Book Synopsis Discurso y conocimiento by : Teun van Dijk
Download or read book Discurso y conocimiento written by Teun van Dijk and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2016-10 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Business Discourse by : Francesca Bargiela-Chiappini
Download or read book Handbook of Business Discourse written by Francesca Bargiela-Chiappini and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2009-05-12 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Business Discourse is the most comprehensive overview of the field to date. It offers an accessible and authoritative introduction to a range of historical, disciplinary, methodological and cultural perspectives on business discourse and addresses many of the pressing issues facing a growing, varied and increasingly international field of research. The collection also illustrates some of the challenges of defining and delimiting a relatively recent and eclectic field of studies, including debates on the very definition of 'business discourse'. Part One includes chapters on the origins, advances and features of business discourse in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Part Two covers methodological approaches such as mediated communication, corpus linguistics, organisational discourse, multimodality, race and management communication, and rhetorical analysis. Part Three moves on to look at disciplinary perspectives such as sociology, pragmatics, gender studies, intercultural communication, linguistic anthropology and business communication. Part Four looks at cultural perspectives across a range of geographical areas including Spain, Brazil, Japan, Korea, China and Vietnam. The concluding section reflects on future developments in Europe, North America and Asia.

Book Synopsis The Routledge Handbook of Cultural Discourse Studies by : Shi- xu
Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Cultural Discourse Studies written by Shi- xu and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-29 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to the cultural challenges in society and scholarship, this handbook presents the conceptions, assumptions, principles, methods, topics and issues in the studies of cultural forms of human communication—cultural discourses—by experts from around the world. A culturalist programme in communication studies (CS), cultural discourse studies (CDS), as represented in this handbook, is a new current of thought in human and social science and a form of academic activism, but above all, it is a fresh paradigm of research committed to enhancing cultural harmony and prosperity on the one hand and facilitating intellectual plurality and innovation on the other hand. This handbook is the first of its kind; it is concerned with the identities of, and interactions between, the world’s diverse cultural communities through locally-grounded and globally-minded, culturally conscious and critical approaches to their communicative practice. Contributors apply such insights, precepts and techniques, not merely to discover and describe past and present communication, but also to design and guide future communication. This handbook is ideal for scholars and students interested in cultural aspects and issues of communication/discourse, as well as researchers of other fields looking to apply cultural discourse methods to their own projects.

Book Synopsis International Handbook of Historical Archaeology by : Teresita Majewski
Download or read book International Handbook of Historical Archaeology written by Teresita Majewski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-07 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In studying the past, archaeologists have focused on the material remains of our ancestors. Prehistorians generally have only artifacts to study and rely on the diverse material record for their understanding of past societies and their behavior. Those involved in studying historically documented cultures not only have extensive material remains but also contemporary texts, images, and a range of investigative technologies to enable them to build a broader and more reflexive picture of how past societies, communities, and individuals operated and behaved. Increasingly, historical archaeology refers not to a particular period, place, or a method, but rather an approach that interrogates the tensions between artifacts and texts irrespective of context. In short, historical archaeology provides direct evidence for how humans have shaped the world we live in today. Historical archaeology is a branch of global archaeology that has grown in the last 40 years from its North American base into an increasingly global community of archaeologists each studying their area of the world in a historical context. Where historical archaeology started as part of the study of the post-Columbian societies of the United States and Canada, it has now expanded to interface with the post-medieval archaeologies of Europe and the diverse post-imperial experiences of Africa, Latin America, and Australasia. The 36 essays in the International Handbook of Historical Archaeology have been specially commissioned from the leading researchers in their fields, creating a wide-ranging digest of the increasingly global field of historical archaeology. The volume is divided into two sections, the first reviewing the key themes, issues, and approaches of historical archaeology today, and the second containing a series of case studies charting the development and current state of historical archaeological practice around the world. This key reference work captures the energy and diversity of this global discipline today.

This book was released on with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of several years of research on children’s and youth telenovelas, which began during my doctoral studies and with previously disseminated productions in the form of conference papers, scientific articles, and book chapters, but always in the Portuguese language. More than a compilation of these materials, the purpose of this book is to rescue the presented concepts, while updating them, and reconsidering the analyses conducted by intersecting them. It also aims to contribute to the internationalization of the research by presenting it in a new language (English), going beyond the limits of the Portuguese-speaking world.
Book Synopsis Archaeology of Culture Contact and Colonialism in Spanish and Portuguese America by : Pedro Paulo A. Funari
Download or read book Archaeology of Culture Contact and Colonialism in Spanish and Portuguese America written by Pedro Paulo A. Funari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-11 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume contributes to disrupt the old grand narrative of cultural contact and colonialism in Spanish and Portuguese America in a wide and complete sense. This edited volume aims at exploring contact archaeology in the modern era. Archaeology has been exploring the interaction of peoples and cultures from early times, but only in the last few decades have cultural contact and material world been recognized as crucial elements to understanding colonialism and the emergence of modernity. Modern colonialism studies pose questions in need of broader answers. This volume explores these answers in Spanish and Portuguese America, comprising present-day Latin America and formerly Spanish territories now part of the United States. The volume addresses studies of the particular features of Spanish-Portuguese colonialism, as well as the specificities of Iberian colonization, including hybridism, religious novelties, medieval and modern social features, all mixed in a variety of ways unique and so different from other areas, particularly the Anglo-Saxon colonial thrust. Cultural contact studies offer a particularly in-depth picture of the uniqueness of Latin America in terms of its cultural mixture. This volume particularly highlights local histories, revealing novelty, diversity, and creativity in the conformation of the new colonial realities, as well as presenting Latin America as a multicultural arena, with astonishing heterogeneity in thoughts, experiences, practices, and, material worlds.

This book was released on with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
