Download or read book No Logo written by Naomi Klein and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tenth anniversary edition of the international bestseller with an updated introduction by Naomi Klein. In the last decade No Logo has become an international phenomenon. Equal parts journalistic expose, mall-rat memoir, and political and cultural analysis, it vividly documents the invasive economic practices and damaging social effects of the ruthless corporatism that characterizes many of our powerful institutions. As the world faces another depression, Naomi Klein's analysis of the branded world we all live in proves not only astonishingly prescient but more vital and timely than ever. No Logo became "the movement bible" that put the new grassroots resistance to corporate manipulation into clear perspective. It tells a story of rebellious rage and self-determination in the face of our branded world, calling for a more just, sustainable economic model and a new kind of proactive internationalism. Since her book The Shock Doctrine was published last year, Klein, now thirty-eight, has become the most visible and influential figure on the American left-what Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky were thirty years ago.

Book Synopsis Street-Smart Advertising by : Margo Berman
Download or read book Street-Smart Advertising written by Margo Berman and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2010-09-16 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even the most creative minds need stimulation. Inspiration can come from examples of exceptional work, exercises designed to motivate, or time to reflect. The more inventive pieces the mind takes in, the more resources it has to draw from. Street Smart Advertising: How to Win the Battle of the Buzz contains countless examples designed to jump-start the right side of the brain. Margo Berman's book is packed with memorable uses of new media, exciting on-strategy marketing, creative online work, and insightful quotes by giants in the advertising industry. She offers innovative techniques to generate 'sticky' slogans and headlines, easy-to-apply copywriting tips, and practical revision strategies. Berman has updated the book to reflect how online media has changed its approach from 'pushing' information to the audience to 'pulling' - i.e., engaging the audience in a brand. By using social networking groups like Facebook and Twitter, the author points out, even small companies can have a giant digital footprint by leveraging their online presence, offering relevant insights, and stimulating consumer-created content. In tough economic times, Berman says, savvy advertisers don't need huge budgets to engage the audience and create forums for them to share ideas. The biggest change in marketing is reaching people through new touch points: through audience intersection, viral marketing, and online dialogues. As Street Smart Advertising makes clear, those who become victorious in this new marketing arena will win the battle of the buzz.
Download or read book Sweet Tooth written by Kate Hopkins and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Sweet Tooth is a book with a real edge, a balanced firsthand account of [the author's] obsession with candy and a detailed look at its history and development. The sugary treats we enjoy today have a prominent past: They've delighted kings, cured the ill, and were developed into a billion-dollar industry. At the same time, however, the bitter side of this chronicle tells how the confectionery industry helped create an environment of unhealthy overindulgence, quelled small-business competition deemed to pose risks to any corporation's bottom line, and was indeed largely responsible for the slave trade that evolved during America's colonial era."--Book jacket.

Download or read book Re-collection written by Richard Rinehart and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2022-11-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book on the philosophy and aesthetics of digital preservation examines the challenge posed by new media to our long-term social memory. How will our increasingly digital civilization persist beyond our lifetimes? Audio and videotapes demagnetize; CDs delaminate; Internet art links to websites that no longer exist; Amiga software doesn't run on iMacs. In Re-collection, Richard Rinehart and Jon Ippolito argue that the vulnerability of new media art illustrates a larger crisis for social memory. They describe a variable media approach to rescuing new media, distributed across producers and consumers who can choose appropriate strategies for each endangered work. New media art poses novel preservation and conservation dilemmas. Given the ephemerality of their mediums, software art, installation art, and interactive games may be heading to obsolescence and oblivion. Rinehart and Ippolito, both museum professionals, examine the preservation of new media art from both practical and theoretical perspectives, offering concrete examples that range from Nam June Paik to Danger Mouse. They investigate three threats to twenty-first-century creativity: technology, because much new media art depends on rapidly changing software or hardware; institutions, which may rely on preservation methods developed for older mediums; and law, which complicates access with intellectual property constraints such as copyright and licensing. Technology, institutions, and law, however, can be enlisted as allies rather than enemies of ephemeral artifacts and their preservation. The variable media approach that Rinehart and Ippolito propose asks to what extent works to be preserved might be medium-independent, translatable into new mediums when their original formats are obsolete.
