Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reformation of the Subject is a study of the cultural contradictions that gave birth to the English Protestant epic. In lucid and theoretically sophisticated language, Linda Gregerson examines the fraught ideological, political and gender conflicts that are woven into the texture of The Faerie Queene and Paradise Lost. She reminds us that Reformation iconoclasts viewed verbal images with the same aversion as visual images, because they too were capable of waylaying the human imagination. Through a series of detailed readings, Gregerson examines the different strategies adopted by Spenser and Milton as they sought to distinguish their poems from idols yet preserve the shaping power that iconoclasts have long attributed to icons. Tracing the transformation of the epic poem into an instrument for the reformation of the political subject, Gregerson thus provides an illuminating contribution to our understanding of the ways in which subjectivities are historically produced.

Book excerpt: David was a secret sissy baby, visiting dominants and spending a lot money on nappies, baby clothes, and more while keeping it hidden and away from his wife. Until she found out. Rather than divorcing him as some would do, she investigated what sissy babies were and quickly understood that any promise he made to stop doing it was next to worthless. So she embraced his babyness in a dominant way, a way to her own personal benefit. She took his choices away. All of them. It was nappies fulltime. It was baby clothes fulltime at home and sex... was over. He could make love to his nappies but... not to her. And then came Jake into their lives and David's life as a husband was over, as was his life as a man or even as an adult. He was a sissy babygirl fulltime and he was... a cuckold.

Book excerpt: Though cuckolding is a common and hot fantasy for a lot of men into femdom – – or humiliation (and/or, I should say!) – actually transitioning from “fantasy” to “reality” is something most people struggle with. And if you’re part of that large group, I understand. It wasn’t always easy for me to convince MY S.O’s at the time to participate in this wonderful form of play — and some flat out denied at the time.It took me a long, long time to understand what really “works” in terms of BOTH partners being REALLY (emphasis!) open to the fantasy and play, and fully embracing their respective roles in it. Remember, cuckolding takes things one step further. Until now you’ve likely limited your play, no matter how base or humiliating to your Lady and yourself – – or perhaps other ladies on occasion, but if you’re a guy, you’ve likely never brought other men into the picture although you’ve wanted to many a times! And if you’re a dominant lady, you’ve probably often wondered just why exactly you can’t bring other men in on command to satisfy you – – but have yet struggled with the “I’m in a relationship” conundrum, and then never gone ahead with the fantasy. But our base desires and fantasies never go away, my friend. We are who we are a deep subconscious level, and the subconscious will KEEP pushing your base desires to the surface until they’re met. Have you ever noticed that the things you think about the most are the things that HAPPEN in your life? The thoughts that you put the most emotion into – – be they positive or negative – – are what makes events manifest in your life – – and this is a truism that cannot be escaped, whether we’re talking vanilla life or BDSM. The subconscious is key to who we are, and it is key to get the subconscious to accept what we do on a sexual level as well as in real life to avoid any sort of emotional backlash from our actual physical actions – – and my experience in this regard combined with my extensive experience with femdom and related areas in general makes me the best person to bring you these tips in an easy to understand, down to earth, yet brutally frank manner that characterizes all my writings. And THIS is where most cuckold relationships end up failing as deep down inside, people struggle to accept the fantasy for what it is – – and therefore attempts to translate it into reality end in failed relationships, misery for both the partners, and way worse. And many, many years ago, yours truly was no exception to the rule either. I’ve had plenty of homosexual fantasies – – and encounters along those lines as well which initially left me feeling “powerless” and “used” – – but upon probing these feelings, I realized that it was actually a part of me I was trying to repress all along for fear of “shame” from the outside world.Starting with the first time I sucked cock in a motel, to the two or three times I sucked dick after that – – and the many times after THAT – – I’m no stranger to the myriad of emotions accompanying the actual experience.I’m NOT a stranger to the sheer rush I got from submitting to another man – especially with a lady witnessing it all – – a lady that I was dating a while ago, to be frank! I’m not a stranger to the “guilt trips” my self experienced as well post my first few encounters – – clearly a case of me not being comfortable with revealing who I was at my deepest levels, and I offer tips to remedy this sort of thing in this manual. And given I’ve worked past all this, this manual is an attempt – – an honest attempt to bring cuckolding out in the open – – along with providing workable TIPS for BOTH partners to make the relationship last at a deep and satisfying level for the long term. Once you go cuckold, you truly never go back and you’ll understand what I mean when you start implementing the tips in this manual and watch your satisfaction with your sex life SOAR to levels hitherto unimaginable. Book excerpt: “A probing biography of the enfant terrible of 1960s and 1970s film-making . . . exhaustive and endlessly intriguing.” —Booklist Written by the film critic and historian David Weddle, this fascinating account does critical justice to an important body of cinema as it spins the tale of David Samuel Peckinpah’s dramatic, overcharged life and the turbulent times through which he moved. Sam Peckinpah was born into a clan of lumberjacks, cattle ranchers, and frontier lawyers. After a hitch with the Marines, he made his way to Hollywood, where he worked on a string of low-budget features. In 1955 he began writing scripts for Gunsmoke; in less than a year he was one of the hottest writers in television, with two classic series, The Rifleman and The Westerner, to his credit. From there he went on to direct a phenomenal series of features, including Ride the High Country, Straw Dogs, The Getaway, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and The Wild Bunch. Peckinpah was both a hopeless romantic and a grim nihilist, a filmmaker who defined his era as much as he was shaped by it. Rising to prominence in the social and political upheaval of the late sixties and early seventies, Peckinpah and his generation of directors—Stanley Kubrick, Arthur Penn, Robert Altman—broke with convention and turned the traditional genres of Western, science fiction, war, and detective movies inside out. No other era in Hollywood has matched it for sheer energy, audacity, and originality; no one cut a wider path through that time than Sam Peckinpah. “Groundbreaking.” —Michael Sragow, The Atlantic

Book excerpt: For more of Michael Kent's works, please visit www.michaelkentwriterartist.com. THE BIG JIGGETY, a picaresque, romantic, humorous, philosophical, sociological, (mostly autobiographical) novel, relates the travels and travails of Albert Nostran. An 18-year old American born and raised in the country outside 25 miles east of Paris, his quest is to find America, a woman, and himself. Lugging his guitar, Don Pedro, fleeing his cantankerous father, well-meaning mother and a brother he wants to turn into a fellow musician, he braves disease, fatigue, cold and angst to land in Big Sky University in Missoula, Montana, to sink his teeth into the frozen American west. Many aspects of US/Montana life intrigue the protagonist, yet Nostran retains a European sense of history and critical mind; arguably a Tocqueville of the late 1970s, he never misses an opportunity to comment on the local societal oddities and contradictions. "Perhaps you were more French than you thought," Damian his childhood friend tells the homesick hero in chapter one. Before they launch off in an exploration of a bleak, wintery, nocturnal Paris, during which Nostran loses his innocence in the arms of a prostitute. After whom our hero believes he has contracted something nasty, yet another little inconvenience he must face when flying back to Chicago via London. And matters do not improve in the endless yet at times magical bus ride between Salt-Lake-City and Butte, and he comes close to freezing trying to hitch-hike along the wide open spaces between Butte and Missoula. A few pills later, the sex quest resumes. Undaunted, Nostran in his diaspora flirts with one woman and then another with precious little of the supposed Gallic related savoir faire. Life at the university does harbor the excitement of weekends and dormitory life, with its freshman friendships and naïveté as well the tedium and occasional enlightenment of classes. And extra curricular activities, such as teaching dorm-mates how to strum a guitar. Against this background vivid characters are etched: Threats, the homophobic narcissistic football player; Rotch, another jock, who after having learned guitar from Albert begins to ridicule his former mentor. Up in Polson, Mt., we encounter Montcarlson and his wife, the curious couple who originally recommended the university. In Dubois, Wyoming, we meet Lancelot Wolf, owner of the Salamander Ranch, and Jim, the bisexual bartender, who reveals unexpected secrets about women the eager Nostran very quickly applies to Tweets, the stocky femme fatale in the blue car he more than befriends on yet another glacial return to Missoula. Bags repacked, the last U.S. trek takes him and two others back east to Chicago and New York--one American city whose intensity captivates him. If the USA experience at times mystified the adolescent, returning to France in the summer proves anticlimactic. At first. What the old country appears to lack in razzle-dazzle, it gradually makes up in terms of simplicity and deep-rooted friendships. Besides, after a stint with translations Nostran cannot sit still for long. Driving from his boyhood home in Seine-et-Marne (a little east of Paris), first up to Amsterdam with three rambunctious of old high school mates, then down to the Spanish border, via the Loire valley, with the equally lust-ridden Lecoq-Hasien, Nostran once again rediscovers the virtues of Europe and home. At the very last minute when all sexual hope has been abandoned, a young lady on the Saint-Jean-de-Luz boardwalk asks him for a light. She is not a prostitute and agrees to meet him the next day...

Book excerpt: In this book, the authors examine the works of Fernand Crommelynck (1886-1970), whose international reputation was established in 1922, when his most important and most popular play, The Magnanimous Cuckold, was presented in Moscow. Torn between the extremes of laughter and sorrow, frequently violent and visionary, Crommelynck's work is typically Flemish (though written in French), not least in its preoccupation with sin. Pain is always present in his plays, the pain felt by characters living in a world where happiness is destroyed by irrationalism, self-deception, and obsession. Crommelynck's plays humorously show us how human behavior can be dominated by extreme expressions of emotion or desire. The mixture of buffoonery and tragedy characteristic of his theater extends also to his prose style, which presents the most outrageous or gross situations in a language of beautifully sensuous imagery.

Book excerpt: NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY San Francisco Chronicle • Newsweek/The Daily Beast • The Seattle Times • The Economist • Kansas City Star • BookPage On February 14, 1989, Valentine’s Day, Salman Rushdie was telephoned by a BBC journalist and told that he had been “sentenced to death” by the Ayatollah Khomeini. For the first time he heard the word fatwa. His crime? To have written a novel called The Satanic Verses, which was accused of being “against Islam, the Prophet and the Quran.” So begins the extraordinary story of how a writer was forced underground, moving from house to house, with the constant presence of an armed police protection team. He was asked to choose an alias that the police could call him by. He thought of writers he loved and combinations of their names; then it came to him: Conrad and Chekhov—Joseph Anton. How do a writer and his family live with the threat of murder for more than nine years? How does he go on working? How does he fall in and out of love? How does despair shape his thoughts and actions, how and why does he stumble, how does he learn to fight back? In this remarkable memoir Rushdie tells that story for the first time; the story of one of the crucial battles, in our time, for freedom of speech. He talks about the sometimes grim, sometimes comic realities of living with armed policemen, and of the close bonds he formed with his protectors; of his struggle for support and understanding from governments, intelligence chiefs, publishers, journalists, and fellow writers; and of how he regained his freedom. It is a book of exceptional frankness and honesty, compelling, provocative, moving, and of vital importance. Because what happened to Salman Rushdie was the first act of a drama that is still unfolding somewhere in the world every day. Praise for Joseph Anton “A harrowing, deeply felt and revealing document: an autobiographical mirror of the big, philosophical preoccupations that have animated Mr. Rushdie’s work throughout his career.”—Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times “A splendid book, the finest . . . memoir to cross my desk in many a year.”—Jonathan Yardley, The Washington Post “Thoughtful and astute . . . an important book.”—USA Today “Compelling, affecting . . . demonstrates Mr. Rushdie’s ability as a stylist and storytelle. . . . [He] reacted with great bravery and even heroism.”—The Wall Street Journal “Gripping, moving and entertaining . . . nothing like it has ever been written.”—The Independent (UK) “A thriller, an epic, a political essay, a love story, an ode to liberty.”—Le Point (France) “Action-packed . . . in a literary class by itself . . . Like Isherwood, Rushdie’s eye is a camera lens —firmly placed in one perspective and never out of focus.”—Los Angeles Review of Books “Unflinchingly honest . . . an engrossing, exciting, revealing and often shocking book.”—de Volkskrant (The Netherlands) “One of the best memoirs you may ever read.”—DNA (India) “Extraordinary . . . Joseph Anton beautifully modulates between . . . moments of accidental hilarity, and the higher purpose Rushdie saw in opposing—at all costs—any curtailment on a writer’s freedom.”—The Boston Globe

Book excerpt: In the same way that Stallone and Schwarzenegger played film heroes who came to embody the values of Ronald Reagans aggressive conservative agenda in the 1980s, the 21st-century film narratives of Batman, Spider-Man and Superman reflect the policies of the Bush Doctrine after 9/11. This book offers a groundbreaking study of the relationship that exists between post-9/11 American politics and the contemporary superhero movie phenomenon. No other Hollywood subgenre was as consistently popular during the George W. Bush presidency, as films such as Spider-Man, Superman Returns, Iron Man, and The Dark Knight embodied the key contradictions that inform the cultural and political life of the post-9/11 years. By combining in-depth analyses of numerous major superhero films from this era with astute readings of contemporary critical theory, this book offers accessible and academically potent insight into the complex interplay between politics, ideology, and entertainment in the 21st century. ,
