Pesquisas mostram que existe uma grande procura de atendimento para crianças com queixa escolar em serviços públicos vinculados a área de saúde mental, assim como há uma elevada taxa de abandono das famílias nos atendimentos. Diferentes fatores estão associados ao término em diferentes momentos do atendimento. As famílias desistentes (que terminam antes de iniciar o tratamento) apresentam características diferentes das que abandonam (que terminam durante o tratamento). O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar se há diferenças entre as famílias que seguem o atendimento infantil até a alta e aquelas que terminam em algum momento após a primeira entrevista. Foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo com dados de 258 crianças, com idade entre seis e onze anos, colhidos na primeira consulta no Ambulatório de Psicologia Infantil do HCFMRP USP. Foram utilizados dados sócio-demográficos e dados dos seguintes instrumentos: Raven, Escala Comportamental Infantil A2 de Rutter (ECI), Inventário de Recursos do Ambiente Familiar (RAF) e a Escala de Eventos Adversos (EEA) recentes. Para a análise, foram feitos dois conjuntos de comparações: a) entre o Grupo desistente (n = 41) e Grupo não desistente (n = 217); b) no Grupo não desistente, comparação entre o Grupo abandono (n = 107) e o Grupo alta clínica (n = 110). Os dados foram analisados em três blocos: a) variáveis sócio-demográficas; b) variáveis clinicas da criança; c) variáveis ambientais, considerando-se como índice de significância p 0,05. Os resultados mostraram que o Grupo Desistente, comparado ao Grupo Não Desistente, apresentou menor tempo de escolaridade, menos dificuldades cognitivas, menos problemas de comportamento, menor média de atividades programadas e, em relação aos eventos adversos experienc.
