress. The research presented in this book will be of interest to both basic scientists and physicians concerned with the effects of the intestinal flora on human life.
