This book was released on 1997-10-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first five years of operation of the two multi-purpose experiments ZEUS and H1 at the HERA electron--proton storage ring facility in Hamburg, Germany have opened a new era in the study of diffractive vector-meson production in high-energy photon--proton interactions. This book provides readers who have a general knowledge of the concepts and experimental techniques of elementary particle physics with the information necessary to assess the status of the new investigations prior to the end of 1996. The measurements are placed in the rich historical context of earlier studies of photo- and leptoproduction of vector mesons.
Book Synopsis Associated Production of W + Charm in 13 TeV Proton-Proton Collisions Measured with CMS and Determination of the Strange Quark Content of the Proton by : Svenja Karen Pflitsch
Download or read book Associated Production of W + Charm in 13 TeV Proton-Proton Collisions Measured with CMS and Determination of the Strange Quark Content of the Proton written by Svenja Karen Pflitsch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The associated production of a W boson and a single charm quark (W+c) is the only process in proton-proton collisions that directly probes the strange quark content of the proton. In this thesis, W+charm production is measured in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at 13 TeV, as recorded by the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment. The analysis focuses on the identification of W bosons in their leptonic decay to a muon and a neutrino and charm quarks are tagged via the full reconstruction of D*-Mesons. The measured cross sections of W+c production are used, in combination with other relevant CMS results and the most precise HERA DIS data, in a QCD analysis to determine the strange quark content of the proton. The resulting strange quark distribution and suppression, with respect to the other light sea quarks, are in good agreement with those obtained in neutrino scattering experiments and extend their kinematic reach.

Book excerpt: Subnuclear Phenomena, Part B is the second part of the compilation of the proceedings of the seventh Course of the International School of Physics, held in July 1969 in Erice, Italy. The said program is focused on the analyticity and algebraic properties in particle physics. This book includes topics such as leptonic and semileptonic interactions; nonleptonic decays; baryon, nucleon, and meson resonances; inelastic collision of hadrons; and the quark model. Also covered are specialized topics such as the large hydrogen bubble chamber; physics of Ke4 decays; and the dispersion theory. Just like Part A, this part is recommended for physicists, especially those interested in the further study of particle physics.
Book Synopsis Electron Scattering From Complex Nuclei V36A by : Herbert Uberall
Download or read book Electron Scattering From Complex Nuclei V36A written by Herbert Uberall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron Scattering from Complex Nuclei, Part A covers the historical phases of experimental development in elastic and inelastic electron scattering. This five-chapter text presents the logical development of the underlying theory of electron scattering. After briefly discussing the history of electron scattering from nuclei, this book goes on describing the theory of elastic scattering from a point nucleus, both with Born approximation and the accurate solution of the Dirac equation, as well as the corresponding experiments. The following chapter considers the analysis of nuclear charge distributions experiments using Born cross section and phase-shift methods. A chapter is devoted to the complete elastic and inelastic Born theory. This chapter also deals with the derivation of a theorem on the general form of the electron-nucleus scattering cross section, with an emphasis on the influence of the neglected transverse interaction on the cross section. The last chapter presents the status of elastic scattering along with some topics in muonic atoms that also determine nuclear charge densities. This book will be of great benefit to physicists, researchers, and graduate students who are interested in nuclear structure problems.

Book Synopsis Measurement of the D0 Meson Production in Pb–Pb and p–Pb Collisions by : Andrea Festanti
Download or read book Measurement of the D0 Meson Production in Pb–Pb and p–Pb Collisions written by Andrea Festanti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-04 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the first measurement of charmed D0 meson production relative to the reaction plane in Pb–Pb collisions at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon collision of √sNN = 2.76 TeV. It also showcases the measurement of the D0 production in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurement of the D0 azimuthal anisotropy with respect to the reaction plane indicates that low- momentum charm quarks participate in the collective expansion of the high-density, strongly interacting medium formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, despite their large mass. This behavior can be explained by charm hadronization via recombination with light quarks from the medium and collisional energy loss. The measurement of the D0 production in p–Pb collisions is crucial to separate the effect induced by cold nuclear matter from the final- state effects induced by the hot medium formed in Pb–Pb collisions. The D0 production in p–Pb collisions is consistent with the binary collision scaling of the production in pp collisions, demonstrating that the modification of the momentum distribution observed in Pb–Pb collisions with respect to pp is predominantly induced by final-state effects such as the charm energy loss.
Book Synopsis Meson Physics at COSY-11 and WASA-at-COSY by : Andrzej Kupsc
Download or read book Meson Physics at COSY-11 and WASA-at-COSY written by Andrzej Kupsc and published by American Inst. of Physics. This book was released on 2007-11-19 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This enchanting volume comprises the results of recent investigations aimed at understanding the mechanism leading to the creation and decay of strongly interacting particles. The emphasis here is on studies of the production, decay, interaction and structure of mesons eta, eta-prime and kaons.
