His hilarious chronicle of the year he spent working for Carnival Cruise Lines takes readers down into the areas where the crew works and lives, leaving readers gasping with laughter as they’re assaulted nonstop with events that range from the absurd to the utterly bizarre. Stewards fighting over food. Cutlery allowances and other nonsensical rules. What the crew calls those onboard (no, it’s not “passengers”). And of course, the sex. An abundance of ready, willing, and able bodies eager for action on a vessel replete with nooks and crannies leads to love in some mighty strange, and seemingly impossible, places. Breezy, entertaining, and informative, Cruise Confidential is essential reading for those planning a cruise or for anyone who just needs a good laugh.

Book excerpt: Minimize expenses - maximize fun! Straight from the crew to you, this "guide to guerrilla cruising" will save individualists who are willing to explore cruise destinations off the beaten path tons of money! Learn how not to get ripped off and how to bargain like a pro. Find out how you can get internet, great lunch deals, tours, and drinks for cheap or free! Learn how crew members move around in the ports without spending a fortune and start doing the same!22 unusual ways to save money, which you will probably not find on the web or in a guide made for "ordinary" cruise ship passengers. This book is a real eye-opener and will change the way you travel forever!Hello! I am Chris Kruse, and I wrote "Cruise Like the Crew" to help you save big on your cruise holiday and experience a vacation truly off the beaten path. I work on ships and I hate to admit it, but I am as stingy as they come! We crew members are on the ship to make money, not to spend it. We try to save all we can, as we live on the ship for months at a time. Crew members know where the free wifi hotspots are. We know where you can shop for a reasonable price and how to avoid tourist traps. We know how to have a good time without spending a fortune. This book is not for everyone. If you are an average cruise ship passenger or a family, you shouldn't be reading this guide! You should allow your cruise line to take advantage of you, to sell you overpriced tours, photo packages, and internet. You should gladly allow your cruise line to rip you off and treat you like everybody else who booked the same trip. This is how they make their money after all. Most cruise companies promise you the journey of a lifetime, an unforgettable experience. But if you follow the masses and do what everybody else is doing, you will all end up with the same, usually forgettable and random vacation. Most cruise guests are okay with that and gladly pay twice the price for a company-sponsored shore excursion just to make sure the ship will wait for them if the coach returns late. Most passengers don ́t mind to visit the same beach everybody else is going to and lie in the sand like sardines. Most people are perfectly happy to spend $6 for a beer at the beach bar, when they could buy a sixpack at the supermarket for the same price! If you are one of those guests, please just google "how to save money on a cruise," and you will easily find all the usual suggestions on how to book your holiday cheap and save on drink packages on the ship. But please, don't follow my advice. It will not make you happy. This guide is for smart individuals and couples who want to experience the unusual. People who travel to explore a new culture, who want to interact with the locals, try new things, and are not afraid to bargain. I won ́t recommend certain things some of the crew members do to save money like drinking Listerine instead of booze to get wasted (yes, I am not making this up)! Or to hitchhike instead of taking an Uber (if you are voluntarily taking a meter taxi outside Indonesia or Thailand however, this guide is a waste of your time). Also, some advice you will find here will be against certain cruise lines' house rules, so please, check the fine print beforehand, if you bring back vodka to the ship in a Sprite bottle. However, if you are an adventurous traveler who is not afraid making your own decision and being in charge, this unconventional guide for clever cruisers will save you a fortune and introduce you to a brand new world of truly enriching travel options!Straight from the crew to you - this is your secret guide to minimize expenses and to maximize fun.About the author: Chris Kruse is a professional cruise ship entertainer who has performed for audiences all over the world. During his over 15 years at sea, he has visited more than 130 countries and all seven continents. Chris has released several albums and appeared on numerous national and international television shows.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cruise Operations Management provides a comprehensive and contextualised overview of hospitality services for the cruise industry. As well as providing a background to the cruise industry, it also looks deeper into the management issues providing a practical guide for both students and professionals alike. A user-friendly and practical guide it discusses issues such as: · The history and image of cruising · How to design a cruise and itinerary planning · Roles and responsibilities on a cruise ship · Customer service systems and passenger profiles · Managing food and drink operations onboard · Health, safety and security Cruise Operations Management presents a range of contextualised facts illustrated by a number of case studies that encourage the reader to examine the often complex circumstances that surround problems or events associated to cruise operations. The case studies are contemporary and are constructed from first hand research with a number of international cruise companies providing a real world insight into this industry. Each case study is followed by questions that are intended to illuminate issues and stimulate discussion. The structure of the book is designed so the reader can either build knowledge cumulatively for an in-depth knowledge of managerial practices and procedures onboard a cruise ship, or they can ‘dip in’ and make use of specific material and case studies for use within a more generic hospitality or tourism learning context.
