Book excerpt: What distinguishes Mark Charlton is an absolute honesty allied to reflective wisdom and a fresh, alert eye. He entertains, yes, and makes us laugh (or at the very least smile ruefully). But beyond that, he reminds us of what it is to be both fully and compassionately human whilst remaining rooted in the world of nature.

Book Synopsis The Heart of Africa by : Georg August Schweinfurth
Download or read book The Heart of Africa written by Georg August Schweinfurth and published by . This book was released on 1878 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schweinfurth was a German botanist and ethnologist, sent in 1868 by the Humboldt-Stiftung of Berlin on "an important scientific mission to the interior of East Africa." He travelled from Khartoum up the White Nile to Bahr-el-Ghazal and then through the regions inhabited by the Diur, Dinka, Bongo and Niam-Niam peoples; "crossing the Congo-Nile watershed he entered the country of the Mangbetu ... and discovered the river Uele ... which by its westward flow he knew was independent of the Nile." This discovery was "his greatest geographical achievement." He also did much to elucidate the hydrography of the Bahr-el-Ghazal system. "Of greater importance were the very considerable additions he made to the knowledge of the inhabitants and of the flora and fauna of Central Africa. He described in detail the cannibalistic practices of the Mangbetu, and his discovery of the pygmy Akka settled conclusively the question as to the existence of dwarf races in tropical Africa."--Wikipedia.

Download or read book Crowtower written by David Rae and published by Brain Lag. This book was released on 2021-06-11 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All things must die. If death will come regardless, then we do not need to fear it or to run from it. We can live instead. The priests of Vatu are locked in an endless cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Their constant reincarnations are defined by service to the dark spirit, hatred for each other, and ruling the world of eternal night in which they live, broken only by a single day each year when Vatu releases the Sun. They have suffered and enjoyed this existence for millennia, for an eternity... until now. In the Tower of the Sun at the centre of the world, the reborn Utas returns to fulfill his destiny to become High Priest. He has scarcely completed his education, however, when a shocking secret of his resurrection emerges. Now questioning everything he knows, he takes a path never before followed in his long existence. Yet darkness and pain still shadow everything he does, and all his attempts at freedom seem only to lead back to Vatu. Can Utas ever escape hatred and death, or will darkness forever rule his heart as it does the shadowed land?
Download or read book The Glass Window written by Mario Morales and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-08-31 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The awareness of child abuse in the 50’s was not, as common place as it is today. Racism and religion were more common and at the forefront. Lives were different, people were different and not as educated or desensitized as today’s society. People didn’t talk about personal matters and that was it. Secrets were kept in the heart, festering, painful and help was fleeting unless you were rich. This story is an awesome psychological rollercoaster of fear at it’s worst from the side of the survivor. A love so great that he feared telling his loved ones of the pains he endured for fear of hurting them so he carried it to a point of self-destruction. “The Glass Window” is truly a look into the reflection of the soul and the spiritual awakening of a tormented image that was just a tap away from a cracked world gone mad. From an innocent child surviving a trauma and racial bigotry to an accused killer. This book is not meant to aggrandize the drug life, but to show a way for those in similar situations to find a way out. Look into the window of the soul and you will see the dark of day and the light of darkness turned into a miracle of wonder beyond belief. How do I know? Because it happened to me.
