Book Synopsis The Feminist Architecture of Postmodern Anti-Tales by : Kendra Reynolds
Download or read book The Feminist Architecture of Postmodern Anti-Tales written by Kendra Reynolds and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph aims to counter the assumption that the anti-tale is a ‘subversive twin’ or dark side of the fairy tale coin, instead it argues that the anti-tale is a genre rich in complexity and radical potential that fundamentally challenges the damaging ideologies and socializing influence of fairy tales. The Feminist Architecture of Postmodern Anti-Tales: Space, Time and Bodies highlights how anti-tales take up timely debates about revising old structures, opening our minds up to a broader spectrum of experience or ways of viewing the world and its inhabitants. They show us alternative architectures for the future by deconstructing established spatio-temporal laws and structures, as well as limited ideas surrounding the body, and ultimately liberate us from the shackles of a single-minded and simplistic masculine reality currently upheld by dominant social forces and patriarchal fairy tales themselves. It is only when these masculine fairy tales and social architectures are deconstructed that new, more inclusive feminine realities and futures can be brought into being.

In a ruined and collapsing world, perhaps her method is the best one. Rod, though, has a dreary life, working at an unrewarding job. Without friends, but encumbered by relations, there is something uneasy hanging over him. Is it the wardrobe? How unlike Klova, young, beautiful and living on benign handouts, in a sort of Science Fantasy existence of sprints and liquid-silver... Until she meets the challenging Coal. And then there is the other one... or are there two? They also begin to assert their influence - but where do they fit? Past Historical, Presents Parallel and Everyday - Future Imperfect. Here, at the outskirts of this City they all call London, what the Hell is going on?
Download or read book Hot Pink written by Adam Levin and published by McSweeney's. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adam Levin’s debut novel The Instructions was one of the most buzzed-about books of 2010, a sprawling universe of “death-defying sentences, manic wit, exciting provocations and simple human warmth” (Rolling Stone). Now, in the stories of Hot Pink, Levin delivers ten smaller worlds, shaken snow-globes of overweight romantics, legless prodigies, quixotic dollmakers, Chicagoland thugs, dirty old men, protective fathers, balloon-laden dumptrucks, and walls that ooze gels. Told with lust and affection, karate and tenderness, slapstickery, ferocity, and heart, Hot Pink is the work of a major talent in his sharpest form.

Download or read book Darling Endangered written by Carol Guess and published by Brooklyn Arts Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fiction. LGBT Studies. The voice narrating Carol Guess's newest book is that of a playfully effusive but meticulous cataloguer of our darker inquiries and oddities, a suburban former dancer with the inner life and vision of an epic librettist. DARLING ENDANGERED is nothing short of exceptional, a rare breed of hybrid that works between the "flash" of short fiction and the swift bite of the lyric. From the dizzying, battered nostalgia of youth remembered to the experiential trappings of maturity, Guess's collection maps the journey of a singular, sensitive existence through an ever-illuminating world of wayward hawks and track star meth addicts, avalanches and hot dog carts, zombie buildings, the works of Balanchine and Pachelbel, and the promises of love and love's disorders. You will not read another book quite like it.
Book Synopsis The IPINIONS Journal by : Anthony Livingston Hall
Download or read book The IPINIONS Journal written by Anthony Livingston Hall and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-05 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The iPINIONS Journal Commentaries Vol. II In this volume of political and social commentaries, Anthony Livingston Hall synthesizes the most critical developments of 2006 with remarkable clarity and inimitable wit. But, unlike more celebrated columnists who trade in partisan political talking points, Hall seems beholden to no ideology and is definitely an equal-opportunity critic. Moreover, you would be hard-pressed to find another columnist anywhere who writes as persuasively about the international menace of Iran's nuclear program as he does about the interpersonal dynamics of an NBA Championship series or what the latest ooops from Britney Spears portends for western civilization. Hall's refreshing worldview may stem from the unique fusion of his Caribbean heritage and American education. But it is clearly the informed passion that permeates all of his commentaries that makes this book so riveting!
