This study explores the need for a documentary annual report on Corporate Cyber Espionage. It categorized the threat of corporate cyber espionage into: the cost to companies and loss of revenues, the cost to the economy and loss of critical technologies, and the threat to national security and critical national infrastructure. It examines the tools of the trade and how it is deployed from reconnaissance to transferring, storage and mining of the information. The study examines the dramatic personae in the corporate espionage trade and the measures the government and companies are deploying to combat the menace of corporate cyber espionage. It finds that majority of companies sponsored studies focus on data breaches and cost to companies due to loss of personally identifiable information, that independent scholarly and academic studies are turned between data breaches and threat to critical technologies, while the reports of the intelligence community centers on the threat to national security. It identifies a dearth of studies on the threat of corporate cyber espionage and makes proposals for an annual report on Corporate Cyber Espionage. The study concludes that a report on the Dark Side of Crime of corporate cyber espionage will spur both national discourse and corporate measures to mitigate and prevent the scourge.
